That was a lie, b/c Star said that statistically, the numbers were high during the time that she was getting married to BGA. Steve called the rest of the cast some cackling, jealous heffas who couldn't handle the newly married and slimmed down Star. |

I was trying to post (as a new thread) an email I received yesterday entitle, "Being Black in the Workplace." How it is sooooooo relevant for Star and The View. I'm glad she's gone. And she went out in PINK! :D
Let's see what Babs and them do now. I guess they will wait for captain save a show Rosie....yeah right! It was about more than the weight and the wedding. You know they are very intimidated by an intelligent, EDUCATED, opinionated sista! I'm sure some of you have seen it on your jobs. (How dare she have such an elaborate wedding? how dare she voice her political ideology? How dare SHE?) Oprah is on another planet, but they tried to get her with the beef scandal a few years ago. It is what it is...it's AMERIKKA (shout out to Soror AKA_Monet)! |
^^
Yeah, Lady O. basically is untouchable. I do suspect Starrah will be OK, at least for a while. BGA was an investment banker, and if he was involved with some good deals, they could live like a king and queen. I still think she's a viable commentator. |

you know when she got married and lost the weight, she changed the dynamic on the show.
- you had the "i'm just like you soccer mom" meridith - the "divorce' with the sharp tongue" joi - the young one (we're on what? young host #3? ditzy @zz elizabeth) - and the "SINGLE + HEAVY sassy sista" i don't like how she was done, but honestly she wasn't fitting in with the other hosts and ALL of their chemistry was off. For a while I DVR'd this show every day, but since the wedding I haven't been able to watch an entire show. i don't like how she was treated but i'm glad she has this opportunity to move on and move UP. |
Middle American housewives--who are, at least before the advent of TiVo, are the target audience of The View, and daytime television as a whole, really. Star's wedding and mysterious weight loss alienated that target audience. For the most part, it's hard to survive on daytime TV if you're a diva. Star's too much of a star for daytime TV. Regardless of my views on her, I think she'll do fine.
Oprah's not a diva--we've seen her at her highs and lows, and she's more than willing to admit that she's not perfect. That's why Middle America loves her. |
Star's going to be on Larry King Live tomorrow to talk about this.

What I love is all of the hyperbole about dignity and betrayal. Really? If Star has known for months that her contract was not renewed, then that means that she had to go into work every day and pretend as though nothing had changed. Smiling and laughing as though she had not been played. She was the one who endured what I can only imagine was personal humiliation--that was, at the same time, very public--when she found out that they had selected Rosie O'Donell to replace Meredith Viera. That was a blatant and deliberate slap in the face. And then for Walters to say that they couldn't pretend any longer? Please.
I am not her biggest fan either, but I am incensed about all of the melodramatic language that Babs used to describe Star's exit. I am not fooled by it either, though the majority of the viewing public probably is. The ABC executives and the executives at the view handled this situation very poorly. To me, Star handled the whole thing with dignity and on her own terms. That, at least, is something. |
Star calls Baba a hyprocite (NY Daily News)
Star Jones Reynolds has launched a bitter counterattack after Barbara Walters sensationally dissed her on yesterday's edition of "The View."
In an exclusive interview with the Daily News, the TV diva fought back after the show's creator said she felt let down, and that she was no longer welcome on set. "For Barbara to say she felt betrayed is the height of hypocrisy," Jones Reynolds said last night. Walters, who opened yesterday's show with the remark: "And then there were three," told viewers she was surprised when Jones Reynolds interrupted Tuesday's broadcast to say she was quitting. "We gave her time to look for another job and hoped that she would announce it on this program and leave with dignity," said Walters, confirming Jones Reynolds' contract for a 10th season had not been renewed. "But Star made another choice." Speaking candidly to News contributor Jawn Murray, Jones Reynolds said she was humiliated by Walters' decision not only to let her go but to hire archenemy Rosie O'Donnell as co-host. "Rosie had attacked me on every single evening entertainment program," said the 44-year-old former lawyer. "Barbara used that week to call her and invite her to be part of a show that I helped launch nine years ago." O'Donnell criticized Jones for not confirming that her 150-pound slimdown was partly due to gastric bypass surgery. Jones Reynolds recalled the April 21 phone call from her agents telling her she was being dropped from "The View." "Barbara did not call me herself," she said, bitterly. "After nine years, she didn't call me. They told me my contract would not be renewed because my approval rating had gone down. ... I was like, whoa!" She claimed producers had previously assured her that her job was safe when she challenged them about replacement rumors. "I came to work every day. I held my head up. I operated in grace and dignity," she explained. "I knew since April but I still came to work." The catfight really began after Jones Reynolds told People magazine that "The View" had not offered her a new contract and "I feel like I am being fired." Fur flew when Walters retorted in an interview that Jones Reynolds "lost the audience" and viewers were turned off by her astonishing weight loss and divalike behavior preceding her 2004 wedding. Jones Reynolds countered by blasting Walters' decision to install O'Donnell as co-host in the fall. "[O'Donnell] had been so vicious and nasty to me." O'Donnell couldn't resist another swipe, writing on her Web site blog yesterday that she had spotted swarms of camera crews waiting outside ABC's Manhattan studio. "Drama is as drama does," O'Donnell wrote. "Everybody breathe." A source at "The View" said the staff was glad to see the back of Jones Reynolds, adding: "Star has very effectively alienated everybody on the show." Meanwhile, a friend of the outspoken star said Jones Reynolds and Walters have not been in contact since Tuesday's show. |
It's funny that "they" have such a big problem with her weight loss. Folks are still in search of a mammy-figure.

Ironically, I've heard they are looking at Flo from Good Day NY/LA. After the way they treated Star, I don't know if any black female personality would want that job.
|
^^
Flo Anthony? I'd heard Bo Griffin and Sherri Shepherd (if they were looking for a larger-sized AfAm female celebrity). Most AfAm female celebrities, I'm sure, would look askance at the situation. But I have to be realistic -- I knew Starrah was toast as soon as they brought in Roseanne O'Donnell. |
I was thinking of Bo. Flo wouldn't want that job, especially with the way she's been dogging Baba and Rosie on the radio.
I agree with you on this on, ST. :) |

Barbara doesn't realize how lucky she is that Star didn't get up there everyday and act the fool once she knew she'd been fired. People have shot up their workplaces over less humiliating things than this. Star came on time, did her job, was (usually) professional (or at least as professional as everybody else on that show), and she kept her mouth shut about losing her job until almost the end. She left on her own terms, and by doing so, is generating some major PR for herself!!! Obviously, Star is no dummy. She'll probably get at least a reality show out of this.
Plus Star showed remarkable restraint by not smacking that bubblehead Elizabeth before she walked out! Landsakes, give the woman an award!! |
Star Jones is alright by me
Watching the interview with Larry King, and I promise you, Star is HANDLING that man! She is straight carrying him and he doesnt even know that he is being carried! Every time he tries to catch her in something or put words in her mouth (which he is attempting alot since he and Barbara are super-tight), she flips it right back on him and leaves Larry at a loss for words. It is so refreshing to see someone NOT get played by the media and be able to articulate exactly how they feel. That is a sharp woman and I went from feeling indifferent towards her to actually liking her. I wish her the best from one professional African-American female to another!
|
Whatever!! Those lame over da hill suburban women were jealous of a woman who said, "Hey, I am happy, I get what I want, in other words....I've got it going on and I will not be your puppet slouch."
I wish Star the best. |
Star handled her business
I am so glad that Star was able to tell her side of this mess.:)
If I had been told 2 months ago that my contract was not going to be renewed I don't know if I would have been able to come to work and smile and play nice every day. To sum it up, Star was fired and I am so mad at Babs for still pretending like Star quit. This is the beginning of the end for The View. |
I respect Star Jones Reynolds. I admire her for taking an ugly situation and making it better. I do think at times she got a lil big headed, but then who doesn't. I liked The View when it first started (Meredith, Joy, Star, and Debbie Matenoupolus (sp?) and Barbara), but after Debbie left, it went downhill for me. I haven't watched it since Elizabeth came on. She seemed like a plug in for a demographic, has no opinions of her own, and seems to be the annoying little sister trying to hang with the big girls. Barbara did do Star dirty and the ratings will show that people, whether or not they liked Star, do not like cattiness. I think adding Rosie is a bad idea, there will be no chemistry. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
So does this mean BGA has to get a job now? lol |

Super Neptunes producer Pharrell Williams has been tapped to be the face of Louis Vuitton’s 2006 and 2007 fashion line of Italian suitcases and bags.
Pharrell will soon be featured in national advertisements surrounded by monogrammed Louis Vuitton suitcases. He will also be touting the new Innsbruck carryall bag. Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director revealed the thought process of the fashion line’s new marketing campaign, via a press release statement sent to Vibe.com. Comment "We brought to this campaign a touch of the street, elevated to a rich, modern chic that embodies the message of our ready-to-wear accessories and bags,” Jacobs said. “Working with beautiful, iconic, and powerful faces, we created compositions that boldly display Vuitton's exquisite, super-luxe style." Skateboard P is scheduled to appear alongside supermodels like Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Daria Werbowy. Pharrell's highly-anticipated album, In My Mind, is slated for a July 25 release on Star Trak/Interscope Records. |
No one has mentioned that Lil' Kim is getting out Monday!! She'll be on house arrest for 30 days and then on 3 years probation.

We all agree that Star was done dirty. But I respect the fact that Star admitted that her wedding freebies were a bad idea. She even said that if she had to do it all over again she would do things differently. Did it annoy me personally, yes. However, I don't find it anymore annoying than the rest of the hosts and their antics. Now here's the million dollar question: Do any of you realistically feel that Star can carry her own talk show?
|

There have been jokes about it, but perhaps she and BGA could do a Connie-Maury situation. |

I don't think that people will quit watching the show because Star left though. If the ratings do go down I think it will be more because of Rosie coming in then Star leaving. |

Now, if Star/BGA were to do a Connie/Maury thing and it was canceled, would Star have to do a redention of "Thanks for the Memories"? :p And if they were to do a show, I would imagine it like when Tammy Faye Baker had a talk show with Jim J. Bullock (from Too Close For Comfort). :p
I also agree that Star may survive on something like BET/TVOne or even on Court TV. I don't know if she will for syndication. Foxy can hear and Kim's getting out of jail. Whoooo-hooooo!!!! :) |
What I don't understand is why BW got so bent out of shape when Star made her announcement. So what they gave her the option to tell people whatever she wanted to tell them - that's exactly what she did! Now they have a problem with it.
Whatever, obviously, they are afraid of looking bad. Sounds like a guilty conscience to me. SC Quote:

Brandy to fill in on The View (People.com)
I, a Delta of many words, don't know what to say on this one.
Could Star Jones Reynolds's replacement on The View be Brandy? The singer and actress will fill in on the ABC morning show next Wednesday and Friday, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively. The 27-year-old former Moesha star is currently a judge on America's Got Talent, an NBC reality show produced by American Idol's Simon Cowell. "America's Got Talent has really opened a lot of doors for me," she tells PEOPLE. "I want to do a lot more TV." Her View stint could lead to a full-time job. "These tryouts are for consideration for the permanent gig," a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE. "They plan to have a few people trying out, like what CBS did (before hiring) Craig Ferguson for the Late Late Show." On Thursday, One Life to Live actress Renée Goldsberry was the first guest host to fill in for Reynolds. Goldsberry was recruited "almost at the last minute," according to cohost and show creator Barbara Walters. Goldsberry will be a guest host again on Monday. Tuesday's episode will be a repeat of a previous broadcast and All My Children's Susan Lucci will fill in on Thursday. Born in McComb, Mississippi, Brandy (full name: Brandy Norwood) has released four albums that together have sold more than 25 million copies. She starred in UPN's Moesha from 1996-2001, and had leading roles in the movies TV movies Cinderella and Double Platinum. The View has been the focus of much attention since Reynolds's surprise on-air announcement Tuesday that she would not be returning for the show's 10th season. She revealed to PEOPLE that she had been fired. |
^^^^
Wow. I'on know about this....... |
Umm......BRANDY??????
|
Star will rise to the occassion I am not worried about her as long as she knows whose she is and who is her source! ;) I too am looking at the new View and see that it will be taking a different view-LOL maybe the new viewers will be able to relate to Rosie O'Donnell but I sure can't- I predict they will lose the viewers that Meredith and Star had! and yes the comments about Star Jones-Reynolds in the Entertainment forum were rather tacky!

Not knocking her down from that but I bet that is the reason why ABC was tryypppin' 'cuz they are KNOWN for their hatin' on folks who've found Jesus... I'm serious... ABC/Disney/ESPN has a history about that... So my ironic thought for the day was that F-channel was gonna give Star Jones a nice little call 'cuz they dayum sho can use REPRESENTATION... Now, that'll be interesting... And these F-channel fools are crazy enuf to pay Star for that--she could bring in the Black Conservative Christian Rights together... I dunno if she'd be down for that... But I know she'd better put her JD to work and have it iron clad... |
