I would've told them strongly where to go ;) well, in a nice way.

Those of you who are SO concerned with what your HQ thinks of you.... why? If you're not doing anything worthy of getting your badge pulled, why do you care so much? Why let an organization totally control you? I've been semi-reprimanded by our HQ for things i've said in our yahoo group and elsewhere. I've disagreed very strongly with some of our policies in our yahoogroup and elsewhere. I've had some passionate arguments with some of the HQ staff. That's my right and my freedom. Where in ANY of our manuals, rules, etc does it say that sorority sisters must agree on EVERYTHING? What kind of power do these people have over you that you feel the need to hide? Again, if you're not disrespecting your org and just posting your opinions, etc. THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO YOU. And if they can/would, why would you want to be a part of that org?

In every group there's people that are power hungry and NEED for people to do everything they say how they say. But the fact is our orgs are made up of 10's of thousands of very different individuals with very different attitudes and beliefs. And some people don't realize it. But why let them get you down?

Our inter/national officers are not infalliable. Our HQ staffs are not infalliable. They're wrong sometimes. And that's okay. We disagree sometimes, and that's okay. That's why we live in this country (and Canada, lol). We can do that.

There are tons of references to alcohol and being drunk or drugs on GC also.

But it shouldn't matter.

I would hope most of our NOs have much better things to do with their time that go through someone's GC posts to reprimand them for saying that recruitment should go back to being called rush.

And as for PNMs.... that's a whole 'nother ball of wax. Yes we're not judging orgs by their GCers, but a PNM only represents herself, a PNM. Not any particular group. So it's not like we're judging a school's entire group of PNMs by the dimwit posting a rush thread.

And for those who have changed their names previously... well, they had obvious reasons for doing so. Some people made some pretty wild/crazy/stupid/etc posts with their letters blazing in their sig and screenname. But then again, most of those people are pretty open about what username they used to be and aren't really hiding who they are. They learned from their mistakes and started over.

yes Rudey, i'm quite aware, but I could see org's HQs having a valid complaint against people for that

I don't have an HQ, but I have, in the past, been told to keep my trap shut on various topics by older sisters. But I agree with you that someone's HQ shouldn't be playing "Big Brother" on a public forum.

Granted the topic I started in Rush probably wasn't the best time to break out a new SN because yes it seems petty and stupid to "disguise" myself.

Honestly I just wanted to change my name a while ago, but never knew I could transfer my old posts to my new name without being a mod or something.

So I'll just hang out and wait until John gets back to me.

Isn't this kind of what you're trying to do? You've started a thread bitching about people doing what they want to do...and saying it's not cool for them to do it.

You love to pick fights with people, don't you?

This is a topic that has been discussed a lot recently, and I brought it up. So what? And guess what, no one has to listen to or care about my opinion. Those who want to be anonymous can keep on doing so. I have absolutely zero power over anyone here, unless they post in the KD or events forum. Oooohhh. Big deal. But myself and others ARE allowed to express our opinions on it and let people know that they might not be taken seriously by others.

This isn't me trying to pick a fight -- this is me trying to make a point. When else have I picked a fight?

I just don't understand the hoopla over all of this. People create new usernames because (insert reason here). Whatever -- it's their username and unless John makes a rule about only one username per IP address, then they can have 69 if they so choose.

Personally, I prefer someone becoming a new anonymous user who posts seriously than someone who creates a new puppet username just to be obnoxious. What's funny is that several people who have posted in this thread have multiple usernames, some of which are meant to be anonymous and obnoxious.

Rudey 07-11-2005 11:56 AM

I think it would be real nifty if we were all just nice to each other :)

Barely posted/came on excepted to read the AGD forum. Didn't really post there either. I've been on GC since 98 or 99 or something ridiculous...
I used to post stuff I wouldn't dare post now (older, wiser, more discreet) but the ONE post I got bitched at by my IHQ was for something totally unrelated to anything sexual, nothing about drinking, nothing about boys- it was a post about a badge.

Oh my darling, I so remember that...and that still disturbs me to this day.

If it means anything, I catch a lot of crap for half the ish that I post, not only on GC but also on LJ as well...but many of the fine folx of our organization know all too well that this is how I am -- and they know that my opinions do not reflect the Fraternity's opinions in any way.

Sure it'd be easy to just start all over, but for what? It's really not worth it.

I see it this way...

I will probably never hold an office as an alum outside of my local alum chapter because a) I'm not really interested and b) I probably won't have the time.

All I know is that I was an active and contributing member to Delta Sigma as a collegian and I try to the best of my ability to do the same as an alum by attending as many events as possible and by paying my dues often and on time (as far as membership goes).

In the sisterhood sense, I consider some of my AGD sisters my best friends to this day...and I'm thankful that I have a bunch I can call on both locally and inter/nationally. They're there for me, and I try to be there for them as best as I can. It's Epsilon Pi all the way.

I'll be OTW no matter what, regardless of what I say or do online. My opinions are such because I am OTW and not OTW the AGD. And if an AGD has a problem with that and tells me so online because they can take comfort in knowing that they can hide behind a computer, then she better steer clear away from me because if I ever see her at Convention, I'll let her know what I really feel.

Proof, honey?

WCUgirl 07-11-2005 04:42 PM

Sorry, I'm not going to start calling people out. Some of them are obvious, and some of them are not-so-obvious. I was surprised at one particular one when I found out who it was.

Besides, I don't want my "source" to stop talking to me. :)

WCUgirl 07-11-2005 04:46 PM

Lol! Booby, if she threatens to torture me I may have to tell her some of your other secrets. Can you forgive me?

kddani 07-11-2005 04:48 PM

Your "source" could easily be wrong. I don't even know who's behind all the names.

Did she still end up going to rush events even when the computer system crashed that day and they had to put everything off until the next day?

Well, yeah! Haha it's funny you mentioned that because yeah, the computers did crash but STILL, all the girls from all the houses loved her SO MUCH that they all showed up at her dorm room to give her handwritten invitations to their next parties even though the computers weren't working. They wanted to make sure she didn't end up freaking out and dropping out of rush because she's so awesome they all really want her!

Hey guys, what are the three best houses at Maryland? Okay, cool. That's where she went to pref -- er, I mean that's where she's GOING to pref, when she actually goes through rush! Yay! Did I mention that she's really hot?!

ADqtPiMel 07-11-2005 05:20 PM

we need a visit from my GC crush, the Grapist!

AOIIalum 07-11-2005 05:26 PM

Completely OT--but I saw where Sir Elton lives in Atlanta when I was down there recently.
