That's such a cute way to offer a bid, so special and personal. :)

I don't think they're considered "rounds" anymore. I know they've just basically made their house open to PNM's (lunch, dinner, movie after dinner, etc) and if you're not able to attend, they said they could schedule something like coffee with a few of the sisters. Regardless, I'm not sure of the time schedule, but I like that this is informal. I get to experience a real sorority dinner and I'm not on a 20 minute time limit. And we can't forget the wonderful lack of pressure!

Anyways, I'm off to my second night of dinner and I'll be sure to ask the RC specifics of the procedures (bids given out randomly or all at once, etc.) since we're all a little in the dark! Plus I'd like to be able to clear it up on the board since I almost feel like I've done something wrong.

no one knows that,ie-desperate sorority-the recruitment chairperson most likely is new to her position, and might not realize that she should be a little more discreet. i'll bet that she really likes christi, and wants to let her know that.

you have not done anything wrong, christi. have fun tonite, and don't pay us any mind.

I think you also have to understand that this is Spring Recruitment and it's extremely informal. For all they know, I could be using them for a free dinner! The RC asked if I was wanting to pledge now, or if I was just checking out the scene for Fall, and was happy to hear I was too excited to wait (so long as I found the place I was meant to be).

Since they could only gouge my wanting to join on how many times I decide to visit, maybe she said that because I needed to make her aware of if I thought Chocolate was the place I wanted to be. In other words, "We're not going to offer you a bid if you don't take the initiative to show this is where you want to be, and now is when you want to join." Perhaps talking to her and saying "I feel like this is where I want to be" is the only way of letting the girls know I'm serious so they can get serious about talking about me and discussing whether to give me a bid or not. Otherwise, I'm just a waste of their time.

Actually, knowing what I know now, I hereby retract my comment. :p

FSUZeta 01-24-2006 05:55 PM

i'll bet that is exactly what the situation is. you are there, and we are just reading between the lines-you know best what is going on.

adpiucf 01-24-2006 06:04 PM

Good luck and have fun. Do share with your rushers your feelings and intent!! Have a great time!

33girl 01-24-2006 06:08 PM

Yes, I'm in no way ragging on this sorority, it's just the way it is being reported that's how it sounds.

christi86 01-24-2006 10:44 PM

Again, an amazing night of dinner and a movie. Dinner was lasagna, mmm, and the movie was adorable. I asked the RC after dinner how bidding works. Basically, they invite you to the first night to get to know you. If they enjoyed your company, they invite you back the second night, but by then, they kinda know if they want you or not. After that, they're free to give you a bid.

With that said...

I'm going to assume now is safe to tell you a few more details about my "bid day" because I was the first girl to receive a bid and they wanted to keep it a secret from the other girls who were rushing.

After dinner, we went to the living room to watch Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and midway through, we had an "intermission" for popcorn and apples with dip. I excused myself to the bathroom and when I walked out, the RC and COB Chair whispered my name and told me they wanted to show me a room down the hall. It was the "Parent's Room" and the explained how if you ever needed to crash somewhere, that the couch was open. The RC then looked over at the counter next to her and I looked over too (go figure, the first thing I saw was a basket of Baby Ruth's!). There was a little white envelope with my name on it. I was so excited that I don't remember exactly what she said, but it dealt with how she knew the moment we met that I was perfect for the sorority and that they would like to extend a bid to me. I didn't even look in the envelope! I was all smiles when I told them I wanted to accept right then. They were smiling like crazy also and both hugged me and welcomed me :)

They asked me to kinda keep it a secret for now, since I was the first to get a bid, so I put my bid in my purse and went to the dining room for popcorn. The RC told her grand little, a girl I'd met the day before and the captain of the dance team, that I was now a Phi and she ran up and hugged me :) A few of the sisters were told I was a new Phi when they were alone with another sister and they congratulated and hugged me. They waited until the last PNM left before they gave me my bid day pack (SO EXCITING!) and making me a small calendar of events before Phi Meetings begin :) They told me I was invited to the house whenever I wanted to come...lunch, dinner, to study. I was so ecstatic, I smiled just about the whole night. It was hard to go through half a movie wanting to tell the world you just accepted a bid!

I love how girls I don't even know yet congratulated and hugged me, it made me feel so welcome. And they were equally as excited! The RC sent me a facebook message that night telling me how she couldn't stop smiling :)

I have to admit, it's going to take a little getting used to. I've spent about 6 months without these girls, and now I'm looking forward to immersing myself in new friendships and fun :) I know my pledge class won't be even close to a Fall one, but I think that will make it easier on us and the sisters, especially learning names! And maybe it will give us the opportunity to bond better than other classes :)

All in all, I'm super excited. I can't wait to go back to the house and hang out with my new sorority. I'm looking forward to Phi Meetings, Big Sis Reveal, and Initiation looks like it's set exactly 2 months from now!

alum 01-25-2006 11:55 PM

That is wondrful!!!!
Again, congrats to you AND your sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AGDLynn 01-26-2006 12:01 AM

Congratulations and hope you have a wonderful time!!

If you're ever going up I-85 just south of Atl, stop by Peachtree City to the new Phi Mu HQ:cool:

FSUZeta 01-26-2006 08:05 AM

christi, thanks for sharing with us how you received your bid. i got goosebumps! i can imagine how hard it must be to keep it under your hat, when you want to shout it from the rooftops.

DO go over to the house as much as you can. the sisters want you there, and you will definately feel more a part of the sorority.
eat as many of your meals there as you can.

as more girls are added to the rank of phi, your new member meetings will get going and that will be one more thing to look forward to.

adpiucf 01-26-2006 10:43 AM

Congratulations!!!

This is just heartwarming. It can change college so much to have that home where you know you are always welcome, whether it's a physical building or not. It means a lot when you never have to ask whether you can join in -- you simply know that there's a spot with your name on it, always.

christi86 01-26-2006 02:17 PM

I know, it's cool to know I don't have to go home and sit and wait alone until my roommate gets out of class. I can go hang out with these amazing girls :)

Miss Moderator deleted mine and valkyrie's posts questioning the validity of the events that transpired during her rush.

If it gets deleted, fine. Good thing there are other avenues to discuss similar topics. :)
