OH No, you didn't Original Ape!!I thing we(women) have been doing a wonderful job naming our children. Some of these names have special meaning behind them. For example, my sister just had a baby last week and she named her Micaah, which is a book from the bible.

The Original Ape 07-15-2001 12:03 AM

Names are getting ridiculous because look who's naming them! Baby Mamas!

The next question is, does SHE know why that book is important? Has she even read the book? What about that book makes it more special than any other book in the Bible? Or did she just like the way it sounds and therefore it is special?

I gotta go with Original Ape on this one. It seems like people are being too selfish. Its not aobut the child anymore, its about what type of syllables, or things, or objects the parent likes. People gove their dogs better names than the kids!

I don't know what I'll do if I meet another child named Corvosier (I've met 2 already).
I even know a little boy whose first name is Taekwon ( I am unsure of the spelling)--but guess what his middle name is.....

Chi_ZETABBW 07-15-2001 09:58 AM

Great topic all the way round, LOL!
These names is outrageous, I agree with TOA, Babies naming babies. They think they are playing with dolls. Also Straightbos(sp), who said lets try to raise unique individuals(paraphrasing).
Oddly enough I agree with Doggystyle(after 2 divorces). I kept my maiden name(hyphinated), which has alot to do with attidue about marriage. My intentions was that I was keeping my maiden name because I am an only child, and wanted apart of my dad to stay.

prettypoodle6 07-16-2001 06:41 PM

i agree with original ape too.... (if i'm interpreting correctly what he's trying to say)

there's a difference between mature mothers and little chicken head baby mamas (i know ima take some heat for that one!)

sometimes i wonder... "no really, you thought that was cute?"

TRSimon 07-19-2001 12:31 AM

I know that sometimes young mothers come up with some stuff, but what is up with so-called grown behind women naming their kids after drinks http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif

Alize'/Alizay/Alizae
Tanqueray
Zima
Champale
and Corvosier
(I just know somebody is out there named Tequila)

Now, if someone comes up with a kid named Heineken, Absolut, Boone's Farm or Cold Duck, I'm just going to hang it up. I mean, don't people understand that at some point there is going to be a graduation and someone is going to call out Tequila Shaymonique D'Angenee Smith to get her diploma?

(In the crowd shaking my head)

Baby Names

Before our daugther was born, we went through the baby name books...to look for that perfect name! :) We decided to go with something simple to read (the first time around)! :) I worked for a woman who threw out someone's job application, because she could not figure out how to pronounce the womans name.

http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/laugh.gif I laugh because a few years ago, my boss did that also.

Yemaya 04-09-2002 03:13 PM

I hope that my job application never gets put in the trash...I have a very different name! I dont think thats fair, cause if the person is qualified then he or she should get the job regardless! -Yemaya-

UNIQUE97 04-10-2002 12:57 AM

Me too, Yemaya!! My name is very different. I am named after to aunts---one of my dad's sisters and one of my mom's sisters. Their names are Tanji and Angela -- my name is Shatanjela (my mother added the "Sha"). I know that plenty of employers have thrown out my applications because they could not pronounce my name. I love it though --- It sets me apart. I don't know too many people with a name close to it --a few but not alot!!

EEEE-YIP out!!!:D

NinjaPoodle 04-10-2002 02:00 AM

I have to admit, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to names. However, I prefer names that are not common. [see the lists that I posted previously]

I have a unique name also. Franchon. pronounced FRAN-shawn. The trauma I endured from 1st grade through jr. high(not in HS cause most of the people there knew me from JR. High) from fellow students teasing me about my name was enough for me to chop it down to just Fran. Most people think it's Francis, which is ok with me because then I don't have to tell the whole story about my name.

I forgot to add, the good thing about my name is I use my full name in formal situations and my friends can just call me Fran.

I think with names, I 've always felt that a name should be suitable for not only a cute 2 year old, but a matured 80 year old woman. As far as my boss throwing out the resume, she should not have done that but she owned the company, so what can you do?

NinjaPoodle 09-01-2004 07:26 PM

I was watching Jeporady! the other day and it was Kids week in D.C. There was a cute little boy on there by the name of OKEY pronounced O-Kay.  What the he** were his parents thinking??

SeriousSigma22 09-01-2004 10:49 PM

That is just too Funny! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! can you say Ghetto Fabulous!

This past summer school I had some students with some very interesting names:

Dayshawn
Misya
Keyonia
Kerion (Ke Ke!)

just to name a few!

I called them all by their last names because I didn't feel like pronounce such unique names.

I swear that I read the roll for a class I was subbing for, and one girl was named Dominatrix. NO LIE! Fortunately, someone had enough sense to use her middle name for the roll. Her mama obviously didn't think about reactions when people hear her name at graduation or when she and her husband are introduced at the wedding reception.

I've also had Chablis in class, and it was a boy. :(
