Definitely an awesome twist ending too. Did Olivia DeHavilland ever play a "bad guy" in any other movie? She was not originally cast in that role (Joan Crawford walked off the set during the original filming), but given her snow white screen persona she was the perfect one to turn out to be the unexpected evil character.

Oh, yeah! LOVE that movie!! The first time I watched it, I was in 7th grade and had to for my creative arts class. We were studying the history of movie makeup and special effects... gotta love that head!

There's a rumor that he had to be shocked twice in the electric chair because he had stuck so many needles into his body for pleasure.

:(

Sorry I'm kind of obsessed with reading about serial killing. Haha.

I read a book about him. He was a total monster. There was an picture of an Xray taken of his abdomen (genitals included) that showed all the needles he put into his body.

Total sick bastard who I still hope he is rotting in hell.

I absolutely cannot stand movies that totally fcuk up your mind -- The Shining, The Ring, The Grudge, Children of the Corn...etc.

I'm the exact same way! I had nightmares for weeks after watching The Grudge. :P But blood & gore don't bother me at all.

The only reason I watched it was because my best friend had gotten it out and I'd have felt guilty if I didn't watch at least part of it with him, esspecially since he was sick at the time as well.

I had nightmares for a week because of that movie. :p

This is the only movie ever that I have turned off. I'm a horror film junkie so that's saying something.

Poltergeist 1,2,3 get my votes as the best/scariest films I've ever seen. They're my absolute favourites and scared the shit out of me. I have a really overactive imagination though. After I saw The Ring...oh jeez. I've seen too many horror movies because occasionally I get really paranoid about being in my parent's house by mself. We have neighbours nearby, but we're set far back enough in the woods that no one would ever know.
The Shining would have been scary except that I saw it for the first time with a bunch of people who kept quoting the Simpsons parody. It loses its impact when the blood flows out of the elevator and someone quips 'that's odd, the blood usually gets off on the second floor.'

Glitter650 10-09-2006 01:13 PM

Copycat, it scared me because it could happen.

Adelphean 10-09-2006 02:28 PM

Biggest mind fukc: Hills Have Eyes/House of 1000 Corpses
Funniest: Remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Scared Me: Jurassic Park :)

cecarter82 10-09-2006 02:30 PM

It was the "The Shining" until I saw "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre":(

tinydancer 10-09-2006 02:59 PM

It's gotta be "Salem's Lot." I was playing cards with some friends the night it was on tv. I made everyone move so I had my back to the tv. To this day, every time it's on tv, some smart azz will call me and say "Wanna play cards tonight?"

That's kinda the reaction most sane people have. It is seriously the most twisted movie EVER.

BadSquirrelBeta 10-09-2006 06:16 PM

Mr. BSB and I were talking about this.

He remembered a story when he was in the 6th or 7th grade and a friend of his had a movie theatre party for his birthday. It was one of the first "boy/girl" events as pre-teens. Anyway, this kid throwing the party was extra cool because his dad owned the theatre. So, down they sit in their pre-teen glory to a special birthday screening of THE SHINING. Apparently this kid's dad hadn't seen it yet.

OMG, Mr. BSB said there were girls screaming everywhere and running out of the theatre when the hallway was filled with blood, etc. etc.

Needless to say, the movie party WASN'T a hit and none of the boys "scored".

I saw this one on my first date with my ex-husband. All night, I kept looking at this guy thinking "I really hope he's not psycho"

Yeah and you felt safe until you went to his apartment and met his poodle, "Precious", learned he had a butterfly collection, liked to sew and he always gave you nice hand lotion. :)

OMG, I can't believe I let that one slip! I am a dirty little girl... I guess that's what absence of husband does to my brain. ;) :D It was still a great scary movie (to stay on topic).

I just saw this and it is quite disturbing. My daughter likes scary movies too but I wouldn't let her watch this one. I loved every minute of it though, lol.

macallan25 10-30-2006 04:57 PM

I don't think gory/bloody movies are very scary.

I always though the Exorcist was pretty freaky though. Movies like that are pretty uncomfortable to watch.

adpiucf 10-30-2006 06:29 PM

I cannot watch scary movies. I can barely get through Scream and Scary Movie-- and those are parodies of horror movies!!!

RU OX Alum 10-30-2006 10:23 PM

the ring freaked me out when I saw it in the theatre

whiteandblack 10-30-2006 10:42 PM

even though they're cheesy I always have bad dreams after watching zombie movies. I also find particularly eerie the "what if" movies like the Omen.

KSUViolet06 10-31-2006 04:13 PM

I'm very easily scared by movies, so I have a pretty long list, and some of them you all probably don't think were even that scary:

*Saw I
*Final Destination
*The Ring
*Hostel
*When a Stranger Calls (I was a nanny for a bit)
*Any of the Friday the 13th movies (still scary)

Good call

Add glitter to the list of disturbing movies I've seen.

LOL at Glitter-- but I think I'd be too scared to claim that I had actually seen it. :D just joshin'

KATwoman 11-05-2006 12:40 PM

"The Shining" was pretty creepy but one that really got me was this German movie called "Das Experiment" somewhat based on the Stanford prison experiment. It was really intense.

AlexMack 11-05-2006 12:48 PM

I just tried watching the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre and it was just gross. Up there with Hostel. Not scary, but gross. I did see Pulse and I'm sorry to say that freaked me out. That's because I'm a big baby with an overactive imagination.

Poltergeist still tops my list as my favourite horror film of all time.

The Shining would have been scary if I hadn't watched it with a bunch of Simpsons fans who kept quoting the Shinning episode.

Nightmare on Elm Street the first time I saw it. But then it became my favorite.

BetteDavisEyes 11-05-2006 10:19 PM

The Exorcist. When I was 5, my older sisters (teens) thought it would be a good idea to let me watch this movie with them. It gave me nightmares for weeks. I still refuse to watch it since then.

VAgirl18 11-06-2006 12:17 AM

borat. lemme tell you, there's some graphic stuff in that movie.

SigKapSweetie 11-08-2006 03:33 PM

Candyman.

When I was in high school, I watched it at home, alone, in the dark, and ended up having to call a friend to come keep me company until my parents got home. That movie scared the bejesus out of me!

(Also, the original version of The People Under The Stairs is really scary, too!)

Wow! Is it that good? Do you think Blockbuster will have it? I'll have to write this one down.

AGDLynn 11-08-2006 11:42 PM

The Birds and Premature Burial.

valkyrie 11-09-2006 12:16 AM

It is truely horrifying. It isn't a slasher, or even a thriller. It is simply horror.

Oh god what have I done, I'm downloading Last House on the Left as a torrent. Haha, I'm a dumbass. Last night I uh didn't download Final Destination 3 because I do not download movies and music illegally. Not me.

Peaches-n-Cream 11-09-2006 01:33 PM

I think that the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was probably the scariest movie I have ever seen. Actually, I couldn't finish watching it because I was so scared.

I mentioned this before in another thread. "Salem's Lot" scared the crap out of me.

I saw "Silence of the Lambs" in a movie theater before I knew what it was about. I was so scared.

Most Alfred Hitchcock movies scare me also.

I second that. For my 16th birthday party, I had four friends sleep over and we rented that movie. We weren't particularly scared...then That Scene came on and we all screamed in unison. (and my dog started barking her head off at the noise!) That's the only scene in a movie that's made me scream like that.

I just finished watching this, and I'm scared to eat because I might throw up. It's that sick. Not not jump-out-your-seat fear, but sickening. Oh my gosh I can't watch that again.
