that's hillarious.

well, who would ever think a simple link at the end of a thread would cause so much controversy? I aggree with those that said some are taking this a little too seriously. It does seem like some aspire to be GC Ruler, but their is only room for one at the top. And if it's snobby, upperclass white boy John, then let him do his thing. Don't hate on him just because he's sees things differently. Without him, this forum wouldn't here for the no-life individuals it which is serves. Therefore, you should THANK john!

You have some odd ideas about making friends. Maybe you're not trying to, but you're certainly not helping yourself out here.

Needed it before services this afternoon!

As for Canes-this is the first I have heard of anyone (GLO) group having "rights" to them.

Would like to learn, hear, see more about that tradition (?).

And while I did not see the link in sig, my POV and belief is that links provided on this site should be for informational purposes only. Perhaps "cools sites" and direct requests being the exceptions.
One should not use board for direct ads. If John wishes to do so, well it is his board.

And yes, it is John's board and we all should thank him for it. And let him and the mods do what they do.

As for spelling---is is e before i, or i before e or is it y.....in other words if posting is understandable, do not change a thread direction due to it. If you must, send send a PM.

Time to get cleaned up--will think good thoughts for all....

This topic has been discussed exhaustively over the years and there are probably some threads on GC about it. You can also Google it to find some information. It's cool to learn the rich history of all of these traditions but many Greeks take this debate (along with other reoccurring debates) waaaaaaaaay too seriously.

Next ask if I want a sidekick, those are selling like hotcakes in the Alpha Delta Phi forum.

Why are you picking on the Alpha Delts?

Because one of them was seen rocking a sidekick. Everyone knows that Kappa Sig has the rights to them. Patent pending, buddy.

But I can't remember if it's Alpha Delta Phi Society or Fraternity that has the sidekicks... and I wanted one sooo bad.

I don't know what it is either. It's a combo of age and a failure to keep up with the latest technology. :D

It's T-mobile's phone with wireless internet capability, very similar to a PDA.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...r_sidekick.jpg

I've never really been a big fan of them.

And she's not picking on the Alpha Delts. SPAMMERS for some reason like the Alpha Delta Phi forum to advertise their crap.

Because there's no mod i think :(

tallgreekalum 09-28-2006 08:28 AM

I knew about those, but am surprised that one single fraternity would think that they have exclusive rights to them, so I thought it might have been a nickname for something else. And just curious as to why a Kappa Sig is in the ADPhi forum anyways?

You mean a SigKap, not a Kappa Sig...right??

Many of us, when we come onto GC in the morning (afternoon, evening, whatever), instead of going to specific forums, just hit the "New Posts" button, and it shows us all the threads that have been posted in since last visit, regardless of what forum they're in.

But you can look over to the right hand column after you've hit "new posts" where it says, "forums." This way, you'll know which folder the topic is in, preventing you from accidently crashing on another sorority's forum.

A) DUH
B) It was spam
C) The Alpha Delta Phi Society Forum has 4 threads, and has yet to be posted in by an Alpha Delta Phi...I don't think anyone cares if they're being "crashed"
D) I'm not aware of any password-protected, members only Forums...they are all public, regardless of whose name is on the top.
E) STFU

Why are you being so defensive? I was just trying to be helpful.

You seemed not to know which forum you were in by this post to TallGreekAlum, "Many of us, when we come onto GC in the morning (afternoon, evening, whatever), instead of going to specific forums, just hit the "New Posts" button, and it shows us all the threads that have been posted in since last visit, regardless of what forum they're in."

I was well aware of what forum that thread was in. I was explaining to tallgreekalum why a SigKap would be looking at threads in the ADPhi forum.

Oh, oops. I'm not a kappa sig. I was just making fun of that vinupe guy for trying to rile people up about who has the "right" to have a cane. After watching some threads go to crap, a non-greek might really think something like that. Besides official shields, emblems and the actual names of the organizations, no one really has an exclusive right to anything.

There is no "crashing" of public forums.

Drolefille 09-28-2006 01:25 PM

If you're talking about me, I do go and click the "new posts" button. I'm well aware that what I'm reading is in the ADPhi forum ( at blueangel) but there have been a few spammers that, if called out, become productive members. And sometimes you need to draw attention to it to get it deleted. But mostly it's just funny.

That particular thread was started by a spammer and then full of "new" GC members saying they want a sidekick. (they all have one post and it's in that thread). One big spam.

/And I don't feel constrained to posting only in certain forums. There are times that I will apologize for "crashing" (Like if the only people talking were XYZs), and there are times when everyone has "crashed" already, so no biggie.

Apparently, this OP isn't going to be one of those.:p

Langox510x 09-28-2006 01:39 PM

So whats the answer to the post??

AlphaFrog 09-28-2006 01:44 PM

I think there's been PLENTY of answers to the "post". And if not, do a search on the topic, as it's been done MANY times before, and the OP's intent was SPAM anyway.

The original? Seems to be that anyone has the "right" to a cane.

Do you say "excuse me" when you bump into someone? Why? Same reason. Do you NEED to say "excuse me" when it was an obvious accident? No, but it's polite.

Exactly-- which proves my point. You (plural) are "crashing" when you post in another sorority's folder when you're not a member. That's not to say that non-members should always stay out-- there are a number of valid reasons a non-member can contribute. For instance.. it's always nice of a non-ZTA to advise us that there is a ZTA badge on e-bay up for bid.

I have no idea why people do anything. Saying "sorry for the crash" when posting in a public forum is a pussy move, in my opinion.

With the "crashing" equivilant in nature to walking up to a party in a college town where there are 400 people on a front lawn the size of a Dodge Ram and joining in the festivities. Are you technically crashing? Yes. Does anyone give a flying F*ck? No. Do some feel compelled to point it out anyway? Apparently.
