That's awesome! We do American Model United Nations in Chicago (which is in a hotel, so not nearly as cool). My school has done the NMUN before, but they had problems w/ ppl not showing up to sessions.

Presidential security has always been tight, but it obviously has increased.

President Clinton did a speech at our facility outside Denver a few years ago, and there were about six of us who were the direct interfaces with Secret Service and WHCA (Pronounced WA-KA), the White House Communications Agency.

They come into every site with the attitude that they're dealing with amateurs. Between the six or so of us, all former local or network broadcasters, we had televised hundreds of "head of state" type events -- which they came to realize when we started asking questions about lockdowns, magnetometer locations and sweeps with the dogs before they brought them up.

The good news was that the lead Denver Secret Service Agent was also the lead agent when the Pope was there and he remembered me from that broadcast. Made everything a little easier.

It was still pretty disruptive to the rest of the employees.

Working at the UN Building has been interesting for the past month -- security definitely tightned, at least in terms of sheer number of guards, since the second set of London bombings last week.

Those guys are in the same career-field i'm in. They are always recruiting Comm guys from around the air force...great job from people i've spoken to that have done it since you travel with the president and wear civilian clothes, but a lot of hard work and not very good for future promotions as it is very rank-heavy and chances are you will be the youngest one there, even as a mid-level NCO - meaning you have no troops to supervise.

He's really dating himself... :D The Playboy Club in Miami (used to be on Biscayne Boulevard and NE 79th Street) closed some time ago - as did all the remaining ones in the U.S.

<-- former Playboy Club Keyholder. :D

Nothing too exciting...

I was one of the few students that got to attend the first presidential debate (in 2004) in person- we had to write essays, and they chose the best ones. So I got to see both Kerry and Bush in person. Needless to say, security on campus was CRAZY.

I also just got back from living in Australia for 5 months, and I went on a 10 day outback camping trip which was definitely one of the highlights of my life :)

From what I hear, it is good duty. They do tend to assume that they're better than many of the civilian professionals they work with and really show an attitude. In some case -- notably smaller markets -- that may be true. However, they have a very pat formula for things that is sometimes fooled by physics and mother nature.

I saved their butts once when George I was speaking at an Air Force Academy graduation in Falcon Stadium. Their formula didn't take into account that the Academy had painted the background a highly reflective blue, and one of their "normal" lights was so "hot" on the background that it was brighter than the President's face on camera. Very bad news.

I actually was told to mind my own business and stewed for a while -- then went back and told them they didn't have to listen, but it was their boss who would look bad, not my pool. The guy sent someone to stand at the podium and looked into the camera and immediately had the offending light removed.

Of course he didn't say thank you.

I did get some nice "autographed" pics of Clinton when they saw the signed photo of "Marine One" I got from the HMX1 folks after the Papal coverage. Had nothing to do with the coverage, but I took the squadron XO to a Bronco game in the station sky box.

Well, the guys in my career field in White House Comm deal more with the computer networking, etc. aspect...not so much the lights.

I saved my cousin from drowning (she was about 6 or 7 and I was like 12). However, my cousin had to save me from drowning 3 years prior. But it was another cousin who had tried to drown me, so I don't feel too bad about it. :)

Whoever was in "Now and Then" what part did you have?
