OK, now THAT is impressive.

The Oklahoma State chapter of Tri-Delt had their 3 Delta's on the front of the house, and they had a backlight to them that looked BADASS at night. I know it's not a pin-light, but hela cool non theless.

The Gamma Phi Beta house at the University of North Dakota has a cool crescent light on top of a tower - and the letters in lights over the door. I'd post a picture, but am not sure how to do it.

That's the old house on Woodlawn, isn't it? Do they have a new one on the new house?

I can remember going by the Sigma Chi house as a freshman and getting a giggle over how much the badge light looked liked those "Jesus Saves" lights on country churches.

In answer to other questions: The Zeta light was brass and enamel, with lights all around the shield like pearls. I believe the crown and greek letters in the center were backlit. I don't think there was any wood in it. We had to crawl out on the portico from time to time to hang banners, and I banged my shins on it more than once.

I'm sure ours came from a sign company or lighting company. I have no idea where it ended up.

Lisa, did Sigma Kappa have it centered on the portico, or on the side of the house?

While there is no picture of the AGD house at my Alma Mater, they have a Pin that is lit on thier house.

The only two on campus are they and SX.

I think it is really nice to have the Pins/Badges placed on the House and letters to not be to garish and huge to let those people know who each of us are!:)

We had some Brothers some years back on the old house decide to paint it a "kind of yellow" , and two foot letters with our colors. It looked terrible!:o

Thanks, banditone! Yep, I think both the house and the lights are really distinctive.

Honestly, its been so long, I can't really remember. And all my pictures are stashed out in boxes in my garage. LOL. I want to say it was above the portico on the house itself, but I really can't remember. I've got to keep looking for pictures. LOL ;)

At WGa, the 6 NPC groups live in a sorority dorm. They have 3 large picture windows in their lobby. Each group have lights showing the Greek letters in lights. Haven't paid much attention to how they were done since the Alpha Gams' lights are behind a large entertainment center and curtains.

wow - these are beautiful! i so wish my school had had houses.. i love looking at pictures of other chapter's houses.

texas*princess 04-13-2007 07:06 PM

did anyone ever figure out where these were made?

SWTXBelle 04-13-2007 07:32 PM

I think someone could make some money if they could make them!

Tom Earp 04-14-2007 03:14 PM

Many times there are local companies who can make them. It then matters as to cost!

I would see one of LXA hanging from our new Chapter house!

If you have a tech. school there, contact one of the Profs and see if they could do this as a class project and get paid. It would be cheaper and give the department some money for supplies and extra for them!

Wood out doors not good, so some kind of metal!

I am still impressed with the SX at My Alama Mater, stainless that is inclosed and back lit for the Badge!

ChildoftheHorn 04-14-2007 04:14 PM

We don't really have these at my school...but they look great.
I could make one with random parts in the engineering labs and the shop, maybe an interesting project for later....hmmmmm
You could just make the bulbs screw-in and then they could easily be replaced and you could use different colors for gems.

Funny you would mention this point!

I have a set of plans from IHQ!

There were certain size of bulbs that could only be bought from IHQ! Odd size of course.

But there are enough smart Brothers and Sisters who know different!:D

We do not have one up yet, but none of these days?

Why not be the first?

So what the heck, just do it and be the envy of all!:)

The Gem idea is neat!!!!!!!

I'm 99.9% sure that it was centered above the portico and not on the side. The side of the house wasn't very visable from the road if I remember correctly.

LOL, he didn't mean the actual side of the house (as opposed to the front of the house.) He was asking it was ON the house (as opposed to on the portico.)
