I don't have a perm and I can "wash and wear" my hair. So I'm still not getting your reference.

They'll regret it once they see the ratings go through the roof!

I'll be watching the show because I think that it will be interesting. I need to admit that even though the idea of the show seems wacky, I'm a little interested to see how it turns out. I already have a preconceived thought of how it's going to go down. I'll just have to wait and see if it materializes.

Well, your comment kinda left it wide open for interpretation. I'm sure you can see that. I just washed my hair about 10 minutes ago and decided to look at it when it was wet b/c I read this thread prior to getting in the shower. I have a relaxer and my hair stayed pretty much straight when wet, aside from a few loose curls towards the end of my hair. So, based on your comment one could say that I'm not a "negro" b/c my hair doesn't get curly or coarse. If you (Dionysus) are Black or African-American then I am sure you know how we all have different types of hair texture, but that in no way defines how much or less black we are than the next. Hair texture in our community is a big issue. :( Bigger than it should be.

Who's watching tomorrow night? :)

RedefinedDiva 09-13-2006 10:17 AM

I'll be watching. I want to see what the hype is about.

Does anyone know if the episodes will be available for free on CBS.com, like Big Brother? I think I forgot to set my VCR and I won't be home in time to see the episode. I may have to run home at lunch....

ScholarOn 09-13-2006 12:27 PM

I want to watch, but I'm affarid to get sucked into the show, especially since I've never watched a single episode ever.

You may have time to set it because the show comes on Thursday.

LMAO!!!! MY bad, RD, I typed tonight in error. CTFU @ aopirose.

_Opi_ 09-13-2006 03:20 PM

This is the stupidest concept I've heard for a show, but I'm going to sell out and watch the first episode to see it for myself.

The only thing I'm thinking at this point is, will these teams have names besides the "white team" or the "Asian team"?

And I thought it was coming on Thursday..or today?

CrimsonTide4 09-14-2006 08:38 PM

Black people, you're embarrassing me with this challenge. :(

ETA: Sekou, your azz has got to go.

DSTCHAOS 09-14-2006 09:00 PM

I accidentally stumbled upon the show and watched it.

It's dumb.

Pretty much. I am glad Stephanie voted Sekou off. She remembered his lazy tail not making the fire.

I was annoyed that the women let the men make the Exile Island decision. Then I was tickled that the Exiled guy was like "the African Americans put me in Exile because I stole the chicken from the Hispanics." :D

And when the black group couldn't get the raft together, I thought to myself: There will be a lot of editorials using Survivor examples as indicative of some larger race issues. I can see a "why is the Black community so divided" editorial based on the black group's inability to put the boat together. :)

Nonsense and gooblygob.

I noticed that and thought wow it is still happening. Once the host mentioned it, the ladies hemmed and hawed about it.

I also noticed how Sekou called them girls at one point while building the hut.

You're right that the raft exercise will lead to "Houses Divided Cannot Put Rafts Together" commentary after this episode.

aopirose 09-15-2006 11:04 AM

Well, I saw it but didn't pay that much attention. We were at an alumnae event and the TV was on in the background. There is an AOII competing. The pieces that I did see were the challenge and when the men exiled the other guy. I couldn't understand why the women didn't take part in that decision. Very strange. I'll try to watch again next week when I can pay closer attention.

tangent - Every time I see the name Sekou, I think that it says Suduku like the puzzle. :o

They were allowing the men to take charge, perhaps because the men jumped out front. We all know that "men" means "I know what I'm doing" and "I have to take charge." :p

God forbid women take charge or at least participate in decisions. Bitchy femini-nazis act like they don't need men to think. Or even angry black women with opinions. :)
