There is only one about 5 miles away, and then the next closest is probably about 150 to 200 miles from here.

The one in town only opened 3 weeks ago.

texas*princess 05-06-2006 06:40 PM

there are FIFTEEN within a 5 mile radius of where I live & a mere 7 within a 5 mile radius of my job

KSUViolet06 05-07-2006 08:45 PM

There's actually only one in Kent.

Senusret I 05-07-2006 09:22 PM

There are only three within a two mile radius of where I live.

There are FIFTEEN within two miles of where I work.

alum 05-07-2006 11:00 PM

GEN Alum always whines that there are no Starbucks in Brussels when he gets back from a NATO trip. Poor baby, he's suffering in Belgium while I'm playing maid, chauffeur, single mom....

bcdphie 05-08-2006 11:10 AM

There are 68 starbucks within 5 miles from my house. There are a whopping 96 within 5 miles from my work!

I had to re-register just to reply to this thread, since I've been denied access to post for over month now. This is a sore subject for me.

I live in the largest city in New Hampshire. We have no Starbucks. Nada. None.

There is one at the airport, but it's past security, so if you want a good latte, you need to be leaving town town to get it. A new Target opened in the neighboring town and it has a Starbucks. And the Barnes and Noble "serving Starbucks coffee" cafe doesn't count. A twenty minute drive south to Nashua, NH and you can even get one at the new drive-through Starbucks.

My husband even wrote Starbucks five years ago to encourage the company to open in our city. He got a form letter that said "Manchester, NH is not in our expansion plans."

:(

AlphaFrog 05-08-2006 02:59 PM

I can't find the exact article, but this one has the same facts that made me give up my Brownie Frappuccinos - 23 grams of Saturated Fat!

Optimist Prime 05-08-2006 03:35 PM

just two or three i think

there are like 4 or 5 in driving distance, maybe 2 or 3 within 5 miles

I had to stop drinking stuff like that though.

The Barnes & Noble's around here have full on Starbucks in them. :D

UofISigKap 05-08-2006 09:29 PM

There are only 5 by me. I don't drink coffee very often, so I often feel stupid when I go into a Starbucks and try to wade through how to order a basic drink.

squirrely girl 05-09-2006 11:57 AM

we have a ton of coffee shops but only 1 starbucks in clarksville and we just got that one last year

ADPiShannan 05-09-2006 12:47 PM

I went to Starbucks store locator and found we have 7 in our area within 10 miles of my zip code. Though 3 of them are in Target stores....

AznSAE 05-09-2006 01:36 PM

there's one on each corner. just like walmart.

Rudey 05-09-2006 01:47 PM

Supposedly people can measure how "nice" your neighborhood is by the number of Starbucks there are in it. The higher the number, the more vibrant (or something like that) and probably expensive it is within the area.

Also, the more storage units you have in an area, the higher the likelihood that area will become expensive in the future.

KSigkid 05-09-2006 01:56 PM

I just checked out the website - apparently there are 62 within a 5 mile radius of my apartment, and 63 within a five mile radius of my office. That's more locations than I thought.

BobbyTheDon 05-09-2006 01:58 PM

I just checked the site. There are 58 billion starbucks within my cock. There are also 90 million storage units within my balls.

Man, I must be one rich motherfhwker!

ShaedyKD 05-09-2006 02:55 PM

Today when I went to Starbucks, a guy robbed it. At least I have a good story to illustrate the elements of robbery on my Crim Law exam.

lagirl33 05-09-2006 04:13 PM

49 within five miles of the dg house here at school

I'll bet that's true in suburban areas, but not so much in the city. For instance, my neighborhood is nice, but it's full of indie coffee shops that pretty much negate the need for a Starbucks. In fact, there are only two Starbucks that are close enough to walk to.

SoCalGirl 05-10-2006 09:12 PM

Tommy Lee has a Star Bucks in his house. Do you think it'll show up on the official Star Bucks locator? Hmmmm.....

ShaedyKD 05-11-2006 01:31 PM

Yesterday at the Starbucks, their cooler for all the bottled drinks was broken. So they had a guy in there trying to repair it in the middle of the day. I was trying to study with my friends for our exam, but the guy started using a blowtorch to weld stuff in the cooler in the middle of the store. Why they couldn't have waited until after hours, I have no idea. I was just waiting for the tank from the blowtorch to explode, or a fire to start, or something else to go horribly wrong.

So my friends and I, being the law school dorks that we are started making up a torts fact pattern revolving around the events of our adventures at Starbucks in the past 2 weeks. I could write a book on this stuff, there's never a dull moment at our Starbucks.

I don't know about around you, but here the Starbucks closes at 10 pm and reopens at 5 or 6am. Good luck finding a repairman who works those hours. And when you do, check the bill, I'm sure it would be 3x what it would be for someone during the day. Plus they ususally keep perishable things in that cooler that I'm sure they didn't want to have to throw away. Things happen, and the store was doing what it could to get it fixed.

The library is usually a nice, quiet place for studying -- rarely do they have blowtorches during finals. :D

It's starbucks. Not some mom and pop shop. Pay the extra cost for a repairman that late and don't put your customers at risk. Besides, if anything did happen then the potential lawsuits definately would have outweighed the cost of a late hour repairman.

NutBrnHair 05-11-2006 02:26 PM

Ooooo -- I bet that's why their stock is down 1.71 today! LOL

Yes, the operation as a whole is very profitable, but each individual store still has a budget and has to stay within it. Plus I'm sure the General/Regional Managers get bonuses for keeping their overhead down.

Once again. If someone happened then No more bonuses, the GM/RM gets fired, Starbucks gets sued.

I sure hope you're not a GM/RM Alphafrog! You'd save company money, but you'd get a buncha people killed!

Eew, I avoid our library at all costs during finals. The crazy people come out.

dzfan 05-11-2006 02:40 PM

Love Starbucks -- can't get the morning without it.

I get a Sugar Free Skim Vanilla Latte...yum yum good.

On my way to work I pass about 4 of them and I am only 3 miles from work...

That sounds like a fancy way of saying that you pay $4 for hot water.:p ;)

A) "someone" would not happen:p

B) He was probably not using a blowtorch, he was probably using a simple butane torch for soldering, which is nothing more then a giant cigarette lighter, which has about a 1% chance in extreme circumstances of blowing up.

kdonline 05-12-2006 02:20 AM

30 Starbucks within 5 miles of my home. And I'm in a suburb of Seattle. My local Starbucks is the only one with a domed roof (I think that's our claim to fame. :) )

I wouldn't be surprised if Starbucks buys Barnies Coffee. They DID buy Seattle's Best Coffee (not sure if the rest of the U.S. has SBC stores like we do?)

BTW, Starbucks purposely builds lots of stores nearby each other in order to keep the lines shorter. ("60 Minutes" did a segment on Starbucks a couple weeks ago & said this.)

Umm I don't know how many there are within the 1 mile radius or 5 mile radius to you. Maybe you should look.

I don't know of an area in Chicago that anyone I know would consider "Nice" that doesn't have a lot of Starbucks shops. If it's somewhere like Wicker Park, the indie coffee shops are not that great and there is a ghetto where people get shot within walking distance of those indie coffee shops. And that's the only place where I think you're referring to. If it's any place downtown or in LP, there are tons so I'm interested in knowing how many the website search shows for you.

Depends on the city - here in Boston, the Starbucks are in the nicer areas (Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Brookline, etc.). There are some indie coffee shops around, but most have been pushed out by Starbucks and Dunkin.

I forgot about Royale - there's one on BU's campus, and it's a pretty big study location. Then again, the Starbucks in the Management School is a good study spot as well.

Ok, do I win some sort of prize for having the most Starbucks in my general vicinity? :p ;)
