Congrats to you and
SIGMA CHI

Jestor 09-11-2005 01:16 AM

Thanks guys! :) I just got back from the party at the house, since it's been a long time since I've been socially active and I'm gradually working my way up to a full head of steam.

Tonight I knew more than ever that Sigma Chi is where I belong. My brothers (well I suppose to be full brothers after I get initiated :D) were all happy to see me and chatted with me.

Not to get off track here, but I do have a slight etiquette question. Is it improper to wear fraternity gear while still a pledge? My intuition tells me I should wait until I become a full member before sporting the Sig Chi apparel, but I figured I'd ask anyway. :)

Buttonz 09-11-2005 01:23 AM

Just wanted to say congrats :)

As for your question, I know the only thing I was allowed to wear was Sigma Delta Tau written out in English on my pledge class shirt.

polarpi 09-11-2005 04:11 AM

Congratulations, Jestor!

In regards to your question, I can't obviously answer for fraternities in general, but my sorority allowed us to wear "stiched" letters and the full Greek letters from the moment we became new members. One of the best people to ask would probably be your new member ("pledge") educator...any other help here, guys? :)

Congrats again!

trojangal 09-11-2005 08:01 AM

Jestor,

Congratulations on Sigma Chi! It was nice hearing a rush story from a guy's point of view. I know several Sigma Chis, and they are wonderful men.

Enjoy your house and your new brothers!

tinydancer 09-11-2005 09:59 AM

Congratulations! I have really enjoyed your thread.

Sigma Chi daughter here!

Generally - you'll need to consult with your chapter to see what you can and cannot wear as a pledge - items with the coat of arms or other symbols that distinguish an initiated member of a fraternity from a pledge is a big no-no. In Freemasonry, Entered Apprentice and Fellowcraft members are asked to refrain from wearing or displaying the Square and Compasses until one has been raised to Master Mason.

Congrats on Sigma Chi :) They were great guys on my campus, and Derby Days was always one of the most fun weeks of the year. Wear the cross proudly!

Congratulations to you and Sigma Chi!! I really enjoyed your story and reading about recruitment from a guy's perspective.

Glad to hear you are excited about Sigma Chi.

Once you accept a bid from Sigma Chi, from that point on you are considered a Sigma Chi pledge and may wear shirts, etc., with the words "SIGMA CHI" or "SIGS" but not the Greek letters Sigma Chi (a national regulation).

However, before you run out and get shirts etc., please do as AlphaSigOU suggested and consult with your chapter. Most likely you will either be given shirts and/or told which ones are suitable for purchase.

Jestor 09-11-2005 03:25 PM

Thanks for the clarifications and congratulations, everyone. :)

And I most certainly will ask the chapter at tonight's Pledge meeting what precisely their rules and regulations on shirts, et. al. are. :)

Enjoy Your Trip through Pledgeship, learn and have a great time!

Congratulations on Sigma Chi! This thread made me happy, since we don't see many fraternity rush threads around here. :)

Onward to Three Musketeers, which confirmed their Animal House stereotype in every way possible. The odd thing is, I actually got to really like these guys during this visit, especially after... well, I'm going to have to wait to tell you this story until after I finalize my bid. They invited me to go along with them partying, but I ended up declining. Still, I have to say these guys shot up from the back of the pack to #4. Excellent leap forward.

So, what did they do they got excited about that you couldn't say before?!?!?!

Congrats - Sigma Chi is a great organization.

Wow, a guy's rush thread! I think this was the only rush thread I've read in its entirety this fall...really cool. It was fun to hear about everything from a guy's perspective, since everything's so different. :) Congratulations, by the way!

Jestor 09-11-2005 11:30 PM

Again, thank you one and all! :)

As for the 3 Musketeers story, I couldn't tell it because if anybody from that particular chapter came on here, they'd know it was them instantly and I didn't want to ruin any bid chances out there with any fraternity if I could help it. :D

So here's the story:

I'm hanging out at the 3 Musketeers house and the president's girlfriend shows up. I take a few sniffs of the air because I think I recognize the scent that's in the air. Sure enough, I do.

So I turn to the Prez's girl and grin, "You're wearing Passionate Kisses."

"Oh my god! Yes, I am! That's so awesome that you knew that!"

So naturally the rushers standing nearby, the President, his girlfriend, and the two friends of the girlfriend all wanted to know how I knew what scent she was wearing.

"Oh, I work at Victoria's Secret in my hometown", I casually reply.

"...We have GOT to keep this guy around!" exclaims El Presidente.

:D It was hilarious, especially seeing the envy/worship/admiration in the eyes of the rest of the guys. It's a reaction I often get from my fellow men when I reveal my place of employment back home.

And I think that's why I got the 3 Musketeers bid was because of that. :)

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-12-2005 12:03 AM

That is pretty funny.

I don't think I've ever seen a guy working at any VS.

UCFStefanie 09-12-2005 06:42 AM

Yup I had a few male friends who worked stock at VS!!! It does happen

Denise_DPhiE 09-12-2005 02:23 PM

OK, now I am starting to BELIEVE this thread was a HOAX! Too many hilarious stories!

Well, maybe not but is sure was a good one!!!

Denise

Jestor 09-12-2005 02:48 PM

Most VS stores do have at least one guy working there, actually. In the one back home, we've got actually got two, myself and then a guy who joined us during the summer.

Basically my duties involve stocking, visual merchandising (setting up displays and the like), and, what is actually probably my biggest role because I'm one of the best in the store at it, selling beauty (perfumes, lotions, splashes, etc.) Ocassionally I fill in at cash register too when there's a shortage and a long line, and I've even managed to sell a few bras and diagnose a woman's bra problem successfully. That last one made me feel aces. :D

But the precise role of a guy in a store will generally depend on its size. From what I've given to understand from talking to girls who work at other stores, at larger locations, stocking and visual merchandising is pretty much *all* they do. Medium and smaller stores, they have a lot broader range of duties.

BetteDavisEyes 09-12-2005 03:01 PM

Any guy who can solve a bra problem is o.k. in my book :D
