im sorry to hear that you lost ur favorites...but there is definitly still hope. you loved daisy the first day and the second u still liked them. so id say go to all three prefs..pref parties can definitly change ur opinion. good luck and i hope you get what youve been waiting for.

Lil_ChiO_Lady 10-09-2006 01:13 PM

Yes, well i noticed that wasn't what i wanted to post, and looking back it was late when i wrote that.hehe Thinking about it more going to all three is a good idea. You don't loose anything from going, but gain more information and a closure to what you really want..I do still feel strongly you should attend DAISY, that is something worth checking out again. You are never forced to choose a house if you attend pref, it is totally up to you. Also, everything happens for a reason and you will realize that reason in time.
P.S. Ok,enough late night posts for me.I confuse myself:p

ADPi Conniebama 10-09-2006 01:47 PM

OK HERE IS MY ADVISE

Go to whatever pref parties to which you are invited. BUT to that end I am no longer "anti-sip." (MY OPINION>>>>>>) ONLY WRITE DOWN THE sororities in which you are willing to accept a bid.

So, if you are invited back to DAISY and Carnation then you enjoy Carnations pref and could see your self accepting a bid then rank accordingly. . .

if on the other hand you attend Daisy and Carnation's pref and you still feel the same way . . . 1st - tell Daisy how much you like them and could see yourself there . . . .2nd DO not write down carnation if you would be devisated and would not "run."

AGAIN THE ABOVE IS JUST MY OPINION - I AM SURE whatever you do will be right for you at this time.

HEY and don't forget you can still have fun even if every thing isn't quite going perfect. It is going the way it is suppose to go and it is up to you what you do with the cards you are dealt.

swtserenity 10-09-2006 05:59 PM

thank you everyone!! i really appreciate the advice, so now i'm off to get ready for pref night. i'll stay positive throughout tonight...

(I really do hope i get asked back from DAISY)

i'll update once i get home.

xowest 10-09-2006 06:05 PM

Great Attitude

I am so excited that you decided to go to pref. Preference night can really change your opinions about the houses. I remember I pref'd a girl who, on bid day, told me that she had us ranked fourth before prefs and only ended up attending our pref because she was dropped by one of her top three. After prefs, she ranked us first. From fourth to first. . . that is a huge change of opinion. Good luck. I hope that you fall in love with one of the houses you pref.

Ocalagirl 10-09-2006 06:09 PM

I second the above story...I was never sure about the houses I got invited back to until Prefs...Prefs cemented one choice that I knew I would never belong in that house and did not want to diminish their sisterhood, but totally changed my opinion on another chapter and would have definitely accepted a bid from them...things were meant to be and the timing was not right as well...as a religious person, I knew God did not want me to join at this time.. I don't know about you so I won't make any assumptions, but I do want to wish you the best of luck and hope everything goes in your favor!!! I can't wait to hear how your pref experience goes:)

swtserenity 10-10-2006 12:41 AM

:D

i'm so glad i went to pref tonight! thank you to those that advise me to do so! i'm so happy...

i was asked back from DAISY and CARNATION.

DAISY: their pref was breathtaking. the member that i was paired with remembered me so well and i like her so much. she's an awesome person!! the ceremony was very touching that it gave me goosebumps all over. one of the members talked about her experience in the chapter and how she gained so much, which made me see it in a whole different prepective. i always knew why i wanted to join a sorority, but tonight only finalized the thought. to me, its about the bond that each girl shares with one another and the memories that they make together as a chapter. i can totally see myself happy here and i do hope i recieve a bid from them tomorrow.

CARNATION: this may not be one of my top houses, but they have amazing women in this house. however, i still feel as though as it is not for me. the member that i was paired with was so excited that i returned that i felt bad for not having the same feelings. their ceremony was--well, it left me speechless. many of the members were crying while the stories left us in shock. they have a great sisterhood and tonight i saw it, but my decision still stands with DAISY.

i am so grateful to all those on GC; i hope one day i can give advice to another and help them as you helped me. without people like you, i probably would have not continued onto pref. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

if i do not get a bid from DAISY, at least i know what happened instead of the "what if..." i met many great girls through rush and i plan to keep in contact with each of them.

til tomorrow...

have a awesome night!!

twinkle555 10-10-2006 12:55 AM

Not true. No matter what your RC told you.

ETA: Many Panhels train their RCs to make the impression that if you Single Intentional Pref, that you will not get a bid, the computer will kick you out, etc...and it's simply not true. Also, many RCs are misinformed, so it might not have been intentional that she "made you" list both, she might not know any better herself.

It's a moot point now, because it's done, but for future reference....

adpiucf 10-10-2006 10:29 AM

Whether you get Daisy or Carnation, I know you'll enjoy Greek Life to the fullest!

Some "sisterly" advice: I know Daisy is number one, and I hope you get your first choice. But do keep in mind there's a possibility that you will get Carnation (#2). Be prepared. If you decline a bid, you can't rush until next school year. So if you get #2, at least go to Bid Day and stick it out for a little while. You may end up really enjoying yourself!

Whatever you decide, though, just be happy and have fun! Life's too short! :)

Not to hijack, but WHY oh WHY does this continue to be such a misconception!! Frustrating.

SigKapSweetie 10-10-2006 03:46 PM

Good luck! About 15 minutes left until bids are given out - I hope you become a proud new member of Daisy, but I also hope that if you get a bid to Carnation, you will give it a chance. Sending you lots of good luck vibes!!!

What schools are still doing recruitment out here? All the AZ schools are done. USC done. UCLA is done.
But then again I'm thinking "big schools" (ie. I know their name) and there's TONS of schools in Cali that I have no idea about. LOL.

Unregistered- 10-10-2006 04:29 PM

SwtSerenity, it's the positive attitude you have going through this recruitment that makes recruitment stories worth reading.

Good luck to you and Daisy, but it really does sound like you've achieved so much already. All the best to you!

swtserenity 10-10-2006 04:39 PM

hello!!! i'm done with classes for the day and i thought i stop by and chit chat.

my rho chi insisted that we must sign bids for both houses. actually, many/most rho chis that day echoed the same thought. there were many girls panicing about their decision to sign or not. they wanted to sign for their #1 pick; however, did not want to do so for their 2nd choice.

yes, i am at a school on the west coast!! and yes, it's CALIFORNIA!! ;)

only 3 more hours to go. that's a long time to sit here and wonder, so i'm off to do some laundry.

FSUZeta 10-10-2006 05:24 PM

excitedly waiting to hear your news, and keeping all things crossable crossed for good luck!!

Thats odd, its one thing to put your choices on your preference card but I've never heard of being told to sign bid cards for all. from what I understood you still have the option of declining the bid if its given to you. Signing bid cards before you know if you got the house you want seems a bit off. Maybe thats just how my school does it...anyone else know more about this?

ETA: Being a student at a cali school I know most are done but there are a few schools that still have recruitment later in the semester, mainly because they start later (end of sept). A friend of mine goes to UC Riverside and I believe they just went through recruitment.

MSKKG 10-10-2006 06:41 PM

Maybe she got her terminology wrong and meant pref card.

Lil_ChiO_Lady 10-10-2006 07:05 PM

I am so excited you had a great time at pref...and hope u get a bouqet ofDaisies!!

At my school (in Calif.), which had a new NPC system established in 1996, we were told that by filling out our bubble sheets after preference, we were agreeing to accept a bid from any chapter we listed. There was no signing of a bid card, or "accepting" or "declining" bids after the fact. They also told us that we *could* SIP, but if so, we should be OK with the possibility that we would not get a bid at all. They also told us that we would not be elligible for COB if we were extended a bid at all, even to our #2. It was still being conducted that way when I was a rho chi in '99.

Me, too!!

We had to sign our Preference Card, and were told that we had to accept a bid from any sorority we had put down, but when given the Bid Card itself, we also had to sign to accept it. Sounds like a lot of semantics to me, though!

Hope you're partying hardy, SwtSerenity!!
