Did anyone else see Borat on Leno last night? Hilarious stuff. He completly co-opted Martha Stewerts interview with Leno. He asked her if she lived in a cage!

my mom was interested in watching it, just because my bf and i were talking about it so much - so i took her the ali g show dvd to watch first. i think if you haven't seen that, then you prolly won't get borat.

Not true. I never even knew about this Ali G show until AFTER I saw Borat, and I still got it.

jon1856 11-13-2006 09:20 PM

My Mom saw it this past weekend and thought is was the worst object she ever saw on film.

Peaches-n-Cream 11-13-2006 09:20 PM

I saw Borat this weekend. I thought it was funny, but parts were gross. My fiancé could not stop laughing. He wants to see it again.

Yeah, I can't imagine my mom liking it. I was surprised, though, by a couple sitting next to me in the theatre. They looked old enough to be my grandparents, and they were laughing throughout the whole movie!

Great Movie.

The running of the Jews had me dying!

I'm pretty sure that the Chi Phi guys were not just playing along. I haven't confirmed it, but I have heard that they are trying to sue because they came across as such assholes...which they definitly did. I would be ashamed if I were them. The one guy (the middling fat guy) came across as a total tool bag, and then they guy commenting on minorities and women will probably never get laid again.

Yeah I read an online article about their lawsuit. I think it may've been on MSN. LOL.

ufdale 11-21-2006 10:33 PM

I thought the movie was hilarious, but there were some points that I thought were kind of sad/upsetting. I felt really bad for the Jewish couple at the B&B that offer him their home and try to make him feel welcome with food. I felt that the anitsemetism in the film went way too far and that they were picked on way more than any other group. I also thought that the part in the antique shop was pretty horrible.
I love love loved the naked part where they are running in the conference room. omg too funny! especially if you think that they really did it and it wasn't just a bogus conference. haha

They were complete assholes. They also made USC look bad too because their hats had Cocks in huge letters. I was kind of wondering why they mentioned what fraternity they were in? Was it to give credibility that they really were fraternity guys?

Borat is too funny. S.B.Cohen is so funny! In all his movies, acts, shows... A good dose of laughter!

I know. But I bet the reason they were picked on more than any other group is that Sacha Baron Cohen is, himself, a devout Jewish man. He keeps Kosher, observes the Sabbath, and his fiancee (Isla Fisher) is converting before they get married. He was just showing how ridiculous the stereotypes of Jews are.

I see those hats all the time and I live in Michigan.

To anyone who saw the movie and was offended... why did you even go see it? You knew it was contraversial. You knew it could be offensive. That's like "Hey I know that pond has ecoli in it but I wana see what it's like so I'll just jump in anyways because everyone else is".

Well, you are suppose to be offended, everyone who sees it is suppose to be offended. That is the point of the movie and the avant garde beauty of it. If you werent offended well, then something is wrong with you, because I don't see how this movie wasnt offensive to every american who calls themselves american, and even if you know you will be offended (which you will) you should go see this movie because it says and shows a lot of important things, while being fucking hilarious at the same time!!!

Well yeah had I been any one of the groups that was picked on, I'd probably be offended. However it's one thing to go to a movie you KNOW will be offensive and laugh, and another to go to that movie and complain about it.

Well, the movie isn't explicitly about you, but you are the reason why it had to be made . . .

Are you american... if yes, then you are one of those groups that was picked on, it should little groups for a bigger picture of America. Thats the whole point. You should complain about it, you should talk about it, debate about it, be upset about it. Its the point.

Hmm... I thought the point was to make fun of stupid people and stupid stereotypes and legends (the "Running of the Jews") and for entertainment.

And yes. I'm American. And I like stupid comedies.

AlexMack 11-25-2006 11:07 AM

So I finally saw it last night and the whole theater (packed, I might add, I had to sit at the front which blew) was laughing uproariously throughout the entire film.
I have seen Borat make fun of English people so it was lovely to see him go after Americans instead. His performances at the Rodeo and the dining society were absolutely priceless.
My brother has an ipod mini and I have an ipod. Success! Ipod minis are for girls!

Well, the point is to make fun of stupid stereotypes, you are right, and it is a "stupid" comedy, but the intellegence behind it is imense and carries a greater purpose. What you are laughing at, and what i was laughing at was our own country and our own surroundings in which what the outside world precieves is not too far from the truth. When they visit here, those are the people they meet. That is there represtation of America, and that should make you think. In no way am I criticizing (sp) you, just pointing out that there is other layers to the "stupid" comedy

There's a great interview with Sacha in Rolling Stone this month. Very insightful and informative. I recommend you read it.

RU OX Alum 11-27-2006 01:42 PM

I finally saw it on thanksgiving day before turkey eating.

It was hilirious..."how fast do you have to drive to kill a gypsy?" haha and then that guy said "about 35 or 40" pure brilliance

I think Pamela Anderson was in on it.

Yup, she was. Most of the others weren't though. He even stayed in character to deal with cops.

:D :D I thought so.

Also, not sure if anyone else noticed this...but Borat does a lot of stuff right out of vaudville. The best example of this was the "off-balance" bit he did in the antique shop, I think they were in Texas. hilliarious, i thought.

During the movie, Borat hitches a ride with 3 Chi Psi brothers, and they get wasted, watch a porno, and a couple of the brothers say some slightly offensive things (all I can remember is "if you're a Jew, you get special treatment in America" or something like that).

Do you think Chi Psi cares? My friend said they'd probably like it, since its promotion, but it seems like it makes them look pretty bad IMO.

L.A. judge sides with "Borat" against frat boys
Mon Dec 11, 5:57 PM ET
As the esteemed Kazakh television journalist Borat Sagdiyev might say: "High Five. Sexy Time. You Lose."

Two college fraternity buddies shown guzzling alcohol and making racist remarks in the "Borat" movie have lost their bid for a court order to cut the scene they claim has tarnished their reputations, court papers revealed on Monday.

The students sued the movie's distributor and producers last month, saying filmmakers had duped them into appearing in "Borat" by getting them drunk and falsely promising the film would never be shown in the United States.

At the time the suit was filed, a judge denied the pair's request for a temporary restraining order that would remove footage of them from the film, but the plaintiffs were given a another chance to seek an injunction at a hearing last week.

The South Carolina college students lost again when Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joseph Biderman ruled they had failed to show a reasonable probability of success on the merits of their case or that money damages alone would be insufficient to resolve their claims.

Arguments on the latest motion focused mainly on the future DVD release of the hit movie, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."

The faux documentary, distributed by 20th Century Fox, has already grossed more than $120 million at the North American box office after six weeks in theaters.

The lawyer for the students, Olivier Taillieu, said last week that while the film's theatrical run is coming to a close, the perpetuity of the film on DVD posed ongoing problems for his clients, including harm to their ability to seek work.

Last month, Taillieu said the movie had cost one of the students a job at a major corporation and another a prestigious internship. The students were identified in court papers only as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2. A third student involved in the scene did not take part in the suit.

The film stars British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen as a fictional Kazakh TV journalist whose boorish sensibilities clash with ordinary Americans. The story line is driven by a series of improvised encounters with people who become Baron Cohen's unsuspecting foils.

The scene at issue in the lawsuit depicts Borat getting drunk with three frat boys in a motor home while they watch a sex tape and make racist remarks about slavery and minorities in the United States.

20th Century Fox is a unit of News Corp.

I finally saw Borat last weekend. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. I think both my husband and I could have done without the hotel scene, but other than that, I was cracking up the whole time. The rodeo scene was in the town next to mine. I remember when they were filming about a year and a half ago or so and the news show I was working on ran a story about Sacha Baron Cohen tricking people at the rodeo for his TV show. We didn't know it would be part of the movie :) One of my coworkers knew some of the people in the scene.
