My First Day at Convention
My plane arrives an hour late in Indianapolis. It is 6 pm before I get to the hotel, and the welcome dinner starts at 6, so I am in a hurry. I check in, rush through the shower. Then I change into a cute dress...makeup, hair, jewelry, excruciatingly high heels.....and head off to the 3rd floor. I was hoping I would be there in time to eat. You know how these dinners sometimes go. Everyone finds a seat...introductions and welcome, bread, salad....lots of conversation...it can be a good 45 minutes before they actually serve food. I look in every banquet room. I was too late for registration, so I don't have my packet telling me the room numbers, and I keep checking banquet rooms.....every single one..... Finally I go to the front desk. They look it up. Sure enough, the banquet starts at 6, and is on the 3rd floor.... TOMORROW NIGHT. Yes folks, you got it. I arrived a day early. I am all dressed up, starving, and have no idea what I want to do. I ask the nice people at the front desk, and they recommend the restaurant on the top floor (of course)- Look at my photos when you get a chance. It is one of those revolving restaurants. Service is excellent. Food is fantastic. I took a lot of pictures, and enjoyed my meal while reading Cryptonomicon.
I had great conversation with the guy sitting on my right on the airplane. Turns out that he and his wife live in Indy, and his wife was an Alpha Xi at IU!! So we talk for the next hour about sorority, his children and our jobs. He is going to tell his wife that Convention is this week and encourage her to come to some of the events. He gave me his card so I can email the details to him.
So, in spite of arriving so early, I had a great day!!
