I forgot to put my baby names if we are ever blessed with little bundles of joy. My first daughter will be named after my mother. I am the oldest and am named after my maternal grandmother. My first son will share a name with my fiance his father. I would like a Junior.
My fiance likes trendy names like Madison and Morgan, but I don't. Oh yeah, last I heard Tinkerbell is an attorney. Her parents let her older sister, who was only 2 at the time, name her. I also knew a Cinnamon. |
Carnation-I had a sorority sister named Piper!! (and her biological sisters, who were also ADPis were Ginger and Penny!) We also had a Mindy, Freda, Skye, Honey, and Starr!! Roll call at meetings was hilarious-very few Kathys or Sues. :)

Belle, Carnation, when I was a pledge, of course we had to memorize every sister's name. We had eight Mary Something's (my favorite was Merrilee), and ten Kathy/Cathy/Kathie's!
This is why I like unusual names! |
I LOVE this thread!
OK, so I know this family who's children's names are Bambi, Heidi, and I can't remember the other one. Apparently, they REALLY loved the storybook characters. I also went to HS with girls named Lovely and Unique. I could write a whole page on weird names...maybe we should start a thread for that! BACK ON TOPIC Girl favorites: Lilly/Lillian (too popular now though) Maggie Molly Imogene (though it's too old fashioned I think) Boy favorites: Brett Nolan Owen (the hubby's favorite) |
ForeverDiamond, I know about students I taught ruining some of my favorite names!! Isn't that amazing how connotations of words can be so strong!! As for Emilee, my number one name pick for daughter #2 was Emma, because an ADPi in my chapter had that name, and she was the ultimate, beautiful, soft-spoken, slow-drawling, perfect mannered Southern Belle. Unfortunately, "Emma" had begun to be extremely popular, and, as it turns out, another couple who was also adopting from China and who lives in our town, also named their daughter Emma, something I wasn't aware of, as we were just acquaintances at the time. Turns out Emma and Lesley are best friends at the same school, and often end up in the same class!! There's also another Chinese third-grader who lives here, and they named her LiAnne-her mother's name, Anne, and part of her Chinese name. Anyway, I'm glad we didn't go with Emma!!

Now that I've finally caught a break with classes and tests I can add to this thread. I LOVE baby names, I'm obsessed, seriously, it's sad. (I have a book full of my favorite names, furniture, clothes, strollers, etc...[think Monica from Friends's wedding book) lol.... yeah I'm 20, haha, but comeon, who doesn't get excited thinking about all these things?
My friends always joke and say since I'm "the most patient person on earth", I'm going to have 12 kids. lol- So the list is pretty lengthy. Girls: Taylor, Mackenzie, Brittany, Mikalia, Elizabeth, Ashleigh, Madison, Lily Boys: Kyle, Connor, Cameron, Bryan, Steven, Nicholas, Tyler, Benjamin, Matthew |
I mentioned this thread to mr. honeychile last night, and how much I liked the name Ethan. His response was, "You couldn't do that to our child, could you?!" Ethan is a lovely name, it just sounds so wrong with mr. honeychile's last name! *sigh*

Mr. FAF is a Junior and wants a "Trey." Not thrilled by that. Not that "Edward Martin FirstAndFinest, III" is so horrible, but did I mention that our CAT is named "EddieBoy"??? I told him there was NO WAY I'd let my son tell his teachers that his CAT has the SAME NAME he has!! Of course, these talks are jumping the gun... ;) |

BREAK SUBJECT OF BABY NAMES
I cant top the crazy names for kids so far. I went to school and there were three sisters in different grades Velvet 1 yr younger Satin 3 yrs younger Cotton not in school yet and I am not making this up . . . they had a sister born later when I was in highshcool and her mom named her Poly Esther. (sp?) Come on that is wrong on so many levels. Also, I worked @ the childcare management agency when I was in college and the names I saw their you wouldn't believe. (for example, sisters named "America" and "Africa") RETURN TO BABY NAMES |

ETA: A colleague in Ohio makes fun of the way I say "on." "Owwwww nnnnn," he says it sounds. For me, the words "on" and "lawn" rhyme - and have {almost} two syllables! |
My dh and I are expecting our first in November, and I read this thread to him. We are waiting until we find out the sex of the baby before we start seriously debating names, but in the meantime, he's thinking that Buddy is a great name. He said "No one on there has suggested Buddy. You should post it." So here I am, posting it.
This is the same guy who when we were watching CSI Miami said "That's what we could name the kid: Horatio." He does this to horrify me. This will be much worse than when we couldn't agree on names for the dogs! |

Feel free to stop in again, especially when you know more about the baby!! |

It could be worse. My brother wanted (and might still want) to name is firstborn son Happy G. You got that right!!!!! I yelled at him and said there was no way in HELL I was calling my "hypothetical" nephew Happy G. |

Thanks for commiserating with me, ladies. :) |
My friend's last name is Lowe, and he announced last night that he's going to name his first born child "Giga" so the cild's name will be Giga Lowe. I was horrified.
My brother wants to name his son "Ron Jeremy". Seriously. What is wrong with these people? |
One of the baby magazines that I get had an article on why you chose your baby's name--the one that I liked best was from a father who named his son Luke--so he could stand at the crib and say "Luke, I am your father" - just like Darth Vader. It took a lot of convincing for my husband not to do the same! :D
|
Honey said to stop in when I knew more, and I do!
IT'S A BOY! Now the naming fun begins... we have a fairly common last name, so that excludes a lot of possibilities. |

Thanks ladies! Though I would have loved to have a legacy, at least I can dress him in blue and blue. You all can relate, huh? What baby boy doesn't look great in azure and white? ;)

I'm sure your little guy will look adorable! You'll have so many wonderfully non-overused names at your disposal, with a common last name!! |

Ok, because I have been trying to be productive lately I have been avoiding this thread... Well now I have decided to stop that and join...
So first of all someone a while back commented on same names in chapters... Well my chapter was horrible... At one point their were 4 different Megan M's... We finally had to start refering to them by their last names... But we did joke that our chapter was full of M&Ms... Now for names I like... I love the name Kaylee... unfortunately I cannot use it because it is too similar to my nieces name (Kayla)... I also love the name Nicole... But the problem here is a good friend of Mr. nauadpi and myself is named Nicole... I think she would take it to her head that we were naming a daughter after her... I do also like the name Octavia, using Tavia for short... But my husband is not real sure on that one... The hard part I am having with my husband is that he keeps wanting one of our future children's initials to be S.O.B... Our last name starts with a B if you couldn't guess... So on purpose he will come up with names that will fit those initials... One of these days I will break him from the habbit... Now for a little girls middle name, there is a good chance it will be Lynn... It is a family middle name... Most of us have it... Now if you can't tell I really have no idea of first names for a boy... I have been trying to discuss this with my husband but he is being no help... I blame the game Sims 2 for this discussion to be coming up now... Since I am about to start grad school it will be a while before we have kids... |
The fun continues! Since we can't call the poor kid Buddy forever, we've started seriously thinking of names.
I started by finding the top 100 names for the US, our state, and the neighboring states for 2004 at the Social Security administration website. I'd like it if our son weren't one of three with the same name in his first grade class, but also not one of four in the phone book 20 years from now. So, any name in the top 20 is out! (We have a common last name.) BIL Derek is offering help. Since my FIL suggested Derek's name while watching a Boston Bruins hockey game (the player was Derek Sanderson), Derek has suggested we continue the tradition and name the baby after Cam Neely and Ray Bourque: Cameron Raymond. (No!) Then Derek suggested that we honor their mom by using her maiden name (Paton) and their dad by using his first name (Lawrence). Our last name begins with C. The resulting suggestion was Zachary Paton Lawrence C_______, and Derek recommends the nickname Ziploc. (That's out, since Zachary is #13 on our state's list. Phew!) DH is nixing a lot of the names I've liked (like Garrett) because "they're last names." I reminded him that our nephew Graham has a last name, and he said "No it's not." ??? So, it defies logic that he thinks Cooper would be a cool name. This one worries me a little, since height is not a dominant characteristic for either family. We don't want the poor kid being called "Mini Cooper" all through elementary school. Great car, but a tough nickname! |

Macon
Have you thought of using Macon for a little boy? We did and have gotten lots of comliments on it's uniqueness. It's a nice "tribute" to ADPi's birthplace.:)
