Ladies, I have never been so touched by something that I was not physically apart of such as this. Amazing is all I can say. I had no idea how profound this event would be. If this touched us so through our television screens IMAGINE what that must have felt like in person. God bless Oprah for honouring these women while they lived & breathed. Beautiful.
|
That was simply WONDERFUL! Oprah should be applauded for her vision to honor our sheroes in the manner that she did. It was so touching to watch. Can you imagine what it must have been like to be there?!

Maria Shriver, no one was going to pass you the mic. Trust. You see no one gave Ashanti the mic. It was painful enough to listen to her interviews. Overall, the most tremendous display of African American giants I have ever witnessed. |

It also reminds me of the scene in Boomerang where Strange' enters the building with her white slaves carrying her @ an event. |
I'll be the first man to chime in. I was moved. Still speechless. I shed a tear. Yeah I said it.
|
Ditto to everything that's been said. I've been inspired to put together my own Legends event. The women in my life who have touched me may not be celebrities, but their love and commitment to sisterhood have impacted me just the same. Oh, and I cried my eyes out, too.
|
I would've picked boogers out of Cicely Tyson's nose just to be there.
|
I must admit I wasn't sure about the event when I saw the previews and advertisements, but sitting there watching it was absolutely beautiful! It brought tears to my eyes. It was very well done and not too over the top. I could have watched more, but I thought the one hour length kept it classy.

Seeing so many beautiful Black women that gave soooo much to us all just insipred me to :1 always remember what so many sacrificed so that we can be where we are today and 2. always know that i can truly do anything i put my mind to.
I loved the Sunday celebration....they tore it up!!!!! Peace and Love my Beautiful Black Sisters!!!!!!!!:D :D :D |

Aunt D? I dreamed about some of these women last night. I swear what Oprah did, no one else could have done and had it come out that way.:) |
I was in complete AWE!!!!!!!!! There are no word that can express how unbelievably beautiful it was to see all those BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMEN together. My hat off to Ms. Oprah. She did the dayum thing with such class and grace.:D
I did notice that Aretha was either not there or they didn't show her. Also Ms. Whitney was not there either. Those earrings she gave as gifts were just gorgeous!!!!!!!!! |
All I can say is thank you Jesus!! That was very well needed and appreciated. Oprah did her thang. These great women that paved the way for many people were recognized for all that they do/have done. I'm so glad that it was done while Coretta was alive. I'm also glad it went the way that Oprah wanted it to go as far as the legends realizing why she had the gathering and how they showed they really appreciated it. It was very emotional.

Oh my Stars..
It was a beautiful event...I wish I could have even been a server at the event just so i can say I was there..It certaintly made me look inside and see what more I can do in my everyday life. Sometimes I think our generation thinks because of all those that came before us and did what they have done, the battle is won. When I see parents molesting/abusing their own children, kids killing kids, and all the other things that make me wanna holla, I know the battle is far far from over.
WE SPEAK YOUR NAME......to the local women in our own lives that have made an impact on us....Thank you. :D |
I was in complete amazement during the special. Oh to have been there!!!!
I was cool until the Sunday brunch. I had a Holy Ghost moment just watching. You could truly see how real God was in the lives of those who sang. I loved that poem before it was used in this event but now, I would love to do something for my mother with it. Angela performed her piece of the poem! |
What a beautiful experience...
Bamboozled, that is such a great idea, to honor the legends in our lives. It's alright that you read my mind through the computer and took my idea and presented it as your own. I don't mind! ;) Just kidding...but that really is a spectacular idea. The entire show was so moving and soul-stirring! Oprah knows she can make folks cry.... |
I don't really care for Oprah so I wasn't too sure about it but....
It was beautiful! I just sat and stared at the TV in awe. I couldn't even move during the commercials. It made me so proud (prouder) to be a Black woman. Quote:

That was one of the greatest programs I've seen in a long time on prime time television. The weather was beautiful, everyone looked cool and comfortable. It was just great, I'm glad I took the time to stop and watch it last night.

I was so touched and inspired. Its amazing how you think you acknowledge those those inspire you on a daily basis but it is so different watching someone really show their honor and respect for real icons. I cried my eyes out! The Sunday Gospel brunch was breathtaking. I WISH I could have been there in person to see all of those women grab that mic and sing as beautifully as they did, with no notice!!! Truly amazing.
|
What would be nice is if someone would now do this for our African American men- in the same fashion- have the young honor those who came before them.

Hello Everyone...
Im not a frequent poster, but came on just to share this amazing moment with other people...I had to TIVO it becuase of work and just finished watching. That was absolutely amazing. I am completely touched and overwhelmed. It was history happening right before our eyes. Oprah did what we all wish we could do...and that was to thank the many people who paved the way for us. It was truly a moment I will remember for the rest of my life... #3-IAC-SPR05 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. |
I couldn't stop cryin'
It was truly an amazing sight to behold the legends and young'uns gathering. I cannot imagine the energy that was in that room the day when everyone showed up. Kudos to Oprah who is one of the people on this planet that I admire the most and one of the people that has been criticized by many of our people for "not doing enough" for our people. It was an affair to remember.
|
I "sent" Oprah an email, per her website. Maybe if many of us will send an email requesting: (1) To re-air the show; (2) To put an uncut version of the weekend on DVD; (3) all of the above, maybe she will feel inclined to do so or she will contact ABC to have the show repeated because of overwhelming responses from viewers.
Al Sharpton, this AM, on TJMS suggested that we use Memorial Day to not only pay homage to fallen soldiers, but also to those in our families/communities who are Legends as well. |

I was moved, inspired and honored by the program. I was honored that she would even put it out there for us to see. It definitely has made me dream bigger and honor the women in my life while they are here for me to enjoy.
I am a big fan of Oprah's and I could not stop crying because I truly believe that this was from her heart and not for show. I would have like to see Queen Latifah be involved because I think she is definitely a pioneer and would have appreciated being a part of that moment. I loved it and I taped so that I can watch it for motivation! |
Greek Observation
I am surprised no one made that observation that most of the Legends are Greek women whereas very few of the Young'Uns are Greek and of those they are the 'older' ones. What does this say, if anything, about our organizations and their role in individual success and relevance in this generation?
