FSUZeta 01-29-2007 10:46 PM

i imagine that they are exhausted.

i agree! its gorgeous! and yes, they did seem kinda nervous, esp the second girl. i think Texas answered hers out of the blue - she probably had an answer but winged it!

tld221 01-29-2007 10:57 PM

yay for OK! she's pretty.

AGDLynn 01-29-2007 10:58 PM

Predictable.

Oh well, all of them were definitely more talented than me!;)

PhiMuLady150 01-29-2007 10:59 PM

I'm sorry but Georgia or Texas should of won. I am disappointed

I'm slightly disappointed as well. I though Oklahoma's answer was the weakest of the three. She is gorgeous though!

i wouldve pushed for georgia or texas as well. but once GA was out, i knew OK was gonna take it.

and i just turned the channel 10 minutes before it was announced.

PhiMuLady150 01-29-2007 11:05 PM

Her talent was also weak. While she does have a strong voice, she was overly trained and that showed. Maybe she was nervous but I was rooting for GA or TX

Unregistered- 01-29-2007 11:10 PM

I still think Miss Georgia is absolutely beautiful.

MSKKG 01-29-2007 11:11 PM

I didn't get to watch the pageant tonight due to "24" and "Heroes," so I was glad to have my PC to check.

OTW, I love the way you listed the Top 10--how clever!

NutBrnHair 01-29-2007 11:13 PM

Well, I won $20 from a bet with friends. I picked the top three in the order in which they finished.

(Wish I'd been in Vegas!)

Out of the top 5, I was pulling for Miss Mississippi -- I thought her piano skills were amazing. When I saw that Miss Alabama had won Miss Congeniality I said, "Oh well -- it's over for her -- she's too nice to win!"

Technically the pageant hasn't even aired yet here and I figured that some people were busy watching other stuff.

It starts in 45 minutes here but I'm still at work because I've been checking the results all afternoon!

Tippiechick 01-30-2007 12:04 AM

I thought Texas should have won over OK.

I LOVED Georgia's answer. She gave the answer that all of the educators I know would have given.

OK's answer made me throw up in my mouth a little. It was such a classic pageant answer. "I'll make things better for women by wearing my crown and looking strong to them. That will help them when they are still trying to make ends meet. They'll look at me and think how strong I am."

LPIDelta 01-30-2007 12:07 AM

Even my husband said that OKs answer was weak. Her dress was nice though. Texas did great considering that was only her THIRD pageant! Georgia was gorgeous!

I did not do that well with my top choices--only 2 of 10. :(

AlexMack 01-30-2007 12:13 AM

Yeah, I thought OK was gonna bomb with the last answer she gave. It wasn't even an answer...I was rooting for Georgia and lost my bet... :(

NutBrnHair 01-30-2007 12:18 AM

I think the decision has really already been made before the final question. I think the judges rank them in the order -- based on their overall opinion. Also, the talent is 30% of the final score.

DreamfulSpirit 01-30-2007 12:51 AM

I was totally pulling for Texas or Georgia. They both gave great answers, and I'm a little partial to Georgia because I am an education major myself. I thought that Oklahoma didn't really answer the question. It was how would she change minimum wage and how men typically get paid more than women...and I'm sorry but wearing your crown isn't going to do anything!

PhiMuLady150 01-30-2007 01:20 AM

My mom and I talked about it and we think OK won because she was "safe'. Georgia's answer in the taped interview that they showed from earlier in the week was pretty bold, I agree with her but it was "bold" for Miss America. OK was a safe bet because she didn't "rock the boat" wit her answers. I really wish Goergia or Texas would of won because I think they both reflect what a woman in the position of Miss America should be (bold, strong, conscious about the global arena). I found Oklahoma (even though she was pretty) to not provide solid, good answers. But maybe that's who the org. wants to represent. I am disappointed but overall I was very impressed with the candidates as a whole this year.

PeppyGPhiB 01-30-2007 02:17 AM

Yay for Miss Washington making the top 10! Wash. never makes the top-whatever in these pageants. I must say I was a little disappointed that the top 5 were all southern, just because the south seems to dominate pageants ;) Well, ok, maybe OK isn't really southern, but close :)

I think what got Miss OK the win on the question was that her answer was short and sweet. you notice how she said a couple of sentences, then stopped? I was really pulling for Georgia (loved the tap dancing and her dress was gorgeous) but her answer actually didn't make much sense...she failed to connect point A and point B. Miss Texas was great, but she rambled on in her answer.

I really like how you get to know the contestants a little better with this pageant than Miss USA. I actually care about who wins when i know a little bit about them and hear them talk. I liked how they showed bits of the personal interview and wish they would do two questions instead of just one, just so you get to hear them talk a little more.

KDAngel 01-30-2007 02:40 AM

I'm watching it on CMT Thursday or Friday, but from pagaent school, I really liked TX even though she was new to the scene. I just loved her. I wasn't a fan on GA though, so I'm glad she didn't win. I can't remember OK whatsoever...

Was it Michael Feinstein who said that the Talent competition separates the Miss America Program from the rest?

Kudos to him (and I heard the cheers of the crowd because they were thinking what I was thinking probably)....he was right!

Mario did good. I have to admit he did good. Good broadcast I saw in a while, although I was a bit disappointed that they limited the Talent portion to only the top 5. I would have loved for you guys to see what I saw of Pili at the State Pageant.

ASUADPi 01-30-2007 09:12 AM

After Alabama didn't make the final three I was rooting for Texas. I honestly fastforwarded through thier final question, I just wanted to see who won.

I wasn't a fan of Georgia, so I'm glad she didn't win. I don't know I just liked Texas better.

It's kind of sad if they were too busy wanting to play it safe. There are times when chosing the "safe" person isn't the person who necessarily deserves to "win". IMPO.

But at least Texas was able to get a 25,000 scholarship because that was her biggest goal, getting a scholarship to finish school. That should definately help her out.

Kevin 01-30-2007 11:19 AM

She attends my undergrad school.

2 Oklahomans in a row.

Between me and you, I was rooting for her above all others. She looked gorgeous in her swimsuit and evening gown (her evening gown was the only one I would have worn myself) and I was sorely disappointed that she didn't make the top five.
It was all southern states (OK is southern to me) that went through and annoyed me, but then pageants are a sport down there so I shouldn't be surprised.

FAB*SpiceySpice 01-30-2007 01:43 PM

Man I wish I had watched the show. I went to high school with Miss Nebraska, very sweet girl but back then she was not in to pageants and such so I was pretty shocked when I saw she was Miss Nebraska. Weird.

They'll most likely re-broadcast it. I remember last year, they showed the pageant a few days later on VH1

Xylochick216 01-30-2007 05:53 PM

I may be in the minority, but I HATED Oklahoma. I was upset she was top 10. Her answers were weak, her talent was by far the worst of the top 5 (I thought the best were Mississippi and Alabama, neither of which progressed)... she was flat and boring. I was disappointed.

Does anyone else think she looks just like Blair from Facts of Life?

Oh no. I definitely agree with you about Oklahoma. Compared to the other Top 4, she was drab and forgettable. I would have been happy with ANY of the 4 becoming Miss America.

I enjoyed the telecast, but Miss Oklahoma -- what a disappointment.

I agree. Although I felt Miss Texas' talent was the best. Alabama didn't have the vocal strength for the song she selected (she may of been nervous) and Mississippi's played with "heavy hands" on the piano (once again maybe nervousness). Oklahoma sounded overlytrained and her answers we weak but maybe that's what they want Miss America to be.

FSUZeta 01-31-2007 06:40 PM

i agree-oklahoma was just "there". i was a little disappointed in all the talent. they were all decent, at best. after it was over, i said."i missed heroes for this?"

cutiepatootie 02-01-2007 12:59 AM

Miss Oklahoma was definitely not my choice.... i was shocked she went to top 5. Miss Texas i liked. She looked like a cross between Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks. Miss California should of placed higher. I think she looked awesome in swimsuit ( she won that) and evening gown...she knew which colors worked for her , but i was shocked when they chose Oklahoma she was bland!

I really liked Miss America 2006, Jennifer Berry ( Oklahoma). I watch Miss America yearly it is ritual to me and there are only a few favorites i have like over the years.

ragtimerose 02-01-2007 07:10 AM

I was in Vegas watching the whole thing. Congratulations to Lauren Nelson and all the 52 contestants on a great show and a great year!

Of course, I was pulling for Jamie (Miss Louisiana), but she even admitted at visitation that talent was her weakest area of competition.

OTW: Wish I would have seen Pili at Miss Hawaii. Her Tahitian dance was great. She really stood out for me this year and I'm disappointed that she didn't progress beyond top 10.

Somebody in Oklahoma must be doing something right...two in a row!

That's too bad. I actually liked the reality show they had this year (aside from the fact that they showed it 20 times a day) and thought that this year's broadcast was one of the better ones in recent years.

Who else is there? Is there actually a major network that'll want to pick them up?

They should go to PAX. [/sarcasm] PAX will take anybody. Don't they televise Mrs. America?

jitterbug13 03-29-2007 10:12 PM

And the really puzzling thing is that NBC just renew Miss USA/Miss Universe pagents (this is the last year for Miss Teen USA). And those pagents have been tanking for years, epecially since the Donald has taken over. Like someone said, they haven't been the same since Bob Barker stop hosting. :p

Even though they have gone through a lot of changes the last few years, I still think Miss America pagent is classy and that there is still an audience for it.

Actually, Mrs. America and Mrs. World were shown on We. We and/or Oxygen could be a good fit for Miss America. Shame CMT dropped us.

BetteDavisEyes 03-30-2007 12:04 PM

I'm sure it will work out for the best. I enjoy Miss America far more than the Miss USA. It's more classy & the contestants do NOT come out wearing trashy dresses.
