The next rounds aren't until January.

GtownGirl98 11-21-2005 12:48 AM

I like the idea... I know that it would have saved some big headaches for me and my roommates in college. I love sleeping in the cold... cuddling under lots of blankets. Only thing is that I don't want to get out in the morning.... I guess that is why I love my ceiling fan in the winter.... hubby not so much.

RRC good luck with finals and the next few months of waiting...

Could someone explain about the DCI?

Thanks...

Buttonz 11-21-2005 02:09 PM

Good luck to your cousin!

There is no way I'd ever be able to handle a sleeping porch...I guess having my own room my whole life, I find it hard enough to share with one other girl, forget about more!

irishpipes 11-21-2005 07:38 PM

I know at Illinois there was at least one house that had both a warm dorm and a cold dorm - I can't remember which sorority or sororities (our house had neither - trundle beds baby!!) Maybe zillini,AOIIgal, deltabetababy, or UofISigKap would know? Help me out here fellow Illini!

Sigma Kappa at Illinois has a cold dorm...but it wasn't always fully used. When the house wasn't filled to maximum capacity, there was plenty of room for beds in the individual rooms, so people only used the cold dorm if they wanted to. Sometimes only five people would move their beds to the cold dorm and sometimes it was more like 20. Sorry I don't know about the rest of the houses. :(

Sister Havana 11-22-2005 12:58 AM

Chi Omega does not have a cold dorm, per my cousin.

AXiDBelle 11-23-2005 02:04 PM

I LOVE THAT YOU USE DCI NAMES! As a Pioneer alum when I much younger (I was a member of the 1994 Division II World Champion crew), I thought this was the coolest yet! So, glad she liked Pioneer! Can't wait until January!

That's awesome, AxiDBelle! What did you play/do?

gphiangel624 12-03-2005 11:33 PM

Definitely one of the most creative (in my opinion) for names of chapters... I haven't kept up with DCI since after I graduated from high school, but I have to keep my hopes up for the Blue Devils and SCV since I've had several friends in both groups over the past few years

Good luck to your cousin, and keep us updated!

ZetaGirl22 12-08-2005 01:06 AM

Ohhhh, I LOVE sleeping in a chilly room!!!!! Getting all snuggly in your blankets!!!!! I dont think I could handle sleeping in a room with so many, though. What if someone snores!!!!!!!!! I need it to be absolutely silent when I sleep.

jojo7471 12-24-2005 08:45 PM

I am rushing at IU and we were told under no circumstances were we to wear high heels with out t-shirts and jeans. it was uggs or tennis shoes. The house are so spread apart at IU that I would have died wearing anything but tennis shoes.

and the shirts were black long sleave that were too small for everyone.

believe me, 19-party is not the most fun thing, I had the same conversation 3 times at each house.

most hosue (even new ones) have the cold dorm system here.

Is rush here that competative? Half the girls don't make it, but it's mostly because they are unable to get a 2.6 by the end of their first semester here. that's pretty sad condsidering a 2.6 is like a c average or somehting. many girls aren't comming back to finish.

LuvUTrulyKKG 12-25-2005 01:34 AM

Jojo... good luck going through recruitment (if you do decide to continue as I hope you will from reading a previous thread)! A word of caution... you never know who is reading this thread so choose your words wisely! Good luck and let us know how everything works out!:)

Sister Havana 12-25-2005 04:14 AM

The houses I know for sure that do not have cold dorms are AEPhi, Zeta, Chi O, DZ, and KD. I think AOPi doesn't either, but they lived in a different house when I rushed (that house is now the School of Informatics) and I've never been in the new one. AXiD and Tri-Delt have both cold dorms and sleeping rooms. The others all do the cold dorm thing, I think.

bruinaphi 12-25-2005 03:23 PM

We had a sleeping porch when I was in school, but it was indoors, not really a porch in anything but name. We didn't have AC in the house, so it wasn't really a cold dorm, but I loved sleeping there my freshman year when I spent the night at the house. We voted to get rid of it at the end of my freshman year and turned it into one five girl room and one six girl room, so by the time I moved into the house everyone slept in their bedroom.

jojo7471 12-28-2005 11:34 AM

KD has sleep rooms and day rooms. Four girls share them. It is like a mini-cold dorm.

Chi-O has wings with sleep studies, but I don't think we saw them.

AOPi does not have cold dorms. They have 6, 4, and i believe 2 (correct me if i'm wrong)

I think they also have the largest house on campus.

Almost all the houses had cold dorms. I always thought that cold dorms were for houses that were old converted mansions, but since many new houses are built with them, I guess it must be a better system

I wouldn't mind living in one, but I know they mentioned that someone has to do "wake-ups" and wake up at 5 am and wake everyone else up (not too crazy about that)lol

Tom Earp 12-28-2005 06:35 PM

That is Nice to hear.

But, I lived in a Dungeon with a GLO Local that Afilliated with a National. It was kind of fun at the time=60s.

But, what is the shame is that is not understood today in The Me Generation=Suites and all of The I am to cool!:(

How Much Fun is really Missed in intermingling?

Everything seems to be join and be treated like Homeys with MaMa and Daddy taking care of You!

That is what Greeks are all about, being together!

Well, the alternative is letting everyone use alarm clocks! I rather wake up at 5 twice a semester than have to deal with 15 alarm clocks every morning.

jojo7471 12-28-2005 11:42 PM

i understand the logic.

one girl in another house told me everyone has reverted to puting their cell phones on vibrate in their pillows. apparently it's the new system.

Duchovnysfan 12-29-2005 06:44 AM

Wow, I'm excited to hear what happens next. Good luck to your cousin, from one PNM to another I hope she finds a house that she enjoys.

The talk about houses is interesting b/c @ LMU, we do not have a row or houses for the Greeks. *sorry to barge about that, I just wanted to put it out there* :D

I use my cell phone as my alarm clock now...and I am not even in college anymore!

Love it love it love it.

I went to Purdue and this never happened that I have heard of. I know that none of the girls in my rush group had this happen. Matter of fact we were told we could not meet with girls. If we did we would be dropped. I know athlete's that could not hangout with girls on the team b/c someone might consider it dirty rushing.

Sister Havana 01-03-2006 11:06 AM

Here's the schedule for this week:

First Invite- January 4 & 5, 2006
Second Invite- January 6, 2006
Preference Round- January 7, 2006
Bid Day- January 8, 2006

apsb1000 01-03-2006 07:22 PM

I am rushing tomorrow and I am so excited! I don't know If I will join, but I am excited for rush!

RedRoseSAI 01-05-2006 12:21 AM

First invites, night 1 of 2

I'm sorry this won't be one of the very detailed rush threads that everyone loves to read (I walked into the Tri-Gamma house and was immediately handed a cranberry scone by a sister in an ivory colored ballgown. Their "princess" theme was emphasized by the enormous Swarovski chandeliers above and thick red carpeting below) as my cousin is not terribly verbose. I also want to protect her anonymity, as we all know the arm of GC is far-reaching. Plus, she's so tired at the end of these days that I don't want to push her for lots of information.

She was cut from several of her top choices, but not Carolina Crown, which was her #2! Today she visited:

Cavaliers - still definitely not interested in them
Blue Devils - not really her style, but she kind of likes them
Seattle Cascades - said she liked them. They and Cavaliers did a similar theme, and Seattle seemed to do a much better job.
Troopers - did nothing for her. They used a very popular theme that she said was sort of cute, but she didn't connect with the girls themselves.

Tomorrow she'll visit Carolina Crown, Phantom Regiment, Colts, and two other houses that I can't remember (sorry!).

apsb1000 01-05-2006 12:38 AM

well, your cousin fared better than I did. I only got three invites and honestly I didn't pick any of them and one was my legacy (which I am not 100% sure about yet)

I guess I'm not the only one who didn't get 12 invites then?

If you care about your recruitment experience AT ALL, for the love of God, ENOUGH ALREADY.

You don't know who might be reading this. I'll bet $$$ that lots of girls from IU lurk here, especially during rush to see if their house is being talked about.

Put it this way:

We know what campus you're at.
We know you're a legacy as your sister's a member of a house there.
We know your sister's house because you've already posted in their forum.

It doesn't take a Sherlock to figure out your identity, even if it's IU.

If I were a girl in your legacy house or the other two houses you were invited back to, I'd think twice about extending you another invite because, well, it just doesn't seem like you want to be there...just because you're bitter and didn't get more invites like the other girls did.

Just sayin'.

apsb1000 01-05-2006 06:04 PM

I'll be on the look out for matching t-shirts and vera bradley bags.

PenguinTrax 01-05-2006 06:09 PM

Since IU does not use a quota system, the chapters are very heavy-handed when it comes to cuts. If you got even one invite, consider yourself very lucky. From what I've heard, less than 50% of the girls that start Recruitment at IU end up with a bid. And yes, this issue has been discussed many times on GC, so just do a search.

Keep an open mind and be sincerely interested at parties. You may ultimately decide not to join, but then it will be an option instead of not receiving a bid. I can guarantee that being Greek is a wonderful experience that will last you a lifetime if you want it to. Best wishes and let us know how everything turns out.

Since I'm not an NPC girl, I'm not sure I understand this. I know there's been a million threads about the quota system, but do you know of one that specifically talks about schools that do not use the quota system, and what the ramifications are?

Angels&Arrows 01-05-2006 06:48 PM

RedRoseSAI, I believe IU does quota individually, based on spaces available in the chapter.

I wouldn't doubt it, especially since Rush is going on.

We've seen it happen before!

Too bad their website is "under construction" or I'd ask them myself.
