This all depends on the environment of your job/church. I'm very comfortable wearing jeans to church because it is the environment that has been set. It's not an every Sunday or church function occurance; however, i will wear jeans...

*No "mom jeans", you're not 50. (yes I've seen mom jeans on women my age)

*None of those "Mrs. Pitt/Kutcher/Timberlake" items!

*Sweaters or clothing with cute animals on them (you know, the ones like your kindergarten teacher would wear).

*Clear plastic stripper heels.

*SANDALS WITH SOCKS=NO.

*See through is for lingerie ladies.

*Bikini tops when you are not at a beach/outdoor type party function.

*Underwear are called UNDERwear for a reason. No one wants to see them.

*Midriff can be done in a cute and tasteful way, but it is for BARS/CLUBS ONLY.

*YOU are in you 20's. By now, you KNOW if your belly is not one that needs to be shown. Please spare our eyes and keep it covered if you have enough rolls to open a bakery.

*By now, you also know if your body is one that looks good in low rise jeans. If it doesn't, please refrain from wearing them in public.

*Unless you are pregnant, NO OVERALLS.

*No Mary Janes.

*No elastic waist shorts or skirts unless you are pregnant.

*Keep your nails simple, a SINGLE color of polish or preferably a French manicure.

Really. I think people can by stylish wearing hush puppies. I believe they should only be worn with pants, and it all depends on the cut of the pant.

It depends on the Hush Puppy, too...they're not ALL your Grandma's shoes:

Though I never wear jeans or flip flops to church (well, I hardly ever wear jeans and never wear flip flops period), I do wear denim skirts/jumpers/shirts at times during ordinary Sundays. However, for Christmas and Easter I wear one of my nicer dresses, hosiery (as compared to socks), nice flats/pumps, full make-up, and my hair nicely styled. On non-holiday Sundays, I dress much more casually, but still modestly.

At my school capris and a nice shirt are pretty much standard for women.
A new librarian at a regional library in our system got into trouble for wearing capri pants and moccasins one weekday. The chief supervising that library is VERY chic, though. I have worn capris on weekends- but they are nice aqua capris that are neither short nor tight.

*SANDALS WITH SOCKS=NO.

Somebody wore sandals with socks to work once or twice. However, she is from a foreign country. I have heard the stereotype about people in various countries (including that one) wearing sandals with socks.

Wouldn't overalls be highly impractical for pregnant women, given that they take longer to go to the bathroom when you are wearing them? I wear neither jumpsuits nor overalls for that reason- I go to the bathroom very often.

Depends on the style of the Hush Puppies. If they are the low heeled pumps I have, they are best for Sunday dresses or outfits you would wear for a job interview (including but not limited to suits).

Quote:

I have a few drawstring pants/skirts. But I think what you mean is those really cheap looking ones that do not look good on anyone.

*Sweaters or clothing with cute animals on them (you know, the ones like your kindergarten teacher would wear).
I think of those only as an uniform to be worn only at certain jobs. I do not wear those ever- but the children's librarian at another regional wore those and they worked well for her.

What company still makes jumpers? Or maybe what you mean by jumpers is different than what I have in mind.

This is what I think of when I hear jumper:
http://www.commonsensepatterns.com/i...T%20Jumper.jpg

No one over the age of like 6 should be wearing these. They have not been in style in a long, long time.

Who makes jumpsuits????

I haven't seen overalls on anybody but window washers the past few years. Oh, wait, and Jessica Simpson when she's being a scrub. They look even worse on her because of her boobs.

All of the above things that I mentioned frighten me.

tunatartare 08-18-2006 09:37 AM

Jumper is British slang for sweater. I'm hoping that Scandia is part British and that was what she meant by jumper, because that word brings back bad memories of Jew camp and synagogue.

33girl 08-18-2006 10:36 AM

Re Charlotte Russe, they do have some things that are suitable for non-club wear if you 1) dig 2) wear THE CORRECT SIZE. I have an adorable sweater from there that I've worn to work.

Re church: it all depends on the makeup of the congregation/community. When everyone was working on farms and in mines, they got dressed up in "Sunday best" - suits, ties, dresses and hose. But nowadays when more people have white collar jobs - that's what you wear every day. There's nothing "special" about it. I think that accounts for the more relaxed dress in churches in general. However, the only person who should have a bare midriff in church is Baby Jesus. :)

JUMPERS? Scandia, stop. Catholic school is OVER! You don't need to wear tose anymore. :(

Sunday dresses should be worn with FASHIONABLE shoes! You are not a pastor's wife! Repeat: I am a Catholic. I am not a pastor's wife! Get some cute sandals to wear with your dresses! You live in FLORIDA! Enjoy it!

I know that they call sweaters "jumpers" in England, but I don't think that's what we're talking about.

And that is a LOVELY jumper dress...LOL:eek:

Regarding jumpers: the denim one I bought at The Gap back in the late 90s, and it has darts to fit the hourglass figure of an adult. I have seen many other grown-up women wearing it. In fact, a fellow teacher at a school where I taught was wearing a similar one once. It is notthing like the one in the picture- now that one is cut for little girls. This one allows plenty of room for curves and for showing off a slim waist.

And I did get the cute sandals- but my church's AC is powerful and I do sniffle. I will wear them for special occassions.

Regarding jumpsuits- HOPEFULLY they went away with the 80s. Bad memories of having had to wear them.

I did see overalls in my APO female brothers back in the 90s. But in this millenium, I have only seen them on little boys. And that is a good thing.

Unless it is a REALLY classic and timeless piece such as a cashmere sweater, anything purchased in the late 1990's should not be worn in 2006.

I too had such a jumper, in a really nice plaid. It was cute and in style in 1995 or 1996 when I bought it.

No matter how it is cut, JUMPERS should NOT be worn. They are so horrible out of style it's not even funny. And a DENIM jumper????

I know a lot of teachers who dress very, very badly. Actually, I do remember a lot of teachers wearing rather unflattering jumpers... it was like a teacher's uniform or something.

Well, I have read in more than one current fashion magazine that jumpers are coming back to style. And I do have a plaid dirndl style jumper (with darts, of course) that my mother made for me that I sometimes wear- but never to work on a weekday.

I did get rid of most of my other jumpers when I became a professional. I only kept those two.

In my secondary school, everyone talked about which teachers dressed badly and which teachers had wardrobes you wanted to raid.

I get many of the fashion magazines that exist and I go to the mall and shop frequently. Please give me a citation of which current fashion magazine talked about this or what current stores even sell these?

Particularly ones made out of denim.

And plaid anything hasn't been in style for quite awhile.

The last person to pull off plaid is now pregnant with Child #2. <Insert "Oops She Did It Again" joke here.>

I would LOVE to know which magazine this is.

They were not plaid or denim. It was a solid black jumper that was shown.

I think it was the InStyle magazine. The fashion edition IIRC. I'll look it up tomorrow at work.

Also, I won't lie. I wear flip-flops everywhere. Yes, even to work. In fact, I'm wearing a pair now.

Plain black and denim jumpers are very different. A plain black one that's knee-length might actually be stylish if worn with the right accessories.

Denim jumpers make me think of a good TV show, though.

That and it might have just been a black dress. Little black dresses in classic cuts are always instyle.

I'm calling BS on InStyle...I just went to their website, and they show this coming back in style:

Actually, the outfit in the top pic isn't so bad...except that bow that's about to eat the model's head.
