They showed the trailer for this at Twilight last night and the movie looked funny. I haven't read the books though.

Well I don't see a problem with her not being english for this movie, but are they planning the sequels to follow?

Are they going to change everything up for Shopaholic Takes Manhattan and Shopaholic Ties the Knot, etc.

I have a feeling so much more will be changed with this change, but I hope it makes it good.

I hate when they try to mainstream books and then ruin the movie, but this could be good. We shall wait and see... I am excited about the movie though.

and if you like chick lit. I was hooked on Gossip Girl from the first book ( i've read the 2 newest ones without the original characters in it and i'm not sure how i feel about it) and I was also antsy about the show but now it's a must watch every monday night.

also, I just started reading the clique because my little sister (biological) got me hooked and it is a good series. definitely reminds me of middle school (granted it takes place in a ritzy upscale middle school in NY) it is really good. but the movie was horrible.

Seriously, but with half of the world hating the USA so much, I really do see how this could play out to be VERY anti-American. Of course, I haven't seen it, and maybe the director is a genius - but I doubt it.

I just learned today that Sophie Kinsella has also written under another name: "Madeleine Wickham".
So, more books of hers for me to read! (According to wikipedia, mother of all knowledge, Wickham is the "real" name and Sophie Kinsella is her "pen name": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie_Kinsella).

Amazon has some books up here; the artwork on some of them is similar to the Shopoholic Books of hers.

I don't think he is very attractive at all, in that photo. But then again, he was the "handsome prince" in Ella Enchanted, and he looked good there. We'll see........

OH! This is what I found on Wikipedia: "Re shoots took place in New York City on December 4th & 8th, 2008, to change the ending of the movie due to sensitive reasons, and to reflect the current financial situation." What are these "sensitive reasons"? Also, I don't want to see movies that "reflect the current financial situation"! I want escapist comedies! Think about the movies that came out during the Depression--a lot of upbeat musicals were made then because everyone needed to think about something else.

I wish they'd cast "no-name" actresses in film adaptations. I already have a pre-conceived picture in my mind of Becky from reading the books, and she looks nothing like Isla Fisher. Same thing with Scarlett Johanssen and "The Nanny Diaries", love the book and never saw the movie because I don't like her and definitely don't see her playing Nan.

I think a good example of this was casting Rachel McAdams in "The Notebook."

I wanna see Becky Bloomwood with her BRITISH accent, blowing money on her "must have" scarf and shoes.

I might have to skim the book again, but didn't Becky start off the book having a job---as a financial whatever in that newspaper? It seems as though from the previews she doesn't start off like that.

She worked for a financial no-name magazine then gave financial advice on that talk show and that became her full time job when she left the mag.

This reminded me of the first reference of sorority outside of my neighborhood. I think it was a Three Stooges film, and everyone in the boarding house pawned something for seed money. Two of the girls hocked their sorority pins, and then got them back later.

Has anyone seen the movie yet? I have! I must say that I really didn't mind that Becky wasn't British, it didn't affect anything much. The movie ended up being a mixture of Confessions of a Shopaholic AND Shopaholic takes Manhattan although I didn't see a lot from the second book (except for Suze's wedding). I also don't remember the whole Miami part in the book, but then it's been a while since I read it.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Joan Cusack and John Goodman as Becky's parents. They are totally what I envisioned Becky's parents to be, aside from them not being British. And also Derek Smeath.....totally great casting!! Overall, I was pretty pleased with the casting.

Ok, what I didn't like. In the book, Luke Brandon had his own company---Brandon Communications, but in the movie he didn't (well, until the very end). The whole "Shopaholics Anonymous" meetings I don't remember in the book, and all the subsequent drama that followed I don't remember (aside from her auctioning off her clothes, that I do remember). And I definitely don't remember anything about Alette.

I did NOT like the fact that they said it was based on both book, but I didn't see anything from Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. I mean, wasn't she working at Barney's? Or was that in Shopaholic ties the Knot? (I read them all consecutively so I get the information mixed up).


I took my younger cousins (14 and 13) to see it and they both loved it. The 13 year old took my books so that she could read them.


I also cringe when I watch a movie of a book i've already read, but I really enjoyed this movie. I knew parts were different, and other parts were left out, but I didn't mind it at all (which surprised the heck out of me).

I read the books years ago, and still LOVED the movie... which is a recent first for me. :)

Well, the film was shot in Feb-April last year, so whatever the "sensitivity" issue is, it had to be something majorly offensive.

I liked the movie better than the book-though they did change some things.

I liked the book MUCH better than the movie. I thought they made Becky's parents out to be trashy, when I always pictured her coming from more of an upper-middle class background. I didn't like the casting for Suze either, she was too eccentric and they also left out Suze's picture frame making business that helped Becky.

The Miami trip wasn't in the books at all. Luke and Becky pick out luggage for his girlfriend, bond over that, then she learns about the gf and is all upset.. then finds out Luke breaks up with her when they're at a 'business' dinner.

I wish I would've waited for the DVD.

Really? I always find this interesting--the way people interpret a book. I totally saw Becky's parents coming from a more lower-middle class background, and I thought they portrayed her parents perfectly in the movie.

I wish they would have put Tom (and his situation) and his parents in the movie.

I tend to like best whichever I've been exposed to first, the book or the movie. I guess I get these ideas of what the characters are, what they look like, etc. from the books and then I'm disappointed when it doesn't match up on screen. I liked Isla Fisher for Becky but that was about it.

I wonder if sequels will follow?

My DAD just called and recommended this movie to me :confused: (actually, he recommended "that movie they made about you"), so I guess I am going to have to go see it. I haven't yet because I was afraid the movie was going to ruin the book, as most movie adaptations do.

I mean besides having the same names for characters, and some of the same situations the movie & book are really different. If you are expecting to read a lot of the same things that were in the movie, then you'll be disappointed.

Oh I mean that you shouldn't give the book a try, you should--it's a great book. But the movie was a combination of 2 books, and just little bits & pieces of both.

I'm used to movies being different than the book, but I just feel that this movie was WAAAAAY different than the book.

I just read Sophie Kinsella's newest book "Twenties Girl" and really liked it. It's quite funny as it's a bit of a twist on her usual books -- it's a ghost story!!
