It's different at a fast food place than at a sit down restaurant. If you're eating at a place like Applebee's with a friend and don't have a kid with you, then who's gonna believe you're ordering it for your 4 year old?

That is true for the most part (gotta love a kid's meal every now and then). It also doesn't hurt if you're a little short on cash flow. The toys are pretty cool perks as well.

Some restaurants have kid meals that can really be considered adult size. For example, a few weeks ago, my daughter and I ate at this restaurant called Dallas BBQ. My daughter ordered chicken fingers and french fries from the kids menu. Those chicken fingers were HUGE and they gave her around 4 or 5 of them. There was no way she was going to eat all of that. I could've ordered that meal for myself and would've been nice and full, lol.

The portions at Dallas BBQ are ridiculous. I went to one with a friend once. We got a half portion of wings. Between the two of us we couldn't even finish it.

I thought about letting it slide, but then again, DA likes the reinforcement.

I don't know what got me started, but I've been collecting since I was about 8. I think it might have been the antique earring tree I inherited from my Grandmother that was a mushroom with an adorable frog sitting under it. I even has some live ones for awhile.

GeekyPenguin 06-14-2006 01:43 PM

I do at fast food places if I'm not very hungry. At a restaurant I wouldn't, although my boyfriend's 15 y/o sister does because she has a health problem that means she can't eat a lot of things.

I've had frogs also when I was younger!

tunatartare 06-14-2006 03:17 PM

Dude, my first "legal" job when I was 16 was at Taco Bell. It's the only fast food I don't shutter to think how things are made because I know. But then again, I remember getting reamed by our manager because we got a 96% on our Health Inspection, and she'd never had less then 100%, so I don't have any disgusting horror stories.

ETA: Husband likes the tacos and Mexican pizzas. If we ever move to his hometown in Mexico, we're opening a franchise. He says it will go over huge. :p

Now that I know that Taco Bell really is safe, it makes me want it all the more.

Just try not to swallow the toys.

preciousjeni 06-14-2006 11:13 PM

If I ever eat fast food, which is nearly never, I generally order from the children's menu. At sit-down restaurants, I'll order a regular meal and take half home.

Anyway, I seem to recall that fast food kid's meals are the size that adult meals were like fifty years ago...a regular portion. Now the adult meals are like 3 times too big. Has anyone else heard that?

ShaedyKD 06-14-2006 11:30 PM

McDonalds has something called an All American meal, which is a hamburger or cheeseburger, a small fry, and a small drink. It's about the same price as a Happy Meal, if not cheaper. Unless you're going to give it to a kid you know, I don't see the point in getting the toy.

Well what are your options?

tunatartare 06-15-2006 12:30 PM

Falafel, pizza, diner, Subway, Mickey D's, Wendy's, Chinese, hospital caf, Spanish food. You know, your basic food groups.

Well you had falafel yesterday. I'm rather partial to Subway, but Spanish might be nice too...

Pizza is yum if you can just get a piece or two

tunatartare 06-15-2006 12:33 PM

So we've narrowed it down to 3 options lol.
