A sorority sister, who works downtown near me, ... we ran over to our house for an hour today to help during lunch and saw all of you all and both said thanks for not having rushed at UK. It would suck to have to pref KKG and whatever chapter is on the other side of campus... wearing heals and walking the length of the mall twice.
Explain this to me, someone from UK (or a big SEC school) why did she have to list her top 8 today? Wouldn't she get to wait till tomorrow to see who invited her back before having to make cuts?

Good luck tomorrow... wherever your sore flip flops take you!

Priority Recruitment or P-Rush. One of it's pluses------- gets the PNM's into the mutual selection feel and the process of dropping and releasing. Some schools use this and ask PNM's to list her top 8 and then rank the remaining. If one of her 8 does not match, then they go to #9. Almost always guarantees a full 1st invite of parties for every PNM. I'm sure others can explain it better. Some universities use this process all the way to pref.

leesek 08-15-2006 12:04 AM

I just talked to my daughter and she said that the PNMs have to rank their top eight choices in order of preference.. This is new this year at UK.

CuriousWildcat 08-15-2006 07:49 AM

well I just got my invite list, and sadly did not get a full schedule. Thats ok, it will just make then next round easier to pick my 6 (haha). I got invited back to:

Lilac
Amber
Pink
Green

I will let you know what happens! Send me positive energy and luck! Thanks!

AGDee 08-15-2006 07:56 AM

They were all in your top 8 and remember, as has been said in many threads so far this recruitment season.. in the end, you can only join 1. Keep a positive attitude!

_Lisa_ 08-15-2006 08:16 AM

Congratulations on being invited back to 4 of the houses that were in your top 8! :D

CuriousWildcat 08-15-2006 08:25 AM

Yeah, Im really glad that I got invited to the ones I did, its just a little discouraging that the 4 that I thought I clicked with the most I didnt get asked backto. Its ok though, my gamma chi group and I were talking aobut it and we decided that if a group didnt invite you back then they realize that maybe you wouldnt have fit with them as well as you might have guessed. Its ok, they know their sorority the best and know who will mesh. Im excited to get to go back to the other houses again!

FSUZeta 08-15-2006 08:37 AM

congratulations curiouswildcat on receiving invitations to four of your favs!!
enjoy your time with them!! best wishes to you :)

GtownGirl98 08-15-2006 09:32 AM

Positive vibes going out to CW and all the PNMs.

You are correct that sororities sometimes make the tough decisions easier for you. That is a great way to look at the situation. Sometimes it is even out of the chapters hands on who they invite back... specificly after the first round of releases (remember that there are a lot of variables and qualifications that each chapter has on establishing their invitation lists and that it might not have been that they didn't click with you as a person.) Hope that makes sense.

Good luck today. May you have fun, be relaxed, and enjoy the skits! May your feet forgive you... someday. Best wishes!

LouisaMay 08-15-2006 11:31 AM

Good luck, CW!! I'm really excited for you. I'm glad that you are enjoying yourself. Chin up, girlie:)

That is definitely true. Your perceptions of each group will most likely change as the week goes on. A sorority that you love on the first day might not be your favorite by the time Pref rolls around. When I went through rush, the first couple days I was absolutely in love with one particular chapter and I was very disappointed when I ended up not being invited back for Pref. But as I got to know each of the chapters' personalities, I was really glad I didn't get invited back--the girls were all super, but that chapter just wouldn't have been a good fit for me. But the ones you've been invited back to are ones that you liked, so that's great! Hope today is just as fun for you. :)

KSUViolet06 08-15-2006 03:14 PM

Wow, that's awesome that the 4 you got back were in your top 8! You have a nice positive attitude about everything, hopefully it shows when you visit the houses tonight.

CuriousWildcat 08-15-2006 05:26 PM

Well I just got back! I found out that many of the girls only got 3 or 4 invites back, and that makes me feel a little better knowing its not just me :). Here's what happened:

Lilac: I really liked this house and I hope that I get invited back for round 2.

Amber: I lliked this house and would like to go back.

Pink: I felt a good connection with these girls and hope to go back.

Green: I really really liked this house and I was really excited about it when I left. I really want to go back here tomorrow.

So tonight we have to narrow our choices from 8 to 6, which Im sure wont be a problem ;). I hope that I get to go back to all of the houses for round two.

Congrats on having an awesome time today. Good Luck for tomorrow!!!

ADqtPiMel 08-15-2006 10:36 PM

I'm still waiting on my mom to call with updates from my 4 UK girls. All I know is that one of them got dropped by my mother's sorority. None of them have internet access in their dorms yet.

ETA -

My mom talked to one of the UK gals' moms - she got asked back everywhere but Theta and Tri-Delt. The PNM's mom (a very confused non-greek) couldn't remember which ones the daughter picked, except for ADPi - her favorite :)

CuriousWildcat 08-16-2006 07:43 AM

So I'm kind of sad because I just got my round 2 schedule and Ive only been invited back to one house , Amber. I really liked this house, Im just sad because I absolutely fell in love with Green but that's ok, I am going to go and meet some more of the girls and I know that if I have as good of a time that I've had in the past then it will be just fine. It just kinda sucks cuz I was super excited about Green....

FloridaTish 08-16-2006 08:09 AM

I'm sure that you'll have a great time at Amber today...You may just fall as much in love with them as you did Green! Keep your chin up and keep up that positive outlook!!!

SIGKAP DAWG 08-16-2006 08:24 AM

Amber sees all of your beauty inside and out. Sometimes being cut from a house is a blessing. You realize later you would never fit in that house.
Good luck today.:)

_Lisa_ 08-16-2006 08:41 AM

Its OK to be bummed for a few, but just keep your head up & try to be positive. :) Have a good day! :D

proudmom 08-16-2006 09:40 AM

It only takes one, it only takes one, it only takes one!!!

I know you're bummed and sad (and maybe a little embarassed) but I'm REALLY impressed with your whole approach and attitude. And remember a very important thing here: you already LIKE Amber and Amber LIKES you. Where I come from, we call that a match!

Sending you a mom's {{{hugs}}}

I second that! Good luck with today, my thoughts are with you!

Others who know more about this spesific school's rush, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it would hurt to mention when you go back to Amber that it's your only party for the day, depending on the vibe you get from them. (And on my campus, it was a popular question to ask where else the rushee was going that day, so you might be prepared.) When they go to do their cuts later and have to decide between you and another girl, if they know that they don't have to fight for you, that might help you out. Be careful how you phrase it though. If you say "You know, I just didn't connect with the other groups like I did here, and I'm glad I got to come back today" I think you'll give the sisters the impression that it doesn't matter about the other groups, because their house is really where you want to be. Turn the "negative" of only getting to go to one party into a postive (which it seems like you have in your attitude!!).:) :)

I wouldn't say that. While at your campus, it was popular to get asked where else you were going that day, it's not as common in an SEC rush :)

Go to Amber with a smile on your face...good luck!

LouisaMay 08-16-2006 11:01 AM

Have a wonderful time getting to know Amber better!!! See every woman as your possible future sister:)

I wouldn't recommend telling the girls you speak with about it being your only party. If someone does ask where else you'll be headed for the rest of the day then AlphaFrog's suggestion for a response is a great way to phrase it.

I guess my campus was just different, because I swear at least one girl in every group every day asked me where else I was going that day.

CuriousWildcat 08-16-2006 12:19 PM

Well I just got back (after a trip to the nonUK bookstore and walking the entire length of the campus in black dress pants carring 15 pounds of books, which in case you were wondering is not a fun task). I am so glad I went to amber, I connected with the 3 girls I talked to in addition to the other 2 I met previously. The last girl I talked to was awesome and we actually talked about how comfortable I was there and how everyone was real. So I really like it there, and I feel good about it, so hopefully I get invited back to pref tomorrow (and get a bid :D). Thank you all so much for your encouraging words and energy, I was trying to keep pushing myself to make the best of it and your encouragement really helped!

LouisaMay 08-16-2006 12:40 PM

Wonderful! Wonderful! Fingers crossed for you:)

As someone who was in your same boat (a WAY long time ago though), you have done your best. Good Luck!:D

When I rushed at UK, I seem to remember a similar experience--they did seem to like to ask PNMs which houses they'd been to that day. And I guess they still do, or the PNMs just volunteer the info, because when I was an active I would always hear my sisters whispering about which other chapters we were "competing" against for PNMs. ;)

Good luck, CuriousWildcat!

proudmom 08-16-2006 02:24 PM

I am very proud of you for pushing through!!

BGKdLady 08-16-2006 03:10 PM

What would be a good way of answering this question w/o sounding rude and not lying or saying "nowhere else?" I agree that you don't want to tell chapters that they are the only place you are going. Maybe something like, "well, I can tell you which house I'm going to today that I like best!" and then talking about how much you like their house???

adpiucf 08-16-2006 03:15 PM

Nothing wrong with saying it in a way that shows them you are interested:

"I am so excited to be back here at XYZ today!"

"I was so happy when I saw I'd been invited back to XYZ today! I really love everyone I have met!"

"Coming to XYZ each day has been my favorite part of recruitment. I'm so happy to be back today!"
