Is there an 'invisibility' option like at the old GC? You are logged in but no one sees you on the 'users online' list? I've looked around a little at the edit options area but haven't seen it yet.

Some of us like to be sneaky. ha!

We've already brought that up to John in the mod's corner, he said he should be able to enact this.

There's a lot of tweaking left to be done and I think the look is going to change a little bit, so we just gotta let him figure things out and figure out what's best.

I miss the "view recenly active threads" type button that used to be at the top of the main page.

I haven't looked into exactly how that part works now, but I should be able to set it back to the way it used to be - or make it work differently with new titles...

It should be working again now. You may need to logout then login for it to start working again for your account.

At the top right corner of each page, just below the private messages link, is a "Quick Links" drop down menu. If you click that link you'll see a menu drop down that has various links, including one titled Today's Posts. Another useful link is the New Posts link, you'll see that one to the left of Quick Links just past the link for the Search drop down box.

I believe posting images should work the same way as previously. Details on how to post images using BB Codes as well as other BB Codes can be found here.

How do I enable the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom? Mine isn't working and I went in the control panel and changed it to the WSWIYG (sp?) editor. :(

To activate the quick reply box you need to click on one of the quick reply icons for one of the messages in this thread. The quick reply icon is to the right of the Quote icon, at the bottom right corner of each message.

If your post is in relation to another specific message, it's generally a good idea to click on the Quick Reply icon for that specific post as doing so makes it so you can track that specific segment of the thread separately from all other posts in the thread when using the Hybrid or Threaded display modes.

If your post is in relation to the entire thread, but not any specific message, then just use the 'post reply' icon and that will set your post as a base reply to the thread within the hybrid/threaded display modes.

Linear display mode is the default mode for GC. You can switch between the various display modes via the Display Modes drop down menu that is near the top right corner of pages (on this page just below where the page numbers are at the top right).

In Linear display mode the threads will show as they always have on GC. The Hybrid and Threaded modes look a bit different, but enable threads that split into many different sub-discussions to be easily tracked and participated in.

This may be a dumb question, but what are the "public groups" in our profiles?

tunatartare 06-14-2006 08:16 AM

I was trying to figure out the same thing.

Drolefille 06-14-2006 09:56 AM

I've seen them elsewhere. But we don't have groups here..

Why? Some of us enjoyed seeing that people like OTW who claimed to have left actually do still visit GC.

OTW left? I was wondering what happened to her.

Thanks for responding to all our questions John!

As 33girl pointed out to me...the Spam/Report Post button is the red triangle in the upper right corner.

Your PMs now have a capacity of 70. This is represented on the graph at the top. The folder you are currently searching in is shown in red. Other used space is orangish, and free space is green. Pretty handy for determining how much certain folders (such as your sent folder) are actually taking up.

Past Posts

If you click on a member's name and ask to see all the post from that member, it only shows the most recent 500. Will that be rectified?

AGDee 06-17-2006 05:48 PM

New question here.. maybe it's just me, but I'm having to log on every time even though I have checked the box that says "Remember Me" and have cookies enabled. Anybody else?

amanda6035 06-17-2006 09:10 PM

Can somebody tell me if there is a way to STAY logged in? on the old gc, I logged in on my home computer - and it STAYED logged in. I'm not sure if my cookies are being retrded now, but everytime I come back to GC, I have to log in again, and it's a royal pain in the @$$.

That's the one problem I'm having that's really irritating me.

I can't seem to find a security setting that would cause this. Maybe John will have an idea. It didn't happen to me with geekboards and it's the same program running this now. It's a mystery!

John 06-21-2006 11:50 AM

On GeekBoards you used the same computer, same web browser program, etc? Since you were able to remain logged in on that site, but not GC... my initial thoughts are that it has something to do with the browser cookie file. Could be that the browser cookie from the old GC forum software is somehow interfering with the new software being able to set a persistent cookie to keep you logged in. Try to delete the GC cookie, really any/all GC cookies that are on your computer, and see if that helps. Post back here if it does so others will know.

Well for some reason, it works now!

Still can't see the Greek letters though. Hmmmm

Is there a way to stop all of these emails?

I have unsubscribed many times, but each time one posts something new or starts a new thread, it is sent via email.

New GC format questions

Ok, I looked for the "Getting around the new GC" thread, and couldn't find it for some reason...

When I first get to GC, before I log in, the time is correct (you know, where it says, "All times are GMT. The time now is ..."). When I log in, however, the time changes by four hours. Why is it right if I'm a guest, but wrong if I'm logged in?!?

Also, I still can't see Greek letters in signatures, etc. I didn't have a problem on the old board, or on other boards I visit. What am I doing wrong?

tunatartare 07-07-2006 12:14 PM

Check your settings. When you log in, your profile might be set to a different time zone.

AlphaFrog 07-07-2006 12:39 PM

Also, if John happens to read this thread (cause it's right up his alley) can we have a "reply all" feature on the PMs??

Rudey 07-07-2006 12:49 PM

If John reads this, John this format blows. I can't put my finger on exactly why it blows, but it made GC even less fun.

SoCalGirl 07-13-2006 02:44 AM

I can't find the link to check my "@greekchat.com" email. It's seperate messages from the PMs. Where'd the link go?
