At the end, I REALLY wanted to go watch the next three in a row to see all the new pieces that would make more sense to me.

That is what my husband and I are about to do. Well, we maybe only get through ANH tonight, but I feel like I need some questions answered. I mean I was only 6 when it came out the first time. (I may be the only person in history to fall asleep during that movie in the theater in (i think) '76)

I am not a Star Wars Fanatic but I do appreciate the movies and I have enjoyed them all.

ASUADPi 05-22-2005 11:17 PM

I just saw the movie for the second time and she did say something to the effect that there is still good in him, him being Anakin. Then she just died.

OMG I still cried this time seeing the movie. :)

ms_gwyn 05-22-2005 11:25 PM

Yea I have to watch them all again myself.....I started to watch TPM yesterday, but decided to drive to napa instead...fun times.

I enjoyed that movie and now I am going to appreciate more.

I will see ROTS again sometime this week....now if I can only convince my father to go with me, that would be great, we've always seen the films in the theater together, but he didn't like the last one....sigh

One thing that just popped into my head. Who's bright idea was it to let Luke keep his last name? That is the best way for Vader to figure out who Luke is.

ms_gwyn 05-23-2005 02:39 AM

thats kinda funny!

After watching the film, I really pity Anakin. I really think he was just so in love with Padme that he thought he was doing the right thing and Palpatine got him hook line and sinker with false promises. However, there are two things that I can't forgive him for: the Younglings, and attacking Padme. I think he touched the Dark Side just intending to use it to try and save Padme, and it ended up consuming him. But I still can't forgive him.

This movie was just so heartbreaking. I was so proud of him at first for turning in Palpatine, but we all know what had to happen. I don't even think he intended for Mace Windu to die... I think he thought Mace was violating the Jedi code and that he really just wanted Palpatine alive long enough to find out the secret to saving Padme, and then to hell with him. I guess that's what I mean by pitying him. A few stupid mistakes and next thing you know, you've destroyed everything you stood for and loved. Glad I don't have that kind of power.

Yeah I feel bad for him too. He became Darth Vader because he wanted to SAVE the people he loved. He viewed (in later years) the rebellion and other jedi's as people trying to stop him from doing t hat. I think we've all been in that situation.

I was thinking that Sidous's masters was the Sith Lord in the story he told Anakin. The one who apprentice murdered in his sleep.

But my favorite line was Yoda talking to Sidous

(I know that it's not the entire line but I can't talk like Yoda)

If one is so powerful, then why do you leave?

He took the last name of his Uncle......Go figure.

Yes I know that, but Sith, if they are former jedi, are known to be renamed.....its just a theory, I have to see if I am correct.

And Uncle Owen's surname is Lars.....so yea, Luke SKYWALKER has his father's last name. Owen's Lars is Luke's uncle (step really), by the way of Cliegg Lars, Shmi's husband. Shmi married Cliegg after he bought her off of Watto and then freed her.

Damnit, I forgot all about that. Should've paid more attention to the first episode.

It might be a weak explanation but maybe Darth just figured that his child died with Padme.

Maybe Darth saw a picture of Luke and was like

"Hell no, not his punk ass".

:D

In episode 1, Qui-Gon commented to Anikan's mother that the Jedi may have found him sooner if he hadn't been all the way out "here". So maybe the fact that Luke was "all the way out there on Tatooine" kept him hidden.

And yes, I saw Episode 3 Saturday morning and then watched 4, 5 AND 6 on Sunday (on DVD) and 3 on Sunday night (on tv). Yes, I feel like I should live in the Republic.

AND.............

Ewan McGregor is HOT as Obi-Wan, that is all I will say.

ms_gwyn 05-23-2005 07:42 PM

you know with hayden sportin' the good boy gone wrong....he became a little bit of a cutie.....

oh and ewan....MOST definately HOT! HOT! HOT!

Um, ladies, let's get something straight here. Ewan McGregor is just plain HOT. ;)

I will totally admit that I have a mad crush on Hayden Christensen when he doesn't have the hippie long hair. And those abs! Please tell me those aren't cgi.

I was wondering that myself...damn!

Though I don't normally have a thing for him, Jimmy Smits was quite hot too.

SmartBlondeGPhB 05-25-2005 05:30 PM

Now to me it was the long hair that made them both hot. :D

Ewan's a little too clean cut for me in real life........

ANYTHING is better than that odd "flattop" single braid thing he had going on in Epi 2. BTW, he's in this month's InStyle. :D

If I buy it, I'll have to hide it. My boyfriend hates his guts. :(

He's kinda burried in the middle. Katie Holmes is on the cover and there's no real mention of him. I think you'll be safe.

AGDLynn 05-28-2005 08:50 AM

I didn't read any of the other posts, lol. Just wanted to say I just booked 3 IMAX tickets using Fandango! It will be totally cool if it all works out, lol.

PhiPsiRuss 05-28-2005 03:34 PM

I saw the movie twice. Overall it was an excellent movie, except for the romantic cheese. There's nothing wrong with romance if its done right. Lucas can't do it right.

Best bad ass moment was when Yoda felled the two chamber guards, with the flick of a Force powered wrist, in Palpatine's office near the end.

The acting ranged from god-awful ("I love you!" "No, I love you more!") to the amazing performance by Ewan McGregor near the end. His "you were my brother" speech clarified the Shakespearian quality of the movie. He deserves at least an Oscar nomination.

The best twist came when Darth Vadar learned that he killed Padme. She basically died of a broken heart because Anakin turned to the Dark Side to save her life. Lucas then pulled his Frankenstein homage, which was sort of cool. What he really should have done was present the clear Shakespearian tragedy that was there.

OK, here's what I've been wondering. In Episode III, we learn about Darth Plagues (who I think was Darth Sideous' mentor,) and how "he could create life." We also learn, in Episode I, that Anakin Skywalker's birth was a sort of immaculate conception. Could Darth Plagues have been Anakin's father, vis the Force?

ms_gwyn 05-28-2005 04:13 PM

I was wondering about Darth Plagueis myself....I still think he is (Jedi) Master Syfa Dyious and we know that Palpatine (implied) was Plegueis' apprentice. But he could have also made Anakin, this is where I need to go deeper into EU and see if there is any hint to this.

I really do not believe the spec that Palpatine is Anakin's father.

33girl 06-03-2005 12:21 PM

This has been bugging me all day.

I thought at the end of Return of the Jedi, when Anakin/DV was on the funeral pyre, he was wearing a white shroud and his feet (real feet, not DV feet) were sticking out. Did I imagine this?

Ian McDiarmid def deserves an Oscar nomination. He WAS this movie.

ASUADPi 06-04-2005 12:54 AM

I would pop the DVD in right now but it is at my house and I'm at my parents house until I'm completely moved in. I'll get back to ya on this (if someone doesn't beat me to it)
