Anyway, Donny Reynolds has done his tricks and found out that they didn't work. Now he's remorseful. Too bad, so sad. . .

Target has Jiffy Pop for $1. Last time I bought 10 of those things.

How about this? Mr. Nikki and I were watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit this past weekend? How about that movie is almost 20 years old? Hw about we sat there for 10 minutes just in awe that THAT much time had passed already?

Ahhh, the good old days of Saturday morning cartoons. Up at 5:30 am, cartoons went off at noon, outside to play until 7 pm. And why do I still search for Looney Tunes ANYTIME they come on? Good classic cartoons, even if they do edit out the now-offensive bits.

*sigh*
guess I really am getting old.

HC I'm mad that my cable folkes don't have Boomerang where the Looney Tunes toons are?
HC Cartoon Network doesn't have many old cartoons anymore except for Tom and Jerry?
(HC thinking about Uncle Pecos? "OHHHHHHHH, froggy went a'courtin'. . .")

This is sad that that we could watch them and not go out and try to kill ourselves or anyone else but you have to take the stuff out for this group. What's next taking out the cartoons that has Bugs Bunny in drag?

We aren't getting old....we just remember better.:D

I wanna see a Chicken Hawk cartoon...they don't show his too often

http://re3.mm-a8.yimg.com/image/4057993954

"I'ma Chicken Hawk, are ya gonna come quietly or am i gonna haveta mess you up???

UrbanizdSkillz 04-11-2007 01:25 PM

lol Henry Hawk...good times! I don't know WHAT they're showing on Saturdays now. For me, I used to watch cartoons all morning and then Soul Train at noon. You had the X-Men, Spiderman, Bugs & The Crew (LOL), and some other ones I can't remember but they were GOOD. You can still catch these cartoons but you REALLY have to be on the lookout for them. I'm nowhere near thirty but I realllllly can relate to both forwards posted in this thread.

Plus, when you played outside, someone grown was actually outside WITH you. Nowadays, you have a bunch of children running around unsupervised. And we used to have imaginative games like making "dinner" from mud, grass, and pine cones! And you soooo could not come in and out the house without hearing "You better stay in or out! You lettin' out my air!" I still remember all the jump rope songs and hopscotch. DO KIDS EVEN KNOW WHAT HOPSCOTCH IS TODAY?! ANNNND we had better candy. Can you said lemonheads and Boston Baked Beans? I can't even FIND Boston Baked Beans today! *sigh*

unspokenone25 04-11-2007 02:56 PM

^^
Don't forget about Johnny Apple Seeds (i.e., Appleheads)!

jojapeach 04-11-2007 03:18 PM

Or Alexander the Grape! I remember finishing the candy and turning the box into a musical instrument, like I was getting the choir in tune. LOL

THANK YOU!!!!!! :D

I asked someone about them the other day and I got a blank stare. I think they are called Grapeheads now. WTH? What was wrong with Alexander the Grape?? Sigh...can't have nuttin nowadays

unspokenone25 04-11-2007 04:19 PM

Yes, they are called Grapeheads. I loved me some Alexander the Grape. I forgot what the cherry ones were called but it had a stereotypical picture of a Chinaman on the box. Those are now called...you guessed it, Cherryheads!

RBL 04-11-2007 04:22 PM

I'm 30 and remember most of that.... times were good...

They were called Charlie Chans.....I used to love those. Nothing like palying jacks on a Saturday afternoon and eating penny candy and penny cookies. Remeber the butter cookies shaped like a flower with the hole in the middle? I used to wear them on my pinkies!

delph998 04-17-2007 04:11 PM

How Times Have Changed

I remember getting paddlings in grade school. Now we have to worry about getting shot in school. Very sad, but very true.

jojapeach 04-17-2007 04:57 PM

^^^ Getting shot meant getting into a water gun fight when it started getting warm. It's a shame that these kids really have to worry about guns in their elementary classrooms.

They were the coolest little accessory when you were having a snack! LOL I still remember Murray Bros. cookies because we ate them so much. Butter were my fave, but chocolate chip were cool, too.

I wonder how many kids play "Red Light, Green Light" or "Mother, May I?" We could play those games for hours....until the mother would decide to keep us moving by baby steps forward only. Talk about messing up a game... :p

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 04-17-2007 08:29 PM

ok how about making "kool-aid" candy...i.e. sneaking your mommy's (or in my case granma's) suger in a sandwich bag, adding a pack or maybe two of kool-aid, shaking it up and eating it straight!!! ...teeth and lips turned colors, hyper as hell all day....I use to sell bags of this in the 5th grade..except David Green got his free cuz I thought he was cute!!! :p :D

pinkies up 04-17-2007 10:21 PM

Anybody remember the plastic charm bracelets? How about wearing the two pairs of socks that matched whatever colored shirt we were wearing? Ladies, how about rockin' the side pony tail!

Nabisco butter cookies....sigh..:( they were the best cookies eva!!! Along with Brown Edge Wafer Cookies. How can they let me grow up on those and stop making them!!!! They were the best with Black Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream (Bryers if you will). Now if they take away my Barnum Animal Cookies (in the circus box) we will have a major problem!!!

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 04-19-2007 03:04 PM

nikki1920 04-19-2007 04:19 PM

I had about 5 Swatches. *sigh* And the Swatch guards...

OOOH, no girl, you DIDNT go there about the Keds!!! Lol...
I did that too!! lol

Obsession8 04-20-2007 12:30 AM

Remembering when...

Swatches....wow, that takes me back. I rocked 2 on one arm, Swatch guards and all. I had a Swatch twin phone, too. :D

I still rock Keds (have a couple pair in p/g). But, L.A. Gear was my isht back in the day...with double laces and all. :p

And, does anyone remember those Hypercolor shirts? I had 2 (in pink, of course)...still have 'em, too (packed away...somewhere).

Ah, those were the days! :D

1908Revelations 04-20-2007 12:34 AM

I don't know if it has been mentioned but what about slap braclets!!

delph998 04-20-2007 01:58 AM

Oh my goodness! Swatch watches, slap bracelets, Guess jeans, Keds?! These were definitely the good days.

When I think of back in the day, I also think about the music we listened to:

Boys II Mens' first album had come out
Mili Vanilli-Blame It On the Rain
New Kids on the Block-Sexx U Up!
New Edition/BBD
After 7-In the Heat of the Moment
Toni, Tony, Tone-Southern California

Sophist08edLady 04-20-2007 11:19 AM

New Edition....don't nobody say nuth'in bad 'bout NE! I am the biggest NE fan! I had all the posters from the Right On, Fresh and Black Beat magazines on my walls.

And Milli Vanilli :( Rember when you found out that they didn't really sing that song

But before all of them...there was Michael Jackson...remember when he fine...you know before the hair incident...remeber...Pepsi Cola burned him up, now he's drinking 7 Up :p

I was and still am a fan, too, soror! My fondest memories are of the Heartbreak album (the Johnny Gill "version" of NE). I love *EVERY* song on that album, mostly "If It Isn't Love", "Crucial", "Boys to Men" (which inspired the namesake group {also a fan of them :D}), and (of course) "Can You Stand the Rain".

I feel some old school iPod downloads coming on... :)

SummerChild 04-21-2007 01:00 AM

Soror, people don't know about that redlight greenlight! :)

jojapeach 04-23-2007 11:50 AM

^^^ Dang, we didn't do that in my neighborhood, but if all that mentioning of snacks in a rhyne ain't ol skool, I don't know what is.

My sister-in-law is redecorating the kitchen with a retro theme. Why does she have an authentic rotary phone? Why did my nieces have to ask, "How do you use it"? They really tripped out when I showed them how long it would take to dial the number.

SummerChild 04-23-2007 12:31 PM

Hollywood? Old Mary Matt?? Ok Soror - what part of Chicago are you from? :) You MUST BE from the Chi!
SC

Let me test one more thing -
Soror, do you remember "chinese jumprope" and "irish" (in addition to the now-famous double dutch)?
What about the Doctor Pepper hand game - "I drink Dr Pepper don't you know. (snap, swing hands - lol). It's the 'riginal taste that I love so. The flavor you'll treasure everywhere you go. I'm a pepper, you're a pepper, would you like to be a pepper too? The more you drink, the more you sho-ut, IIIIIIIIII'M A PEPPER! Would you like to be a pepper too? Be a pepper drink Dr. pepper, yeah, yeah, be a pepper drink Dr. pepper, whoo whoo, be a pepper whoo!"

Soror I am from the "ever-famous" Camden, NJ. However, I do remember "chinese jump rope" and would make my own out of rubber bands. I also remember "irish"....did you play DIFS?

I do remember Dr. Pepper, but do you remember....have a Coke and a smile?
Swing, swing, swing?
