I was checking that out. What is the deal with those high tickets? I thought that I could get them much cheaper, since I started looking in January, but that hasn't been the case at all. :(

DSTCHAOS 02-03-2006 12:49 PM

The plane tickets are a C-O-N-spiracy against the Deltas.

I guess I should get my tickets soon, too, since everyone else seems on the ball. We were busy looking for a hotel room and finally found something.

Do you have an account with expedia? They usually have good rates. Try Delta.com. (My favorite airline. :D) Also, find out which airline has a hub, in or near the city you live in. You can get cheaper flights if there is a hub in or near your city.

Thank GOD, I'll be doing the 2 hour drive up to Illidelphia :D I can't wait. Need to work on the room(s).

Sorors I cannot believe that my top three hotel choices for the convention are already full. I think that we are going to set another attendance record at this convention.

Which hotels?

Ms Public Service 03-17-2006 01:21 PM

The Philadelphia Marriott, Loews Philadelphia, Hilton Garden, Courtyard Marriott, Doubletree, Embassy Suites Center City, Hampton Inn, and the Ritz Carlton hotels are already booked full for double beds. The Courtyard Marriott, Residence Inn, Radisson Plaza Warwick are allowing Sorors to sign up on their waiting listing for double beds.

We are staying at the Alexander Inn.

I knew the more in demand hotels would be booked already so we made our reservation about a month ago.

I'm not sure the hotel "bookings" indicate record attendance. No offense to my Philly sorors, but it does not have the draw that other cities have and this is an incumbent re-election year for the two top officers.

This hotel situation happened during the regional cycle conference, and it was a glitch in the Housing Bureau's system. My guess it is the same here. There is no way that many hotels could get fully booked within 24 hours with the number of rooms we block.

What happens is two-fold: sorors book rooms in multiple hotels and then later release them. Or sorors book rooms for just part of the convention, i.e. Fri.-Sun. That breaks up the block, and when a soror tries to register for the whole convention the system comes back and says there are no rooms available for that contiguous amount of time that you are asking for. Thus the Housing Bureau has to readjust the room blocks.

My guess is that those hotels will open back up within a couple of weeks.

They'd better, because I can't get a room either, and some of y'all know I really need one! :D

Ms Public Service 03-17-2006 03:22 PM

How far is this hotel from the convention center.

I hope some better rooms open up soon because I had to make reservations at the stupid Holiday Inn.

^^^ LOL @ stupid Holiday Inn.

CrimsonTide4 03-17-2006 03:38 PM

The Holiday Inn is the cheapest.

I still cannot even get online to register. :(

The hotel is located in Center City Philadelphia and the convention center website said that is a 15 minute walk.

Gina1201 03-18-2006 12:55 AM

My LS could not register us for a hotel either. Since I REFUSE to walk in the heat and end up all sweaty, I made our reservations at Travelodge. Plus side: it's close and inexpensive. I just hope its inexpensiveness does not backfire on us.

Next up: registration!!

Knowing Philly, I booked at the Marriott Courtyard. Its about 2 blocks away from the Convention Center. In downtown Philly, the blocks are relatively short so most of the hotels listed, except for the Embassy Suites and the Ritz Carlton, which are both on the other side of City Hall, are very close.

PEARLS4ME 03-18-2006 09:42 PM

I am at the Marriott Courtyard too :D . I hope to meet and greet you Soror. Considered the Wyndham(it is so beautiful) but did not know how long the blocks were in Philly and 5 city blocks could be quite a distance

ladygreek 03-18-2006 11:08 PM

The hotels on the list that are further than three blocks will have free shuttle service.

DST4A00 03-19-2006 12:50 AM

hopefully, I still gotta register

RedAngel 03-19-2006 10:59 AM

I just registered and my line sister was able to get us into the Loews.

So they must have opened up some rooms because when I booked my hotel last Wednesday afternoon, I think that was one of the hotels that was already booked.

For what dates?

The Loew's is still closed for the dates I want, Fri-Thursday. But I am just being patient at this point.

Actually my line sister registered just as registration started and was able to get into the Loew's. We were able to get Thursday through Wednesday. I registered after she confirmed that we had the room. I was getting ready to look for rooms when she told me that we were confirmed at the Loew's. I heard how tough it is to get a room.

Oh, then that was before it closed. But wait how did she do that? The link to the Housing Bureau was broken. Did she go directly to the Loew's website?

My LS's and I found a hotel right around the corner from the airport. Fairfield Inn- It's 6-7 miles from the Convention Center. (20 mins according to the hotel lady) I think it's about 120 per night. Inititially we were worried about transportation but the clerk at the hotel said they have a local train that runs every 30 mins and makes a stop directly in front of the Convention Center. We also considered renting a car as an alternate but I think we gon' be some "train riding" sistas!!! *shrugs*

Don't rent. Because in addition to the rental fees, you have to pay to park and gas. :)

I'm glad you are coming. :D

Ditto on not renting. But make sure to find out the time that the train stops running, if it does.

Soror Chaos,

Not sure if you are still in NC but I was able to find a flight to Philly from Charlotte for $183 round trip including taxes courtesy of Yahoo Travel and Delta Airlines. :D

I have not purchased the ticket yet. April 7th is my day to do it all. :)

The train that runs downtown from the airport is a commuter train but it looks like it runs all day until midnight. Here is the link to the commuter train system

Thanks for the heads-up. I am booking a multiple-cities flight because Philly is just one of the stops my linesisters and I are making during Convention. I believe my flight should also be under $200 if I book it this week. :)

I'm very sad, because I'll be in Long Beach for business! :( :(
