In the 80s I went to a few Depeche Mode concerts.....and then somehow almost 20 years flew by and I am going to see them in December in NYC. The new album is awesome and for some reason, even though it has not been released yet, you can listen to it at

Wow I was only 3 when the 80's ended...sad. I may not be child of the 80's, but I'm a product of the 80's!!!

Okay now what about the neon pink mini skirts with lime green polka dots - can't forget that fashion statement.
Of course there was also the sight of girls wearing pumps with their jeans. All the one hit wonders of the 80's. Good old MTV VJs Downtown Julie Brown and Martha (can't remember her name but she does an 80 music commercial now). ON TV - the first cable system in Los Angeles that I remember. The Tshirts that we tied up using a little plastic round belt buckle thing (old age is catching up to me I can't remember what they were called). Fame the TV series - I used to love that show. Wish some station would pick it up in syndication. |
Different Strokes
Lite Bright (I still have one :p) L.A. Gears (mine were the white ones w/pink & silver shoelaces) Double Dare (An old TV show for kids) 16 Candles & Valley Girl (I finally get all the jokes & sexual overtones that I completely missed as a kid watching that w/my older sisters) |

-Dynasty (the Alexis and Krystle catfights are classic)
-Fun House (J.D. Roth was (and still is) a hottie) -Finders Keepers (the screaming kids) -Care Bears -My Little Pony (I had my My Little Pony lunchbox, ponies, and video) -Tina Turner's booming solo career -We are the World, we are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day so let's start giving There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day Just you and me -My Buddy and Kid Sister -Gloworms -California Dreams Barbie -Barbie and the Rockers -Barbie and the Sensations -Jane Fonda workout -torn sweatshirts at the collar -Star Search |
One more thing:
PEE WEE'S PLAYHOUSE! |
Wearing black bolero hats a la Ms Gibson
Fingerless gloves, a la Madonna Shredded jeans Spectravision and On TV - the precursors to cable! Friday Night Videos Wired, not wireless, remotes Dangermouse on Nickelodeon Sweet Valley High books (with illustrations on the cover, not photos of the TV actors) Jelly bracelets - I remember looping two together so it would look like you were wearing a bracelet and a ring. That hurt! Tinted moose for your hair - there was a gold one for blonde hair and a red one for brunettes. I also remember when the first CD player came out, and the day that a strange "VHS" section popped up at our local video store. I think the 80s are a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live then (again). |
Ooh, I forgot...
Guess? Jean jackets Liz Claiborne purses ...If you weren't sporting those at my school in 1987, your ass got kicked (or at least ridiculed). |
Judy Blume books!

Just watched "Risky Business" on AMC. Joel opens a beer that has a pull off tab rather than a pop top, and he wears top siders with no socks throughout the movie. Oh, and Tom Cruise was normal back then.

I have to admit, I NEVER liked Tom Cruise! He was always just... full of himself, I guess. |

TV dinners that you heated in the oven for 45 minutes.

Or frozen entrees that came in boil-in-bags. It was all I ate freshman year, since the dorm did not yet have a microwave.
