Saturday (bid day) seems so far away, though. Then again, tommorow seems just as far away. I was never good with suspense. |

Good luck tonight! I'm sorry to hear that scheduling issues have limited your choices... but as the mantra here goes, it only takes one :-)
|
So tonight was skit night, and the one sorority I had on my plate was scheduled for six. So I dressed myself all nice and neat, and went out. Some girls there seems rather sour about being there, as if they wished to be elsewhere, but one of the Rho Chis said I was absolutely beaming to be there. I think I look a bit like this: :D
So the president walked out and said hello, welcome, and girls walked out in pretty dresses of XYZ's color, calling out people by name and walking them in. I was surprised to notice that a lot of names were called and a great deal of htem had no person to answer them! They just didn't show up! Time goes by...my name isn't called, and I start to panic inside. Finally they come out and say the list of girls who was to be there at that time had been cut short and they were missing a lot of names, so they invited us in, took our names, and sat down. I sat with a wonderful sister who really made me feel at home, and I got along with her great. They did a skit (can't describe it, though, for the sake of discretion) and it was so funny, I loved it. Then they showed a slide show, which only deepened my resolve that this is my sorority. This is the sisterhood I would feel at home with. The girl with me told me a lot, answered my remaining questions, and joked with me a bit. And it seems like just as it all started, it was time to go. I left more determine than ever and with highest hopes. Pref night is tommorow. The suspense is KILLING me!! Thank you all so much for all these kind words. It's helped keep my chin up! |
well yay sounds like you had fun and it DOES show on your face whether or not you want to be there no matter how hard you try... I heard about a girl at our recruitment who refused to go in one house on pref night i believe. I was told she was in front of the house right before the party was to start yelling at her rho gamma saying no way was she going in that house. I thought "OMG how rude!!!!" Even if I didn't want to go into a house, I tried to make the best of it and one house that at first wasn't very interested in became one of my favorites by the end of the week. Ideas change and chapters I ranked high I now don't think I would have fit in there...I sincerely hope you get your first choice and you have a great day tomorrow!! But and not to be a kill joy, but I wouldn't take the tag off my dress until the last minute in case you get the awful phone call, WHICH I HOPE YOU GET TO WEAR YOUR DRESS AND HAVE A WONDERFUL PREF NIGHT!

I'm addicted. I shouldn't be, but I am. Good luck!

I'm crossing my fingers for good luck for you tomorrow!!!
|
I got the call.
See you guys next year. |
Symbal, I'm sorry recruitment didn't work out for you. If it's any consolation, there are absolutely amazing girls going through this year. We have to release the most girls because we rushed number one last year, and trust me, nobody wants to cut the majority of these girls. Try not to take it too personally (which I know is hard), know that you tried your best.. and remember.. there is ALWAYS COB!!!
Something I think you might like to hear.. I think I know what chapter you're saying is your favorite. If its who I'm thinking of, I'm like 99% sure they will be doing COB. You might even get snap bidded, because in the years I've been here, that chapter does not make quota. So please keep COB in mind, find out when their parties are (read the DA- every sorority puts their ads in there), and if you love them as much as you say you do in your posts, GO TO COB!! |
Symbal, I'm so sorry FR didn't work out for you. I agree with the above poster - consider COB! I was the COB chair my sophomore year, and I can't tell you how many women joined through COB and loved it! It's way less stressful than FR, and you get a better idea of who the women in the chapter really are. One of the girls I COB'd became the sister who was elected chapter president after me.

I'll keep my options open, but I honestly want nothing more than to wash my hands of Pan-Hel for a couple hours and eat junk food. Lol. :p
But it's kind of hard not to take it personal. |
I've been there! You'll feel better soon, and who knows what might happen...
|
*hugs*
I'm sorry things didn't work out the way you wanted. Please think about COR hun! |
<<<<<BIG HUGS>>>>>
I sent you a private message. |
I'll keep my options open, but I honestly want nothing more than to wash my hands of Pan-Hel for a couple hours and eat junk food. Lol.
Go ahead and ignore everything and eat junk food for a couple of hours... and once that's done, think about informal recruitment/COB/COR/whatever it's called this week! :D I'm sorry things have happened the way they have thus far, but I really do hope you'll consider it (since it sounds like you still want to be Greek). Good luck!! |
I'm so sorry that it didn't work out the way you'd hoped. You seem like you have a great perspective on the situation, and I fully support the junk food idea :) I'm sending lots of love your way.
|
I'm so sorry, Symbal. Believe me, I know *exactly* how you feel. But rest assured that life does go on. Do whatever you need to do this weekend. Sulk, pout, hang out with your non-Greek friends and complain. But if you want to join a sorority...get right back into the swing of things Monday morning. You control your destiny. You seem (from this thread, anyway) to be an outstanding woman, and I'm sure that you'll find your perfect sorority home if that's what you choose for yourself. Good luck!
|
Stick around GC though. Letters aren't required to stay. :)
|
Thank goodness!! lol
|
i'm sorry things didn't work out! have a great rest of the semester!
|
((((((Symbal))))))
If your campus does COB and you are ready to jump back in, check it out. You've got a great attitude and there were some events you missed because of conflicts which didn't give you or the chapters a chance to meet you and vice versa in the first rounds. Good luck and please let us know how it is going. |
Symbal, not sure if you're still considering COB, but I came across this ad on facebook for the sorority you liked..
september 27 & 28th 7-8:30 pm at the house I dont want to disclose any more details, I don't think anything would give it away but you never know! That's really all you need to know anyway. Good luck, I hope you still consider COB! |
Thanks guys! I AM doing COB and I visited a house tonight, the house I never got to go to the first week due to class conflicts and got along there really well, but I havea feeling COB will be harder than Formal rush!! You get to know them a lot better, and that makes things a bit...complicated? You know?
|
Yay- it's great to hear you're keeping at it! Especially since you couldn't meet everyone during formal recruitment. I'm not sure how informal recruitment is at your school, but it was definitely an "easier" process at our school. We also didn't have issues with reaching total, though.
Anyway, good luck!! |

Good luck with COB!:D

Symbal--
So glad to hear you are "back at it". I hope your COB will be a less stressful time than your FR and you can concentrate on truly getting to know the members and vice versa. GOOD LUCK!! |
I kind of like it because it give me a better picture of what I'm 'getting into.' I know who they are a little more instead of the cookie-cutter visits. It would be the choosing part if I received more than one bid, you know? It's hard to choose.
|
I'm really hoping that you enjoy your experience. Fingers crossed.:)

For what it's worth, as an alumna, to this day I don't wear my letters when I am drinking. (These days, that's after an event where I'm actually wearing my pin.) As a collegian, even if we were sitting around having a drink at someone's apt, we made sure we weren't in letters or requested that someone lend us a non-letter t-shirt. |
I have heard of prohibition of wearing stitched letters before becoming a fully active member, but not earning your letters? Never heard that.

I believe there are only 2 NPC sororities that only allow initiated members to wear letters (Alpha Epsilon Phi & Pi Beta Phi). Any sorority chapter (that is not one of those 2) is in violation of their policies if they forbid new members to wear letters. |
