TTT/Opinion on why Rep. Ford lost his race
Disclaimer: This is an AfAm moderate/conservative blog, which I suspect may offend a lot of people reading this. But I think she has a poin t -- read some of the comments, which are pretty interesting.

I think some folks in Tennessee chose not to vote for him because he is unmarried and has a tough time with commitment or settling down... In no way am I implying that he is all the playboy folks make him out to be--no, rather, he ain't got the game to keep a woman, period... Most folks in Tennessee are also conservative in how their public officials ought to live their personally lives. I suspect most folks do not like that free-for-all, free-living-together-until-whenever, West Coast flower child beatnik tree hugging they so euphemistically like to call us ;) ... If Mr. Ford was married with a 3 year old and one on the way, homie would have been elected. And his wife would dayum near have to be "passe blanc", but be down with her roots... So, I have heard on the grapevine... Don't be shocked if homie shows up at all OUR events... 'Cuz that's the kind of woman I've been told he's looking for... ;) |

But homegirl has to know that he will NOT be faithful and will cheat on you... Her only job is to crank the kiddies out... |

Yes, I can see HF with one of our sorors. |

I know someone whose grandparent is believed to be a white person passing for black. This grandparent grew up in Louisiana and was somehow told she was Creole or something of that sort. She looks like a "white complexioned black person" and they joke about her really being white. I've found many whites who look black and blacks who look white (such as some of the blacks in my family from generations past). It wasn't that uncommon for blacks in the South to pass for white either inadvertently or intentionally. I suppose it isn't too farfetched for whites to do the same in some instances.

Ford needs to log onto GC so he can't stop AKA_Monet from further hurting his political career.

I'd thought passing was in the past, but I know of a couple of recent cases -- both decently well-known people in New York circles. I'm talking of Anatole Broyard, the writer, and a real estate broker named Alice Mason.

I stumbled upon this article. Maybe his grandmother is just like the gentleman mentioned in this article. Perhaps there is a small possibility she wasn't Black and just didn't know it. If Ford feels the need to claim his grandmother was passing (though I have no idea why it really matters or why he feels the need to state this publicly) perhaps he should take a test to prove what percentage of his heritage is of African descent.
http://www.alternet.org/story/16917/ As far as him looking for one of OUR sorors as marriage material...who can blame him;)lol...Though that whole I'm going to play the field while you have the kiddies is played out...I don't know how he's going to pull that off. Clinton couldn't do it and from what y'all are saying on this Forum he doesn't have a tenth of Clinton's game. |
Wow @ the article. There are probably a lot of people this same situation and do not know. Very interesting.

The article is very misleading. Because this man only inherited one half of each parent's DNA (and they inherited only one half from each of their parents, and so on), he could be (and likely is) of African descent. This type of DNA test does not show it, because the African was simply "washed out", so to speak. In Ford's case, he should not get a DNA test, he should get a grip. :p |
Harold Ford married this weekend
I posted this story on my blog and already have some (ahem) - interesting comments about his new spouse.
|
The discussion is quite interesting.

Setting aside the obvious, they look like such the odd couple. He is quite handsome in a traditional, reserved, stuffy, nerdy kind of way (with that side part - what is that about?). By contrast, she looks like a California beach, let it all hang out person. I have to say that I was surprised at her looks. I thought he would have picked a drop dead gorgeous woman (no matter the race). Maybe it's just the pic that I saw but ... she doesn't appear to be anywhere near drop dead gorgeous. Is she rich? Old money by chance?

They look related to me.
The pic in that blog isn't too flattering for either. But they are both attractive people. |

DSTChaos, can you give me the blog url? I couldn't find it referenced on Greekchat. Maybe I was searching in the wrong threads.

Ms. Emily may be a relative of one of the Morgan Stanley founders. She contributed $4100 to Harold Ford, Jr's campaign for Senator. As soon as I learn more, I'll share with those who are interested. Film at five...:) |
I was not surprised at all by his choice.
