But what is the critera the respect is based on? Their academic program? their stance on hazing? how cute their members tend to be? their alumni/ae networking? their boyfriend?

Thank you very much. My point exactly.

Since I started this thread I thought I'd weigh in on what I was hoping would be the purpose of the thread.

Simply put, the thread was created to generate a friendly discussion between members of GLO's as to personal opinions on national GLO's they respect. Ideally, I was hoping that individuals would state why they felt a GLO was doing an exceptional job nationally. I.E. - ATO's creative use of it's website for chapter communication or Phi Psi's endowment fund

The thread is only subjective and should not be taken as anything more. We all know that every GLO has something special to offer. However, lets not forget that we all are entitled to our personal opinions.

Tom Earp 08-22-2005 06:56 PM

If I remember correctly, This Thread was about National GLOs.

It was not about Locals or Movie/TV GLOs!

Here is a Young Man who is asking and that was it! Period!

As DeltaAlum so aptly Stated, Most of the members of this Site or any others do not have a dang Clue about Other GLOs.

I do have Information as I am In contact with Heads of Several GLOs, Do Any of You? I still do not have All Of The Information of ALL GLOs. Do You?:(

gezpitt, while I tried to warn You, it too a Life of its own!:(

Okay, Why dont some of You find out about other GLOs instead of Complaining? It might prove worth while!

Live and Learn! Dah!!!!

you arent the only Grass Pad out there!

gezpitt 08-22-2005 07:01 PM

Tom, thanks for getting the message

Yours in ZAX -

Yeah I knew your intent. I was just too lazy to be specific beyond listing the orgs. I still am too lazy.

Firehouse 08-22-2005 10:44 PM

OK. I see a lot of chapter websites, and I'll ay that hands-down, Delta Tau Delta has the best chapter websites in the country. I have no idea why; I don't think their national does anything special to promote it. But for some reason their websites are superior.

What about respect on a national level, though? That's what this thread is about.

KSUViolet06 08-23-2005 01:02 PM

I have alot of respect for Chi Omega, Delta Sigma Theta, and Alpha Delta Pi.

tunatartare 08-23-2005 02:12 PM

I'm just going to say one- Lambda Chi Alpha, because that's the one that I've seen the most of and the one that I know the most about.

g41965 08-23-2005 07:41 PM

Respect

Ok reasons for my opinions:

Sigma Chi high percentage of active chapters still active 217/259.
great traditions "sweetheart of sigma chi", derby days etc.
SAE first hq1929, first leadership school 1935 strong in every area of the nation.
Delt good alumni involvment, DU adopted Delt alumni chapter concept late 1980's good example of strong midsize national 110 chapters.

Not nasty really.. not to anyone except those looking for a reason to be offended.

I've actually learned some good stuff about other organizations, even gained more respect for them than I had before.

glass = half full.

ummmm... shouldn't we respect ALL orgs on a national level? Shouldn't we respect all orgs in general?

Haven't our GLO's taught us to respect others?

valkyrie 08-24-2005 10:55 AM

HOW DARE NOBODY HERE RESPECT MY ORGANIZATION. YOU ALL THINK YOUR OPINIONS ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT MATTER! WHY DON'T YOU POST SOME OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS! I BET YOU THINK THIS IS HAZING!

That's one hell of a leap you appear to be making (but maybe I'm assuming incorrectly that you're making that leap?)

Are you saying that by listing three organizations we respect on a national level that we are in essence saying that we don't respect any others? Who said that they respected 3 and no others? In 5 pages? Anyone?

It appears that you are really digging here for something to be offended about. This is a good thread.

That said, I didn't comment on NPC organizations because organizationally, I don't perceive there to be much difference between any of them. That may be ignorance talking, but to an outsider, that's the way they appear.

honeychile 08-24-2005 11:15 AM

I actually know the inner workings - or the basic inner workings - of only 2-3 GLOs, and that would include mine. That's why I decline to say which I respect on a national basis, because I wouldn't want to post an uninformed opinion.

Lindz928 08-24-2005 11:15 AM

I don't think anyone here is under the assumption that their org is not respected.

I think it is just the fact that it could be confused with some kind of popularity contest.

Bingo. Which, because of the lack of information, is what this is.

So you would seek a moratorium on any kind of positing in which the poster is uninformed?

It's an internet message board for chrissakes.

A reader can reasonably expect that posters are all limited to their own small areas of experience. Are you seriously worried about some kiddo reading this thread and deciding not to rush your org because you didn't get enough votes?

kddani 08-24-2005 11:38 AM

I'm not offended, sheesh people. I think you all know me better than that.

I don't really understand the point of this thread, especially since there's no criteria or anything really. I'm free to say that, sorry if you don't like it.

I just don't see this as being much different of a thread than the much-loathed "how's XYZ on your campus" threads. But whatever.

Not at all. Are you really thinking that most people who post here make reasonable assumptions? Because if you do, I have some land for sale...

I don't think it's like those threads at ALL. The focus in this thread is positive, whereas the focus in those threads can go any which way. Plus, I think 99 percent of the people on these boards understand that local chapter does not equal national organization, which means that nobody is going to post, "OMG I respect Tri Delta because they're all hot and know how to party!!!1!"

Anybody who thinks that a PNM would choose to not rush a certain house based on what is said in this thread is underestimating them, and if I were a PNM, I would be offended at peoples' perceptions of my intelligence or lackthereof.

EEKappa 08-24-2005 01:20 PM

Is the intent of the thread better conveyed by "Top three GLOs you admire on a national level"? We all respect each other, (I hope!) but there are some programs are truly worthy of admiration.

Considering that admiration is one definition and synonym for "respect," the question can be phrased either way and achieve the same effect.

Regardless of the semantics people will ask "how much do people know about other organizations," "this is too much like blahzey blah thread," "this is a popularity contest," yada yada yada....

This is definately what it should have been named! To be totally honest, I would have to go by looking at ever sorority or fraternities philanthrophies because I dont know everything about every single GLO out there. Just being Greek is a great experience & we should all be thankful that the founders of every GLO went out of their way to form our fab GLOs & just for that they ALL should be respected! I have always admired Kappa Delta & Zeta Tau Alpha because of the soft-spot in my heart for children & ladies with breast cancer. I do not know much about any of the other GLOs so please nobody take that my two admires to heart.
Everyone have a great week!

DSTCHAOS 08-24-2005 03:27 PM
