Oooooooh, cool.

That was before I joined GC :(

It sounds like a safe bet then that Nu Beta Omicron (Never Be Ordinary) is no more. :( I wonder how/when it happened...?

ZetaXiDelta - are you at UCSC? What's the opinion then of A-Psi and KZ on your campus? And why form ZXiD? Are they planning on affiliating? How did KKG get on campus - ground-up expansion or was there an interest group who was successful in affiliating? Sorry, I got a lot of questions!

Sorry, I meant before I joined GC....Zeta Xi Delta is located in Rhode Island (we have no NPC's and our college won't give us permission to try to affiliate with an NPC)

Ohhhhh.... Haha, ok. Well good for you then! Are there other groups on your campus?

And does anyone know the answers to my questions?

DGZstar 01-02-2008 10:00 PM

Congrats everyone on their new classes! We start rush for our Epsilon class this month!

There is 1 other local that is recognized by the college and 1 that is working on becoming recognized. I would still like to affiliate with an NPC but my college says they "do not have the resources available" to help us.

:D yay!! that's great, do you have any girls interested?
We used to try to have every sister bring at least one girl, interested or not really (friends, etc), we often got PNM's through girls that had been at the house and had told their friends about us. Just a thought :)

GOOD LUCK! :)

We have a handful that are interested. We're not expecting a large group because it is Spring semester. :) A few of the girls who are coming are friends of active sisters, so I agree that it a great way to recruit people!

I'm so nervous about this semester's recruitment. I'm advising my local, Mu Phi Gamma, and we have a very apathetic seeming group of girls this semester...we only got one girl last semester...and we're at a total of 9 active sisters. We used to average about 20! Any advice?

Hayley2007 01-17-2008 04:18 PM

First you need to resolve the attitude of the girls in your sorority before you start recruiting outside girls. If nothing is done and you take a new pledge class, that attitude will rub off on them, or they will get a bad impression after they start pledging and decide to quit and that will further hurt your sorority. See what's causing the problems with the current members and if you have to hold a rush later in the semester to fix what's going on, so be it. I'd rather fix the problem, have everyone on the same level to take a new pledge class, and have the pledge class enjoy themselves with the current members than not fix the problem, take a pledge class and have everyone drop and maybe active members even quit. That's my advice.

PhoenixAzul 01-17-2008 08:17 PM

Otterbein's Fraternities and Sororities are doing recruitment as we speak. Tomorrow will be Novelty Parties. Last weekend was Open House. I'm pulling for my sisters! And I'm super proud of them for reclaiming highest GPA last term :).

<--- Well Chuffed Tau Delta Alumna.

My recently founded local, Alpha Mu Sigma, has just been recognized as a club on our campus! We do not have a recognized greek life at my school so I'm hoping this is the first step in making that possible. In less than a month, we will have our first recruitment. I'm so excited!

Congratulations!!! I know how gratifying it is to be a founder of a local sorority and how much MORE gratifying it is once you are a college recognized organization :) Are you looking to affiliate with a national?

A quick update...as some of you know, my campus has repeatedly denied requests to bring an NPC to campus. I contacted the assistant activities director the other day and she responded that they do not have the resources available to bring an NPC to campus. I emailed her yesterday inquiring about the resources that we would need that they would not be able to offer and this is what she replied with....

" Hi _______,
I've been doing a bit more research about the prospect of having an NPC group on campus and could possibly accommodate the requirements, depending on what the national office needs RIC to do. Do you have a specific NPC group in mind?

Thanks,
__________"

So, it seems as though we are moving in the right direction now and that all of my persistence may pay off!!! :)

Good luck, I was involved in getting my chapter of APO re-chartered and assisted in the chartering of another, that that one did not work out. It can be a really exciting and fun process. have fun and keep us updated.

hi girls! I'm the VP of Omicron Pi in Hoboken, NJ. We're a little sorority with only about 22 active members (Stevens is very small) Just found the postboard and wanted to leave a little msg. Our formal rush started yesterday. We'll have our new pledge class by next week! We're anticipating maybe 5 or 6 new pledges (since most girls go dphie or phi sig) but who knows this semester since there seemed to be more freshman girls interested in sorority life than in previous years!

Hayley2007 01-23-2008 04:53 PM

Good luck with rush girls, let us know how things go!

Hey,
I'm near the city in NY and am from a local as well at SUNY Cortland. I definitely understand being local amongst national organizations, we also had phi sig and dphie at my school, plus two others. Good luck during recruitment, let us know how it goes, and if you need anything, i'm here (well all of GC is :)) to help!

ZetaXiDelta 01-23-2008 11:51 PM

Three girls showed up tonight. One was unable to attend, so all in all we will have 4 girls go through rush week. We decided to make this rush week shorter due to the small number of girls - three of the girls are friends of at least one person in the sorority and the fourth is new.

We are still working on going national! When I have more info I will pass it along :)

OmegaPDPrez 01-30-2008 12:10 PM

Are there any other groups out there doing rush this week? Our rush doenst start until next week..

ZetaXiDelta 02-03-2008 12:15 PM

We gave bids to 3 great girls. :D This brings us to 9 girls. However, I am going to take Alumna status early so Zeta will have 8 actives!

The 4th girl decided she would not have the time to be involved this semester.

PhoenixAzul 02-03-2008 07:41 PM

Girls at Otterbein are signing their preference cards today (noon their time, 5 pm my time), so hopefully I might get some idea of how many we got tomorrow morning when I read the alumnae minutes from the chapter, and we'll know names and such tomorrow. This is my first recruitment as an alumna, and it makes me really sad that I can't be there or at the various rituals to meet the new Delta Kittens :(. But I will send them lots of Scottish lovin' and letters.

tobeAMAzing 02-04-2008 08:03 PM

I'm a sister of Sigma Gamma Phi in Oneonta, and we gave bids out to 9 girls this semester, and I was one of the four new members last semester.

SigPhiSunshine 02-07-2008 05:26 AM

Hey everyone!

We had 4 rush events last month and had preference last week with 3 girls signing (Bringing us up to 19. we have 2 more that want to sign, they just couldn't make it to the ritual so they have to wait a little while longer.) We are having more events this month and doing a final preference on the 17th.

We are starting New Member Education Period the first week of march (when we get back from spring break) and hopefully will be done by the second week of April (Just before greek week)

Sometimes I wish we could go without taking a new class in the winter. Its so hard with our spring break and greek week taking two weeks out.

On another note, most of my girls have gotten really excited and dedicated to everything this semester because we are trying to get everything together to get us an official house next semester. Out of the 9 sororities, we are the only ones without a house. we almost had one this year, but the girls who were renting the house had some friends of theirs that were in a fraternity move in because the guys needed a place to live pronto, and that kind of ended that idea. We still held the house round of structured recruitment there, the only difference was that we didn't have letters up and occasionally a guy would sneak in through the kitchen and go upstairs (thankfully no one noticed but us!).

OmegaPDPrez 02-11-2008 11:05 AM

good to hear from all the locals. Have a fun spring semester. and keep us posted !

PhoenixAzul 02-17-2008 06:48 PM

word from the homefront is that TD has 6 lovely new kittehs (i'm slightly obsessed with www.icanhascheezburger.com) :)

Kendall! 02-27-2008 04:09 AM

If you think 22 actives is small then mannnnn.

We've got 13 actives right now after crossing 4 new brothers (the biggest pledge class to cross last semester thanks to some stupid new rules we're all getting used to). This semester we've got 5 pledges wearing wonderful green ties which is pretty good.

Last 4 years we've been hovering around 13-19 actives which is fine by me. Smaller numbers means more intimacy and better connections.

p.s. I'm Iota Kappa Phi in Newark, NJ at NJIT

KENDALL!!!! you are the best. Congrats to you guys!

The stupid new rules he's referring to (i think) is NJIT's Deferred Rush policy. I think it took awhile for everyone to get used to it.

I was told that my sisterhood welcomed 6 ladies to our Alpha Eta class.

Good luck this semester everyone!

OmegaPDPrez 03-05-2008 12:31 PM

beta chapter

I just visited the campus that will be home to my sorority's beta chapter! We will chater them at the end of their crossing new members.

AlethiaSi 03-05-2008 12:57 PM

I *think* we have 6 girls new membering this semester... News from the girls is few and far between... I think their having some serious problems but don't want to tell any of us older alumni girls... I hope they can handle it....

OmegaPDPrez 03-14-2008 08:35 AM

sad but maybe good news

a member of my sorority was approached yesterday buy the university student affairs/ greek advisor. Apparently too many people are inquiring about our group and i think he's wants us to stop wearing our letters on campus. i know he cant force us to, but now our chapter members are weary about putting on letters. I had a short talk with him myself about the situation, even though i stressed to him about our status as an independent organization, he continued on, because he felt too many students at the university were already members. So, as a result, we are definitely pushing to join a council. we will do our best to become more recoginized as a regional organization and hopefully this will satisfy university rules.

LunaP 03-17-2008 03:04 PM

Oh no OmegaPD I'm sorry to hear that =( I hope things work out and your girls don't have to duck and weave while wearing their letters. Good luck!

<3 Luna

LunaP 03-17-2008 03:11 PM

Oh, btw we just initiated 10 wonderful girls into the Beta pledge class! One girl is missing when this pic was taken =)
