Krispy Kreme. Yum. This one girl I know swears as if Dunkin Donuts is the best. I've had Dunkin before, but I forgot what it was like.

Boston Market is good. I like their stuffing, but not so much their chicken . I prefer fried chicken. Popeyes, KFC, Churches is definately for me.

I wish we had more Sonics around :(

Optimist Prime 04-26-2006 12:04 PM

We have Friendly's here, they are okay but used to be much better as a kid.

I think its a place to takes kids, now that I think about it.

Dunkin Donuts is ok, if the donuts are fresh. A big problem is, unlike Krispy Kreme, if you go at night the donuts have been sitting there all day. People in New England love the place though, especially for the coffee. It's ok, but I'm not that huge of a fan.

I was a fan of Krispy Kreme when it first came here, but the novelty wore off (same thing with Quizno's, although I still like their subs). The ones in Massachusetts aren't doing well, though, and the one in Boston just closed recently.

Boston Market is ok; they used to have great chicken salad sandwiches, but the ones around here don't serve them anymore. They have them on the rest stops along the Mass. Pike, so it's a better alternative than McDonalds. They do have good stuffing, and their sandwiches are decent.

I don't think I've ever even THOUGHT about tipping the Sonic people.... I mean... to me it's like any other fast food place... like. I dunno... I also don't get to go there that often as the closest one is about 2 hours away or so. It's very cruel to see late night Sonic commercials and not be able to run out and purchase a limeaid. :(

Dunkin so kicks Krispy Kreme to the curb. I agree with WLFEO, KK is way too sweet. I had one yesterday and had a hard time finishing it. Now that you can get KK in every convenience store & grocery store, the quality isn't the same as when they first came here.

NutBrnHair 04-26-2006 02:19 PM

Geez, I tipped the Sonic girl even after she spilled a strawberry milkshake down the side of my car.

This is why you are my sister.:) You understand.

AGDee 04-26-2006 03:35 PM

Ditto on the Dunkin Donut vs. Krispy Kreme thing. Dunkin Donuts are better than any other donut, Tim Horton, Krispy Kreme, etc.

Powdered sugar jelly filled, the chocolate creme filled, vanilla creme filled and, my alltime fave: chocolate frosted lemon filled. TO DIE FOR!

They tore down the Dunkin near me two weeks and I've been craving them ever since. They are rebuilding something there already (almost immediately!) and rumors are it will be a Dunkin Donut/Baskin Robbins combo store. I want to move in there. Seriously.

polosandpearls 04-26-2006 04:03 PM

I usually just tell the carhop to keep the change. They make around $5.50-7/hr depending on the location PLUS tips. The change will add up at the end of the day. Sometimes they're not just taking the food to cars...they make drinks and take orders as well. I do think if they get to accept tips they should split them with the people that make drinks.

Krispy Kreme is horrible. You can feel the shortening residue in your mouth when you eat the donut or whatever oil type product they use. (lard?) If you want to pay one of your friends to do something sick, you should have them eat a dozen KK donuts.

A lot of the ones in Boston have recently become the combo stores. Everytime I go in for coffee, I always want to get ice cream.

BobbyTheDon 04-26-2006 04:13 PM

I went to the DD website to find the closest DD to me, but there is none. NONE. None if the entire state. What is weird, is that I swear I saw a few DD around here growing up. But I remember eating DD in Boston where there is one in every freakin corner, along with Fleet.

Now I really want to try DD again.

I don't know how you people can hate on Krispey Kreme. Too sweet is awesome. I love em man.

Maybe I like the sweetness more 'cause my metabolism is faster

There. There was my one asshole comment of the day.

How is that an asshole comment? I'm a fat ass and I didn't find anything wrong with it...

It's funny cause everyone acted like it was such a big deal when they finally put a Krispy Kreme in SD. That fad quickly died out.

DeltAlum 05-02-2006 11:07 AM

Back to the original topic. I tip at Sonic -- but not as much as I tip in a "regular" restaurant.

Definitely, although I'm now too much of a J.P. Licks fan to go back to Baskin Robbins (my favorite ice cream place when I lived in CT).

xoheatherxo 05-04-2006 03:00 AM

after reading this thread i totally miss sonic!! the commercials are on here all the time but we dont have a sonic anywhere near here! there was a sonic near my college though and i always tipped. i just always thought i was supposed to! i dont eat the donuts at dunkin donuts, but the new turbo coffees are really good...i get one of those a lot since they have drive throughs there now too!

AlphaFrog 05-04-2006 07:14 AM

I went there the other night to get a Strawberry-Limeaide (they've been advertising them heavily lately and they looked yummy). I had about $3 pulled out because I figured it would be at least $2 and change for a 20 drink. It ended up being $0.64. $0.64!! You can't get a tea for Mcdonalds for that.

christena911 12-12-2008 12:48 PM

DO tip

Sonic Car Hops get the *waitress* minimum wage. which is 3.15/hour. I work at sonic and think its ridiculous we get the waitress minimum wage even tho people don't even know they're supposed to tip, and they shouldn't have to tip since its a fast food place. Yet, that's the way it is. But when you do the math 15% of a 5.00 meal would only be .75 cents to tip.

It was probably happy hour..from 2-4 every day drinks are half priced.

Correction: Carhops USED to get paid minimum wage but they changed it and they now get the *WAitress* minimum wage which is 3.15/hour.:)

catiebug 12-12-2008 01:18 PM

I saw last night on TV that Sonic has brought back the chicken-fried steak sandwich! Yea!!!

MSKKG 12-12-2008 04:23 PM

Went to Sonic for Happy Hour today. Got a Route 44 iced tea for $1.07--LOVE their ice. Didn't tip because I went through the drive-thru, but I will usually tip if I park and order.

Kevin 12-12-2008 04:34 PM

My wife's band (she's a HS band teacher) works at Sonic as a fund raiser. From what I understand, the carhops make above minimum wage.

I don't tip. It's fast food, all they did was bring me food. That, in my estimation, isn't really tip worthy.

I also use the drive through most of the time.

FALSE. carhops make exactly minimum wage. i made 5.15 as a carhop.

also, yes all you see them do is bring you your food, but there's a lot more waitress-y type things carhops get stuck with. many take your order, make your drinks, ice cream, shakes, bag the food, keep all kinds of stuff stocked, do side work like waitresses do (ie stuff napkins into bags, sweep the lot, take out the stupid "smile tray").

what always shocked me when i worked there was that i'd get huge tips from people paying 2-5 bucks for something, but the $60 orders wouldn't tip at all. and it's really hard to spend 60 at sonic, it's a lot of freaking food, balancing etc.

It might be false where you worked at, but some places do pay higher than minimum wage.

Every fast food type place has those "waitress-y" things to do. I did those things when I worked at Coldstone and I never expected a tip.

Congratulations. You did exactly what every other person at every other fast food joint in the world does except you have to walk out to the customer's car sometimes.

I know exactly what Sonic workers have to do... I've spent plenty of time standing around in the kitchen area (getting in the way) when my wife's band kids were doing their fund raiser.

I had friends who worked at places like Taco Bell and Burger King who did the exact same things you're explaining. Isn't that what most fast food workers are asked to do?

I worked there in high school...

I was doing the work of a fast food restaurant worker. I did NOT expect big tips as a carhop. After all, I was making more than 2.13 an hour.

Really, you DON'T work as hard as a true waitress does (I worked my ass off as a real waitress at Cracker Barrel). Most carhops just hop. Sometimes, you will get pulled into another spot in the line making shakes, etc.

If you are one of the hops in my hometown that skates, I'll tip your ass for entertaining me. But, if you are one of the lazy ones around here who doesn't stock her tray with condiments and then gets bitchy when I ask for ketchup, it is NADA.

Waitresses work MUCH harder.

I actually really enjoyed being a waitress despite the "work" (as opposed to being a desk jockey), and if I could make the kind of money waitressing that I make at my current job, I'd totally do that.

IlovemyAKA 12-13-2008 07:05 PM

I didn't realize people tipped at Sonic until I worked there my senior year of high school. I wore skates, so I got tips. It was fun & made me stand out because most don't do skates anymore. I got more (unintentionally) from guys who tried to get my number.

I don't know who is from AR but we would give out Wild River Country coupons near the summer. I got the biggest tip from the General Manager of Wild River Country because I gave him a coupon. :D

WinniBug 12-13-2008 07:28 PM

I actually plan to tip when I go to Sonic, but since they have the credit card machines now, I don't have the option....
And I had a craving for Sonic last night, so I had a supersonic cheeseburger, chili cheese tots and a lemon berry slush....yyuuummmm There were 3 carhops working, one walking around, one on skates and one on rollerblades. The ones on skates got to the cars quite a bit quicker than the walker. :-)

Which one did you go to? If you go to the Exit One Sonic, don't keep your windows down much. The sewer smell will knock you over. And, there is always a pond of "water" in the field behind them.

I still get stuff there, because it is one of the cleanest kept ones other than the smell from the field behind them and it is close to my house.

Not all Sonics do this. It depends on the franchise owner. The ones here still make min. wage.

I actually went to the one in southern Dickson County on the other side of I-40...We were on our way to Hickman County for a ball game...it was too cold to leave our windows down for too long anyways.

I always tip even it it is only about 60 cents.
