did anyone watch yesterday?

why did they go out on the boat? did they have to go and get something? or was it just a symbolism?

tunatartare 07-11-2006 10:08 AM

They needed to go on the boat to get to another box that either had a key to the next box or the next artifact. I'm not that sure. I really hope that the geniuses don't leave your friend Sam behind.

ShaedyKD 07-11-2006 07:25 PM

That Kadie Fogel is the most freakin whiny annoying drama queen ever. I wish America could vote her off. She was crying like someone was stabbing her or something. I was praying...that she would shut up!

I bet the Geniuses will leave poor Sam. And I predict that it will come back and bite them when the next part of the competition requires 3 team members somehow. Like any team that left member behind would be at a disadvantage because they have fewer people. I just have a feeling there will be some sort of twist like that.

I wonder if the Browns will have to drop out like the Grad Students? I wonder if they will give us an update on how that grad student girl is.

hmmm........they only had like three boxes to open and each time i saw all three teammates there to open it together. i guess i will have to catch the re-run before the new episode starts next week. i really think its a symbolism of what the slaves had to do. to have someone go ahead, then come back to get the others. the host did say it would put the team 3 hours ahead or be behind 3 hours of the others.

i hope they dont leave Sam behind either. he is one of the coolest person i know. he wouldnt give me the results when i talked about the show with him . however, i think i saw the team in future episodes in paris. who knows.........

USCTKE 07-12-2006 02:15 PM

was I the only one that enjoyed watching all of them stumble around the swamps of South Carolina?? I grew up not very far from G-town, having been in that sort of situation before I found it hilarious watching someone else have to do it.

tunatartare 07-12-2006 02:18 PM

I googled the song. Here are the lyrics:
When the sun comes back and the first quail calls,
Follow the drinking gourd.
For the old man is awaiting for to carry you to freedom,
If you follow the drinking gourd.

The old man was the guy with the boat. I'm assuming that he takes them to the 4th artifact since there are no other stops according to the poem.

I think you're right about the symbolism, plus it's an interesting twist.

Basically, they have to take the boat to get to the box with the next artifact, but the boat can only carry 2 people (other than the old man). So, when the first two get to the other side, they have to decide whether one of them will go back for the third team-mate (delaying forward movement by a few hours) or go on and abandon the third team-mate.

As for the We’re-tired-of-coming-in-last-but-won’t-do-anything-about-it Browns, they were let back in the game both because the Grad Students were out and because that leg of the game required an even number of teams since they had to pair-up. I was glad to see the Hanlons go -- except for the kid, they quickly wentfrom entertaining to jackasses. The Browns and the grad students can leave anytime now.

The show is definitely growing on me.

Aren't the grad students gone thanks to the wrecked up knee?

Of course, you're right. I meant the so-called Geniuses -- or as I like to call them, Team Wile E. Coyote. (Not that I'm in a position to cast too many stones, having gotten them confused with the Grad Students. ;) )

I have to disagree there. Katie Fogal has GOT to shut up. Please God, let them be the next team to go.

Glad Sam didn't get left behind, AznSAE.

Go team Air Force!

tunatartare 07-19-2006 05:09 PM

It seemed that the Browns just talked and talked too much without actually doing anything. But yea, Katie Fogal is annoying as all hell. I loved when her dad said that with her, everything is about 10 times exaggerated than it really is.

BobbyTheDon 07-19-2006 05:56 PM

Hey AZNSAE, everyone thinks your friend is a douchebag. LOL

for what? sam has not done anything wrong. he is just on a bad team with those two losers. so what if he is not the most athletic person?

why were the browns penalized 6 hours when they could continue with just two people? that katie girl owes her dad big time for sticking to his plans.

i have a feeling that this game will not be foot race to the end.........

My guess (and, it's just a guess) is that it was getting dark, and the swamp was difficult enough to manage during daylight. Perhaps the producers didn't want to risk either of the Brown's getting injured. It did seem pretty unfair, though.

I thought that it was because they were significantly far away from the swamp. Up until they got to swamp, they had to perform as a three person team.

kdonline 07-20-2006 07:09 PM

Approx how old is Katie Fogel? I thought she was 16, but then Mama Fogel said something about their marriage (?) lasting 24 years.

Could this whiner REALLY be 23ish!?

So I've been watching this show and given her behavior, I would have guessed she wasn't much older than 18. I checked NBC's website from the link listed earlier in the thread and she's 25!

I missed this past week, so I'll have to watch the rerun next week.

Haha this means that she was conceived before their marriage. I find this funny.

adpi*violet 07-20-2006 07:46 PM

Not only is she 25, she is a college graduate and married!
From the NBC website:
Quote:

Kayte of Team Fogal Family lives in Orange County, California, with her husband, Ross, and Plato, their three-year-old boxer. She is a schoolteacher who graduated from college with a degree in child development. The oldest of four children, Kayte joined "Treasure Hunters" to spend time with her parents and to help her mother's life-long dream of adventure travel come true. Kayte credits her upbringing as a pastor's kid for her own passion and determination. She sees unity and commitment as two of her family's greatest strengths.

Actually, the NBC website says they have been married 26 years.

tunatartare 07-20-2006 07:54 PM

Oh. Well either way she's still annoying as hell.

tunatartare 07-24-2006 10:13 PM

Yes! The Fogals are finally out! Although I do have to say that I was kind of surprised that it was them and not the Geniuses that got eliminated. When Mrs. Fogal made that comment about it being appropriate that they got eliminated in a church because that is her home, I thought I was going to throw up in my mouth.

adpi*violet 07-24-2006 10:28 PM

Hurray! No more whining!

On another note: Is anyone else still playing the online game that accompanies this show?

tunatartare 07-24-2006 10:32 PM

I gave up after the second episode. Partly because my computer is too slow.

ShaedyKD 07-25-2006 11:11 PM

I just wanna send big ups to God after he answered my prayers and the Fogels got kicked off yesterday.

What's up with Air Force sucking lately? They need to get back in it. The Boston boys are stepping it up, Air Force and CIA better watch out.

blueangel 07-25-2006 11:23 PM

Yeah! They're gone! Now I can fully enjoy the show.

I wonder if, after viewing the show, they're going to realize how stupid they made themselves look. Particularly that whiney daughter.

Go Air Force! That's who I'm rooting for.

HBADPi 07-26-2006 12:05 PM

Oh nice I missed Monday's episode, glad the Fogols are gone. Kayte needed a good punch in the face if she stuck around longer than they had.

SydneyK 07-26-2006 04:40 PM

I thought it was funny that, last week, after they spent a crazy amount of time digging in random places, the Miss USA girls were like, "I wouldn't be mad at either one of you if you wanted to quit now. This is HARD." But then, in Monday's epi, after just walking around a church, trying to figure out a clue, one of them said, "This is the hardest thing we've had to do." I thought, "So, let me get this straight... you've not broken a sweat at all, and last week you practically broke your backs, but THIS is harder?!?"

Anyway, I'm glad God answered so many prayers and relieved the remaining teams (and America) from the whininess that is Katye Fogel.

I'm still an Air Force fan.

DaffyKD 08-01-2006 09:52 AM

I have been enjoying this show. Loved it last night when the Geniuses did not care about Sam's asthma and said "we are climbing" and then griped because Sam had to take a long break. Was sorry to see team USA go, they had such a good attitude even though they always solved clues late.

Team Air Force is still my favorite to win. Did not realize that the gal on the team was married to one of the guys, thought they were just a group of friends from the Academy.

tunatartare 08-01-2006 09:54 AM

I was hoping that ex-CIA would be eliminated instead of Miss USA. I really liked that team.

blueangel 08-01-2006 10:11 AM

I loved the Miss USA team. I would have liked to see the Southies go. They're a bit boring.

That clue about washing the streets was very difficult. I was surprised it was solved by everyone.

I'm still rooting for Air Force!

SydneyK 08-01-2006 10:49 AM

Ok, I missed the first episode of this whole series, so maybe this was addressed then, but...

Sometimes, right before the show goes to a commercial, they show hints. Like, in last night's epi, on the side of the Trophy place, there was a sign that said, "Wipe out the colour to find the path. -Genworth Financial" (Or something very close to that.)

Can the contestants see those hints, or are they added in post production that only the TV audience can see (like the yellow line on televised football games)?

None of the teams have ever referred to those hints, so I assume they can't see them. But, if they can't see them, why are they there?

Kudos to Sam for bucking up and actually climbing the mountain.

I was sorry to see Miss USA eliminated :( Now there's only one woman left in the whole show!

Go Air Force!

tunatartare 08-01-2006 10:53 AM

Genworth Financial sponsors the show. My guess is that the hints are super-imposed to give Genworth more face time during the show and to let viewers try to figure it out at home.

blueangel 08-01-2006 11:11 AM

I really like the show, but I find the commercial plugs very annoying. The contestants were obviously coached to say, "Oh, a MOTOROLA phone call!" when the phone rings. And, "Lets look it up on ASK.COM!"

tunatartare 08-01-2006 11:16 AM

Oh clearly. This is product placement at its finest.

You should be reading the reviews at Reality News Online, where they have made a drinking game out of the product placement.

And yes, it appears that the producers are adding the Genworth Financial "clues" after the fact -- I'm seriously doubting that DOT let them put green signs over the highway, as in one of the first episodes. They are for audience benefit.

I'm still enjoying the show, but last night they really did seem to jump ship from semi-accurate history to conspiracy, "one world order" and Priory of Sion-type speculation with the Rosicrucian mess.

tunatartare 08-01-2006 02:35 PM

Yea, I also doubt that a church would let them advertise in there.

AznSAE 08-01-2006 03:47 PM

i thought the southies kept their discovery of washing the paper a secret on the train? i guess not. good luck to sam next week since he is afraid of heights. i was rooting for miss usa to win the whole thing. they were doing good up until the statue of liberty part.

so next week is the last elimination and maybe a fight. i wonder how they will do the finals.

ADqtPiMel 08-01-2006 07:07 PM

I felt so bad for Sam last night - I'm terrified of heights too and there is no way I could have climbed that mountain.

AXO Alum 08-01-2006 10:28 PM

I am so glad to know that I wasn't the only one rooting for the Fogal Fam to go! I have despised them ever since the episode when the Southies (even though I don't like them) helped them ALL the way carrying their boat & then they up & leave them. Then that prayer about not having more than anyone else  They sure don't have more morals than anyone else. I was so thankful to see them go. I am completely  that Kayte is 25 & married AND a teacher - that is the scariest part of all!! Her kids probably think she is a total loser (and they should) - I have never seen such whining in all my life. She'll probably be telling everyone that gives her an interview after that they totally edited everything to make it look worse than it was. I personally would have left her in the swamp - alone - at night -

Why do the other teams hate Team Air Force? They've been my fav from the start - but I missed the very first episode, so I didn't know if I missed something awful that they may have done like the Fogals & the boat thing.

I wish the Southie's would have left last night instead of Miss USA. I cannot stand to hear them open their mouths to speak - ugh
