He did NOT go to college, but TKE offered him honorary memebership. It just barely counts, but he is a TKE

SurfinDBeach 07-09-2005 06:46 AM

Yep, this is on the other thread...

But yeah, Elvis is an honorary member for his contributions to the chapter at Arkansas State University, fully initated and approved by the Grand Chapter and International Headquarters...

Having sexual disfunction does not make you famous.

irishpipes 07-09-2005 06:02 PM

I would like to add that as I stated in my initial post, THIS IS FOR FUN. I did not imply that famous people are important to a GLO. Obviously it is the unnamed majority that make things work. However, if I were to have started a thread that asked who you would most like to claim in your GLO, my response would have been Jennifer A_ _ _ _ who lives down the street from me. That would mean nothing to any of you because she isn't someone any of you know! Do you get where I am going with this? Famous people aren't more important than non-famous people, but because we all know who they are, we can facilitate a discussion.

If you are offended by this thread, by all means ignore it. I wish you would, in fact. Sheez.

ADPi Conniebama 07-09-2005 08:57 PM

When I was a pledge I was told for some unknown reason that Carol Burnett was an ADPi. Which made me think strongly about that "pulling the ear thing." But, alas that information was false.

So, it would have been cool if

Carol Burnett - Funny, Leader, Giver

Lisa Simpson - I mean the GPA alone. . . if she ever grows up - the future holds the presidency.

Anne Klein - Hello lion jewelery - another falsehood told to this little pledge.

One or both of the Olsen Twins - hello, great rush tool. (did they go greek?)

I read that Condi (sp?) Rice is an Alpha Chi Omega - I LOVE HER?

Fun Thread

RedRoseSAI 07-10-2005 12:03 AM

Since this thread was first started, I've tried and tried to think of some famous musicians who I'd like for sisters, and you know, all the ones I'd really like to have...we already have! With the exception of Sheryl Crow, most of our famous members are not on the mainstream radar, but are VERY prominent in music circles.

The only mainstream artist I've been able to come up with is Carole King. I like the fact that she's a singer/songwriter (like Sheryl!), not just a pretty face. Anna Nalick would be cool, too, although she's not terribly famous (yet). I'm sure there are others...I just can't think of any.

It's funny you mention Anne Klein...I have a really cute pink and gold Anne Klein purse with the lion logo all over it. I've always thought it would be a good purse for a Phi Mu to own!

As long as we're dreaming:D

Every female governor and President. If male, then their wives. And their daughters....

Maybe that would remind other alumnae who "forget" or "don't have time" to remember their vows.

To heck with political affliations..our vows are taken for a lifetime.:D

Reagan was a TKE? Man, you'd think he'd have been more fun.

ladygreek 07-10-2005 12:39 AM

Okay, I have to retract my statement. I would love to have Condi as a Delta. Although she and I are on opposite sides of the political equation, what she has accomplished as a Black woman is amazing. But alas, the NPC already has her.

Tom, can I make you an honorary Delta beaux? ;)

SurfinDBeach 07-10-2005 12:46 AM

lol...

Yep, Reagan was the prime example of a TKE...

We hear so much of President Reagans days in the White House... He regularly attended TKE national events, visited houses, had Tekes over at the White House regularly, greeted Tekes first whenever he went to different places to visit and even had a badge on him most of the time...

Theres a great story about how a Teke came into the White House with his wife - Ronald asked if she had been properly pinned... The Teke responded that he had not properly pinned her...

So Reagan reached somewhere and pulled out a badge, got on his knee, and sung the TKE Sweetheart song to her...

Life long example...

When he died, TKE National Officers and many many others attended memorial services...
and my Chapter president and Vice President were present at a special reception sometime after that at the Ranch here in California...

Every Teke across the nation wore a black ribbon under their badge for 14 days - a custom of ours when a Frater enters the Chapter Eternal...

That's really a sweet story...boys, take note!

SurfinDBeach 07-10-2005 01:00 AM

Best Part...

The best part about that was the fact that the Leader of the Free World had enough humility to get down on a knee and honor a wife/sweetheart that had not been properly honored in our customs...
:D

Hows that for a thought, eh?

I attended a Reagan TKE memorial at my school that was co-sponsored with a business fraternity that he was also a member of. (I went with my boyfriend who is a TKE) it was a very nice outdoor ceremony.

I always heard that she pulled her ear as a shout out to her grandmother. She would have been a good greek catch. I'm sure she would have made an amazing rusher.

Yes, Condi is an Alphi Chi (I think somewhere in Colorado - U. of Denver maybe?) I would love to have her too.

And with all this Ronal Reagan talk, I will wistfully add that I would love to claim Nancy Reagan. I believe she went to Smith, so she is not greek. I realize that she isn't as beloved as R.R. and she definitely has some issues, but she is a lovely lady and certainly was a loyal wife. Above all else, I would have wanted her so her husband could have serenaded the AOIIs!

I would also want Molly Shannon from SNL because I would think any rush skit with her in it would be a scream. ("Come be an AOII so you can be a superstar!")

Nancy Grace - legal-type talk show host on CNN.

Laura Ingraham - lawyer, former collegiate athlete, radio talk show host, former Supreme Court clerk

Also, Candice Olsen from "Divine Design" on HGTV. Not only is she very pretty, but she has a lot of personality and she could redecorate the chapter houses when they need it. :)

ASUADPi 07-10-2005 01:16 PM

I have to go with what SmartBlondeGPhB and AOII_LB93 said, if they contributed it would be cool.

ADPi has so many famous alums that I am so proud to call my sisters but of the famous ones only a select handful actually do anything with the organization now.

Honestly, it seems like right now our famous alums are more for bragging rights during recruitment.

I would just love for our current famous alums to actually do stuff.

And quite honestly I love the famous alums we have, so right now I really can't think of any other famous people that I would love to see ADPi's. (If that makes sense at all). Plus, the other famous people I like are already greek (ie. Jennifer Garner, Pi Phi).

I think thats right - I also heard it was to say goodnight to her daughter, anyway when I thought she was an ADPi, I thought maybe she may have tried to sneak in some sort of somthing on her show.

Jean Smart got "ADPi Pin" on designing women. I fell over backwards when I heard that on TV.

If I ever get on national tv (again) I will try to get something in about ADPi, unless I am doing something I should be doing ;).

valkyrie 07-10-2005 01:48 PM

I don't care about famous people -- however, I wish that as a sister, I could tell Kimberly Williams to get the hell off that According to Jim show. It's embarrassing.

I am pretty sure that Condi went to Berkely. She went to school and was friends with the former Dean of Students of San Diego State (who was a Sigma Kappa). Our greek advisor was able to get Condi to sign a picture of herself and give it to SDSU's AXO chapter. Pretty cool.

Barbara Bush: she just seems so classy, and I know the later Bush women went Theta, but if Barbara's unaffiliated, can KD have her?

Sarah Michelle Gellar: kicked butt as "Buffy;" would make "our chapter kicks so much butt" a literal statement.

Mary Chapin Carpenter: I really like her music, plus the chapters who performed folksy-country-sounding guitary songs during recruitment always impressed me.

LOL. OMG Buffy is my all-time favorite show. He he.

She would definately make the "chapter kick so much butt", she does have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and did most of her stunts on Buffy (except the ones labeled "dangerous").
