Copa - Don't sweat too much about your rec writers not getting their postcards back. Lots of times when the recs come in in mid to late August along with tons of other rec letters AND all the recruitment applications, the recruitment information managers simply don't have the time to get the acknowledgment out is as timely a fashion as they would like. Some chapters even wait until after recruitment is over so they can add a personal note like, "We were very excited when Copa pledged our sorority." and "Our women loved meeting Copa and even though she chose a different chapter, we feel she will be a great member there."
As an alumna, I'd prefer to wait till afterward to get those nice little additions so that I know what happened and what the chapter thought! But that's just me. I see the benefits in having an immediate acknowledgment, but don't worry yourself to death over the lack of one. Best wishes for a fabulous recruitment!! |
So I'm really glad to see that so many PNMs have had happy rush stories so far. I'm still kind of wondering if greek life is for me (and my mom isn't really being very supportive of me joining a sorority, but I don't really think she understands greek life at all) but I'm excited to give rush a try.
Orientation is tomorrow! I can't wait:) |
good luck!
|
my mom wasn't thrilled either. her sister was in a sorority a long time ago and she was afraid i would have similar experiences. plus, she didn't go to college, so she didn't have any other frame of reference. my mom got over it when she saw what a great group of women i found! i hope you enjoy your experience!

here goes nothing!
Thank you for all of the advice everyone has offered me so far-- it's been very valuable and I am sure it will continue to be very helpful during this recruitment process!
I went to orientation this morning! I already knew 2 girls in my rush group that I actually rushed with last semester (we all withdrew at the end instead of signing bid cards). The rho chis and panhel officers had the cutest shirts and my rho chi is really sweet! (I'm trying to guess her affiliation-- my guess is that she's either a strawberry or an apple!) There are a LOT of girls rushing this year at my school, so I'm a little intimidated. So RUSH begins this Thursday! Ahhhh! |
I'm glad to hear that you're excited and ready to go! Best wishes to you!!
.....Kelly :) |
I hope your rush is extra fun!! Lol. Keep an open mind!!! YAY for you! Take Care

Letter day 1!
So everyone, I just got back from my very first day of RUSH! I am feeling a little sick (sore throat:( ) and excited for the remainder of the weekend.
Today I visited: Peach Pineapple Watermelon Grape Orange Peach This house was really cute-- their decorations were done in my favorite color and all the girls were dolled up! These girls were very sweet and I knew one of the girls who rushed me from a class last year. I would like to go back to this house and I'd be a little bummed if they cut me. Pineapple Even though I was trying to go into rush with an open mind, I thought I wouldn't like this house, but guess what? I totally liked this house! These girls are really pretty, but are also very intelligent. I felt like I really clicked with a couple girls here, though I'm kind of setting myself up to be cut from this house just because it's really competitive. Watermelon Yeah so this house was interesting. I didn't click at all with the first girl who rushed me, and the second girl who rushed me asked a really embarassing question (something that you would definitely not talk about at rush or pretty much anywhere at all!) so I answered it the best I could. We laughed it off, but I think that episode ruined my chances at this house. I really liked the third girl I talked to though. I would like to give this house another chance, but I don't know if I'll be invited back because of the first two conversations. Grape Grape is a local sorority at our school that gets to participate in only the first round of formal rush. The girls here are really sweet, but this isn't the place for me. Orange I liked this house more than I did last semester during rush. It was really loud though and I could hear almost nothing my rushers asked! All of the girls I met were very sweet . Their dance was also really cute-- I'm not sure yet if I could see myself here, but I want to come back again. If I had to rank just the houses I visited today, it would probably go: Pineapple Peach Orange Watermelon (Grape) |
Sounds like you had a blast!! Just keep an open mind, because you never know where you'll end up (trust me! lol) A house that might not seem u, right now, may just be your best choice...ya know?
Well hope all goes well! Take Care |
Letter day 2!
I know that you are all beside yourselves with anticipation, so I am updating on letter day 2! Today was definitely a blast and even though I now have a full-fledged cold, I'm trying to cope and make it through rush!
Tonight I went to: Strawberry Banana Mango Apple Strawberry I liked this house. They had the cutest dance and I think I liked their house (not the chapter, the physical house itself) the best out of all so far. I clicked pretty well with all of the girls I talked to, but I have this fear of not being invited back, because this is one of the houses I loved last semester that didn't invite me back. Banana I really liked this house a lot! The girls were so genuine and sweet and I definitely could see myself in this house. I liked everyone I talked to and their decorations were adoreable! Mango I love these girls!!! I had so much to talk about with every single girl and they all seemed so passionate about their philanthropy, which I also really loved! They all seem like really interesting people and I really really hope I get to come back. This is another house that I loved last semester and was dropped from, so I'm still expecting the worst... Apple These girls were really nice, but something about this house didn't really click as much as it did with the other houses. Cute girls, nice looking house but I don't know...we didn't have a whole lot to talk about, I guess. So I was randomly thinking about this on one of our breaks: Tonight we ranked six first choices, 1 second choice and 1 third choice. I ranked: 1- Pineapple 1- Mango 1- Banana 1- Peach 1- Strawberry 1- Watermelon 2- Orange 3- Apple Tomorrow we go back to a maximum of 6 houses, wish me luck! |
OOh I almost missed this!!
I hope you have a great day tomorrow!!! :) Good luck! |
oh great!....now i crave a fruit salad!!best wishes that you get your top choices!!
|
Good luck - I hope you we get invites to your "Favorites".:)

craft day
Well, I have some very disappointing news...I was cut from almost all the houses and was only invited back to two today.:( I'm definitely bummed because I felt so at home in some of the houses and I just can't understand why I wasn't invited back. Today I went back to Peach and Apple.
Peach I liked Peach a lot better today than I did yesterday. I really felt like I connected with all of the girls I talked to and their craft was really cute. I'm not sure that I really fit into this house, but I really like these girls. I really hope I don't get cut from this house tomorrow, I'll be bummed. Apple Apple was ok. I really didn't get a chance to talk to the girls though because they paired us off (two PNMs to every one Apple) and the other PNM I was paired with was really chatty and basically just talked the whole time. They seem sweet. Even though I only went back to two houses, we still had to rank all of the houses in case some girls drop. We ranked four first choices and then a second, third and fourth choice. I ranked: 1- Peach 1- Apple 1- Banana 1- Mango 2- Pineapple 3- Orange 4- Watermelon |
Good luck Copacabana!! I stuck it out...I hope you do too!!
|
Good luck sweetheart!!
I know things are tough but keep smiling! |

Copa, don't worry about being cut, I know it is a bummer (TRUST ME! lol) but it will all work out for the best!! Take Care and keep your head up. |
Thanks for your encouragement, it really means a lot. I just feel so discouraged...
|
sweetie....
call it a road trip. you don't know for sure where or how it will end, but you continue for the curiousity of the moment. definitely finish the game and then breath deeply and see how you feel. right now is not the time to do anythng like dropping. tomorrow could be a much better day. lol {huggles} |
Hmmm... how can I make all those cuts sound like a positive rather than a negative...
I guess try and figure that maybe this is just a shortcut to your new home. Perhaps Peach or Apple are your home and you just don't see it yet. You've only just begun, so don't give up yet. If not... check on Grape, the local. (Sorry, I'm partial to locals cuz I am in one and love it.) Formal recruitment may not be their strong suit since they don't see it all the way through. I don't know many that do, so maybe if they have COB events, check them out in a less formal atmosphere. Same with the others I suppose. Anyway... keep at it. You'll be fine. |
JenMarie, I pmed you
|
Been there
I have been there. Just last week I was cut from 4 out of 6 sororities on the first cut. I didn't cry or anything, but I was surprised at the time. Luckily, my favorite was still on the list along with one that I admired a lot. Hopefully there will be someone on your list that will make all the difference for you.

Well guys, I dropped out of rush. Apple was the only one that invited me back today and I just really haven't felt all that comfortable in their house. It's just been kind of awkward there and I didn't feel like I could find my home there. I am not going to rush next spring just because I feel like rushing three times would be excessive, though I did put my name on a COR list. I don't know if anything will come of that, but I will certainly post it if I do attend any COR events.
On a more positive note, I've realized that I really don't need a sorority to define myself or make me happy. True, I'm sure I could have made a lot of new friends and I would have had a lot of fun service activities, but I hope that I will be able to find that through other venues on my campus. Thank you all so much for your support through this. edited to make it purple |
I am so sorry things didn't turn out the way you wanted them to.
My heart is going out to you right now.:( Good luck in all that you do and maybe COR will present a new opportunity. |
{{{{huggles}}}} for you.
hang in. deep breathes and realize you are indeed a terrific person. the rest of it will take care of itself. |
Copacabana, you have such a lovely attitude - I'm glad that you signed up for COR! NO ONE knows which house will take how many women, and you never knows what will happen.
Good luck in finding your niche at school! |
I'm sorry.:(
Take time for yourself and regroup. |
I just responded to your PM before I read this. :(
Sorry to hear about recruitment. But I'm sure you'll find your campus activity niche somewhere. Don't forget... there are sports, clubs and such to join too! Keep your chin up and good luck with COB if you chose to take that path. Keep us posted. :) |
Hey! I figured the time was right for an update...
So I was getting pretty disappointed since I haven't gotten any calls for COR, and I know that some of the chapters I wanted aren't doing COR. BUT just a few minutes ago when I was walking back to my dorm from getting dinner, I ran into this girl from my rush group that I'd made friends with but hadn't seen since rush. Turns out she joined banana and loves it, and they're having a COR event tomorrow night! She invited me to come and I'm getting excited-- I've always liked banana because the girls seem so genuine and smart. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it's really exciting so it's hard not to! |
Well thats great. Best of luck to you.
|
Good luck with COB :)
|
Ooh. Fun. Good luck with that tonight.
|
Oh I am sooooooo soooooo happy for you!!! I'm so glad your still here *hugs* Good luck girlie! I'll be sending you happy thoughts all day!!!! :D
|
Soo...I just got back from the COR party with BANANA and I feel like it went pretty well. A lot of the girls in the house remembered me and I had fun, but I was kind of burned out (I hope I didn't seem too antisocial! I was just so tired). I got a house tour and everything which was awesome...and now the waiting begins! *holds breath*

COR is so nerve-wrecking! All the waiting and wondering "will I get a bid?" I went to 3 COR events for Sigma and I remember the ENTIRE weekend wondering "will they pick me?" Good luck!
|
My fingers are crossed for you sweetie.
