I don't know if I am bothered by this or not.

On one hand, you have missing prisoners (including those that were in the local jail) and sex offenders who had it not been for Katrina, would be either still be on lock down or monitored. It would make sense to isolate known criminals from the general population as well as known sex offenders as well because there are children there and easy access to them as well.

But on the other hand, you don't want ALL evacuees feeling degraded, humiliated or targeted. Its a hard call because I can easily say that if the option is between me and my kids sleeping next to a known criminal/pedofile or a background check, I'll go for background check.

Now people giving the authorities their actual name is a whole 'nother story.;) Assuming that most people are probably without a form of personal ID, how can you verify who is who? I guess if they are in the system already, you could run prints or something....

I understand that there are prisoners running wild that need to be caught, but I don't think it is fair to make these survivors jump through any more hoops to get their lives back on track. Don't you have to take a mugshot and fingerprints when you're imprisoned? Is all of that information stored in the jail with you? I thought it was centrally located. If so, flash their pics on tv and inform the public of those who are not accounted for. I'm sure they have an idea of about how many people are missing. But I really hope they do not require background checks. That's just a little much.

Aren't mugshots & criminal recors on file in somebody's federal database? As for sex offenders - there are sex offenders sites that show pics of them and whether or not they registered. So why can't these pics/ mugshots go up and places be on the look out for these criminals? Who was in charge of the criminals anyway? What'd they do - when the water rose open up the cells and just let them go?

Well, I think this is pretty much official and I didn’t even get so much as a tip – Foxy Brown and Tyson Beckford are an item. I heard the pair came out to the BET telethon hand-in-hand and all over each other. Now, the word is, Tyson wouldn’t go before the press unless Foxy came with him and they were all over each other during the press conference. Sheeesh, ain’t that something? Everybody I like (Foxy) finds somebody other than me. Best wishes to this pair, even though they are clearly rubbing this in my face. By, the way, BET says they made over $10 million in relief money. Let us hope that all the money goes to the real people in need.

The activities were kicked off at the BET Soundstage Club on Pleasure Island with a special taping of Joyner's upcoming show, 'Tom's Big Break,' a syndicated one-hour weekend variety-comedy program, which launches in October.

Soul veteran Al Green and comedian Akintunde performed during Joyner's Sky Show, a live version of his four-hour morning show that began broadcasting at 6AM EST from Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. (The Sky Show is also taped and edited down to two hours for airing on TV One.) Preceding the Sky Show was a six-hour block party presented by Joyner affiliate Star 94.5 FM in Orlando that featured a performance by R&B sweetheart Shanice.

The Tom Joyner Family Reunion also included performances by Lionel Richie, Damon Wayans, Jill Scott, New Edition, Morris Day & The Time, Ashanti, Smokie Norful, M.C. Hammer, Dr. Bobby Jones and The Nashville Super Choir, Shirley Caesar, Lil' iRocc, C.O.C.O. Brown and the Scream IV Tour lineup (Bow Wow, Omarion, Marques Houston, Bobby Valentino, Pretty Ricky and B5).

Maintaining his mantra of "partying with a purpose," Joyner had as many educational and information seminars as parties. Among them were his wife, Donna Richardson-Joyner's 'Sweating in the Spirit' exercise sessions; Home Depot's "How To Build A Picture Frame" seminar; a Pine-Sol presentation with The Pine-Sol Lady Diane Amos; and an extensive health fair, all of which took place at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort Convention Center. Joyner also signed copies of his newly released book, 'I'm Just A DJ But...It Makes Sense To Me' (Warner Books, $22.95).

Hurricane Katrina was the hot topic during the weekend, especially since Joyner's 2004 Family Reunion was cancelled because of Hurricane Francis. Last year's guests, including yours truly, had to be bused on Disney charter carriers to Atlanta because of the abrupt airport closings in Orlando.

Joyner announced during this year's Family Reunion the creation of the BlackAmericaWeb.com Relief Fund. The storm "hit the heart and soul of Black America," said Joyner. "This is our tsunami and we want to take care of those people who now may have family or friends who are going to be in their homes for an extended period of time."

Tom Joyner Morning Show has suspended its "TJMS Cash Call" contest and will donate $75,000 of contest money directly to relief efforts. Show personalities Smiley, Wilkes and Brown have each pledged $1,000, and Joyner also shared that Miss Dupree lost her home in New Orleans and now lives with him in Dallas.

Damon Wayans wowed the crowd at Tom Joyner's Family Reunion with his candid comments about President George W. Bush and war in Iraq. Wayans said that he's concerned about the possibility of Bush reinstating the draft and vowed to shoot both of his twenty-something sons in the foot before allowing them to fight in combat.

"I'll send my sons if he sends his daughters," began the 'My Wife and Kids' star. "Put those two drunk b--s on a plane and let them go fight. At least I know my sons would be getting some on the way."

Impersonating a phone conversation with his sons, Wayans said, "Hey boys, how'd you survive? Oh Dad, in the Bushes!"

M.C. Hammer and his wife, Stephanie, recently gave birth to a premature baby boy. "He's two pounds now, and his name is Samuel," Hammer told me during the Tom Joyner Family Reunion.

"He's in intensive care. We have to go see him and speak life to him and help him grow spiritually," explained the rapper.

The doting father of six said that family life is now his first priority, despite his newly launched music comeback. "Family means everything to me. Without family you're absolutely nothing. There's no one to share your joys with, nobody to pass anything down to. A man who comes home to no family is a lonely man," he offered.

The hip-hop minister, who recently performed as a surprise guest on the MTV Video Music Awards, said he had to work to find the balance between his ministry and performing. "I had to wait to get the green light. I'm a man who believes in God, and I needed him to give me the green light before I did my thing again. I had to make sure everything was in its proper perspective again. So right now I'm back full speed because I'm free," he said.

Shaq helps in arrest
 

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Shaquille O'Neal provided an assist to police over the weekend, trailing a man who allegedly assaulted a gay couple before alerting an arresting officer.

The 7-foot-1 Miami Heat center, who is in the process of becoming a Miami Beach reserve officer, was driving on South Beach around 3 a.m. Sunday. He saw a passenger in a car yell anti-gay slurs at the couple, who were walking, said Bobby Hernandez, a spokesman for the Miami Beach Police Department.

The man then got out of the car and threw a bottle, hitting one of the pedestrians, who was not seriously hurt. The man got back in the car, which sped off. O'Neal followed, flagging down an officer who made an arrest, Hernandez said.

Michael Gonzalez, 18, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a deadly weapon. The driver of the car was not charged.

O'Neal, who hopes to be a police chief or county sheriff one day, was already being fitted for his Miami Beach police uniform before he helped the police out.

"For this incident I don't want to be credited as an individual who does police work," O'Neal said in a statement. "I want to be credited as a Miami Beach police officer."

Nas' daddy, Olu Dara, is an avant-garde jazz cornetist. I think he emerged in the decade of the 1970s. He played on one of Nas' recent albums.

CTHU @ Lil' Kim's improved dressing as she readies for the slam. She's been hanging around designers, thus the improvement.

Garcelle does look :eek: She's usually better than that.

But Soror Wattleton just exudes polish and class. Now I need to lose quite a few l-b-s to get the figure, but her dress, hair, pearls, bag, etc. :cool:

It's a boy! Us Weekly is the first media outlet in the world to report that Britney Spears gave birth shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, according to hospital sources. Us was there as Spears, 23, and husband/aspiring rapper Kevin Federline, 27, arrived at the hospital with a police escort shortly before 6 a.m. and medical staff whisked Spears into a birthing suite. According to hospital sources, Spears was wheeled into a delivery room about 12:15 p.m. and within minutes the first-time mother had delivered via C-section with Federline by her side. (A rep for Spears had no comment.)

As reported in the Us cover story now on newsstands, Spears experienced early labor contractions on Sept. 9 and then spent the next several days in much physical discomfort. ''Pregnancy has not agreed with her,'' a Spears pal told Us. ''She has been sick a lot.... She couldn't get out of bed all weekend.''

Although the couple has not yet legally named the baby boy, sources tell the magazine they had planned to name the child Preston Michael Spears Federline. The child is Federline's third (he has two children, Kori, 3, and Kaleb, 1, with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson).

Sources tell Us that Spears plans to return to her $7 million Malibu mansion with her newborn within the next few days. In the October issue of Elle, Spears said she looked forward to motherhood, proclaiming, ''I'm gonna be a hot mom!''

During fashion week, Stevie Wonder's wife, Fashion Designer Kai Miller, was the toast of New York. Last week, Miller's designs were the talk of the town, and Stevie beamed with pride as his wife was honored. Miller and Wonder have been married for over four years. They have a toddler who's four and a new baby, 4 month old Mandela. This has been a very busy year for the couple. And, in a couple of weeks, the long awaited CD, A Time For Love, is going to be released.

One of the highlights of this year's VH1 Hip Hop Honors will be the reunion of En Vogue. Yes, the reunion of En Vogue! Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, Terry Ellis, and Dawn Robinson will be coming together for one night to help honor Rap Icons Salt and Pepa. They will be performing their 90's hit with Salt and Pepa, What A Man. Boris Kodjoe's long awaited movie, The Gospel, hits theatres on October 7th. The movie also stars Nona Gaye, Clifton Powell, Idris Elba, Donnie Mc Clurkin and Yolanda Adams. June Pointer of the Pointer Sisters has pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine. She will be in a drug rehab program for the next 18th months.

Dave Chappelle says he is enjoying his life since walking away from his popular comedy show, Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central. Chappelle walked away from his $50 million contract and shocked the entertainment industry. Chappelle says he is enjoying working in small clubs and venues because he prefers working in front of a small audience. He states he is not on drugs, and he doesn't have a mental illness. Chappelle left his show during production of the third season and never looked back.

Charlie Wilson is coming to Philly. He will be starring in the stage musical, Why Do Good Girls Like Bad Boys. Angie Stone is also starring. The show runs September 27th thru October 2nd at the Merriam Theatre.

Beyonce is gracing the cover of Essence magazine. Essence is sporting a new look. It reminded me of Vogue. Beyonce is on her own now that Destiny's Child has ended their reign. She's gearing up for her movie career. She has two big releases next year, The Pink Panther, with Steve Martin and the musical, Dreamgirls, with Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy.

Jamie Foxx has been named the Spokesperson for the NAACP's Disaster Relief Fund to aid Hurricane Katrina victims. Foxx says he's honored to join forces with the NAACP to help out those who have lost so much in the Gulf Coast.

Tina Turner is among the honorees at this year's Kennedy Center Honors. The 28th annual gala takes place in December. Singer Tony Bennett and Actor Robert Redford are also being honored.

Oscar Winner Sidney Poitier is about to become a video music star! Jamie Foxx has lured Poitier out of retirement to co-star in his new music video, Extravaganza. This will be the first single off of Jamie's new album, which is coming out in mid November.

Now speaking of albums get ready for the return of Kindred The Family Soul. Their new CD, In This Life Together, comes out on the 21st featuring the lead off single, Where Would I Be, The Question.

Earth Wind & Fire will perform the in the opening montage at this Sunday's Emmy's Awards. The show airs on CBS. Who will be the big winners? Desperate Housewives, Will and Grace, Halle Berry? Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting.

The 10th Annual Lady of Soul Awards are talking place this Saturday at 8pm on WB17. The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin will be getting The Lena Horne Award for Outstanding Career Achievement. Stevie Wonder will be on hand to give it to her, and they will be doing a duet together. They will be performing Until You Come Back To Me, a 70's hit for Aretha. Stevie wrote the song for her. Brian McKnight and Toni Braxton are hosting. Ciara, Amerie and John Legend are all scheduled to perform. Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Jill Scott, and Destiny's Child are all up for awards.
