Adrienne was on the last season of Surreal Life (with Peter Brady & Mini-Me). She's just nutty, loud, and likes to be naked all the time. She's a little raw/abrasive...Brittney is more crazy/goofy.

I do think Adrienne was a better choice to win than the runner up, Shannon (wide eyed innocent who wouldn't do the nudie shoot). Her pictures were good and she changed a lot! But, I really liked the third runner up, Elise (med student with a 'tude).

DeeGeePrincess 04-28-2005 10:48 PM

I watched Season 1. Adrienne was really good. I liked all of her pics. Adrienne kinda looks like Liz Hurley but shes way better than Brittney. Brittney is aiiight. dont really care for her but shes entertaining!

I didnt like Yoanna tho and i never saw the sephora advertisement that she supposedly won.

As for Christina...i dont really like her. Her face is so pointy and i dont think shes very pretty.

tri-d 04-29-2005 10:54 AM

Well I may be one of the few, but I like Brittney. Yes, she is a bit wild and probably should take it down a notch or TEN, but she seems like she is a lot of fun. Plus I really think she has taken some great photos. I also like Kahlen--she seems a little plain in person, but she definitely can pull off the model look in her photos. Plus she is from OK which is close to my heart--though she made Broken Arrow (where she is from) out to be some country bumpkin town and it really is a rather large suburb of Tulsa.

LeslieAGD 05-05-2005 08:51 AM

I was hoping Keenyah would get the boot last night. She was such a jerk at the go-sees and at the dinner party. She was also snotty with her photo comments at judging.

ASUADPi 05-05-2005 09:40 AM

Can someone recap the eppy for me? I set my VCR up but for some reason it didn't record. GRRRRR.

Thanks

LeslieAGD 05-05-2005 11:33 AM

Recap

The girls got a Tyra mail challenge to meet these two ladies who talked to them about go-sees. The girls each got a list of ten contacts and they were given a driver and told to see as many as possible. They were told to be back promptly at 4:30.

They didn't show too much of Brittany's go-sees. They showed Kahlen fumbling questions and seeming "innocent" and they showed Christina staring blankly and not interacting much. Naima got strong compliments from all the contacts about her walk.

Then there was Keenyah, who got bratty in the "spirit" of competition. Naima arrived at a location before Keenyah did, and Keenyah rushed past her on the stairs and jumped to introduce herself to the client so that Naima had to wait. She did the same thing to Kahlen...they showed the two girls fighting at a door handle. Kahlen finally gave up and got back in the car to go to another contact.

When it was time to head back, Naima decided that she wanted to try to see all the contacts. She showed up 45 minutes late and got in trouble. Keenyah won the challenge and she chose Brittnay to go with her to an industry dinner party. Brittnay ended up "stealing the show" at the party and Keenyah was bitching that she shouldn't have brought Brittany and that she won the competition and there was no attention on her.

Then for their photo shoot, they had to go "kloofing" (hiking to the location) and make their own wardrobe out of grass, leaves, sticks, etc. They had to pose on rocks and look peaceful among the elements. Most of the girls struggled.

At judging, they made the girls critique each others photos to see what they've learned. Naima, Kahlen, and Christina were praised for their comments, Keenyah was taken to task for her personal (read: rude) remarks, and the judges felt like Brittany didn't learn anything because she just said she liked or didn't like the photos. Then they had to say who they thought was the most suited to win the competition and the least suited to win, which was very difficult for all the girls...especially Naima and Kahlen who said Christina is the least likely to win, even though they both like and respect her more than Keenyah and Brittany.

Then the judges commented on the photos. They singled Naima out again about her pictures and personality. They said that her pictures were beautiful but always shot 3/4 or profile. The photo from this episode was full-face and it wasn't very strong. They told her she needs to open up more and, when she talked about her life and not wanting to be the person from the past, the judges gave her props for showing her true colors.

Then judges deliberated...Christina and Brittany were bottom two. (Tyra told Janice to stop "frontin"...that she only likes Brittany because she reminds Janice of herself). Tyra told Brittany she needs to control herself and pay more attention durning judging; that she doesn't know anything about the modeling business. They told Christina the opposite...that she had a better understanding than many upcomming models, but that she comes off as cold and unexpressive. Christina is sent packing.

I can't remember what the scenes were for next week...
Can someone trigger my memory, please?

I totally agree. That shit prolly won't fly if she were to win the competition. Wouldn't you want to be liked by the rest of the models and not hated? I know it's a competitive market but you can do that without being a total 12 year old snot.

Besides that I just don't like her and I don't understand how the girls could have said that she'd be the best choice as winner.

Unregistered- 05-05-2005 07:04 PM

Naima really does look like she came from outside space. I hope she doesn't win it.

I hope to see a Kahlen/Brittany final. I really don't have a favorite this season, it just seemed so BORING.

This leaves absolutely no suspense for the finale.

PM_Mama00 05-11-2005 10:41 PM

I'm curious still but NOT happy about a certain one STILL being there. After everyoen has seen the episode I'll go into more details on my opinion.

LeslieAGD 05-12-2005 08:57 AM

Keenyah was on my last nerve last night. Ugh! Everything she did annoyed me. I can't believe the judges didn't send her home last night. It bugs me that the judges harp on a contestant about something for weeks and don't eliminate her. They've told her for at least three weeks that she's getting model-heavy, but she keeps cramming food in her face and she doesn't know how to pose her body to hide it.

And about Naima: the judges tell her they don't know who she is and she won't connect to her audience...welllllllllllll, she's obviously connecting to some people seeing as how she's won the "CoverGirl of the Week" for nine straight weeks.

Plus, this is a modeling contest, not just a personality contest; look at Brittany...the judges tell her to tone it down and the one week she's not acting crazy, they send her home.

PM_Mama00 05-12-2005 10:53 AM

Keenyah should be GONE. If they were looking at personality with Britney, then why haven't they looked at Keenyah's? I think there's an ulterior motive for her still being there, but being GC, I'm afraid to flat out say it.

ASUADPi 05-12-2005 11:31 AM

I was shocked that Keenyah wasn't sent packing. I was appalled by her playing the racism card in front of the other girls. Now it's not to say that someone shouldn't be proud of their heritage but Niama is park Black too and Niama was such a bee-atch to her, trying to say that she isn't Black. Hello who are you to tell someone what and what not their heritage and ancestry is!!!!!!!

Plus, OMG I don't want to sound all "smarty pants" but how the HELL could they not know that 46664 was Nelson Mandela's number!!!! I know it. As soon as the number was read I was like "oh Nelson Mandela". I also have to agree with Brittnay's assesment of Keenyah. Keenyah was all hot to trot thinking she was the shit because she is Black and that she was getting all this attention from the locals (ie. them "welcoming her home"), but how could she not know who Nelson Mandela is or if he were alive or not. So I don't blame Brittnay for yelling at her, I just wanted too also.

I have a feeling in the end it will be Niama who wins (even though I really don't want her too, heck none of the girls really stand out to me in the first place). I would prefer Kahlen but she has absolutely no backbone. She still walks around with no self confidence, still thinking she isn't beautiful and that she isn't sexy. She is so introverted and reserved, I just don't think she will be able to handle being a top model. Keenyah is getting on the pudgy side and I have to agree with what others were saying, she has been warned time and time again to watch what she is eating but she is still downing the french fries and the chocolate. I don't like Niama's mohawk, that's so the 70's. IMPO.

I liked Brittnay (out of all the four left). I think it is totally lame that in weeks past they (the judges) were bitching and telling Brittnay to calm down with her personality but then they boot her last night because hers is dwindling but Niama's is stifled. WTF?!? It seems to me it would be easier to bring someones personality back that is dwindling then having to act like a therapist and try to bring out someones personality who has been stifling it for 8 weeks? Boy the judges weren't really using their brains. IMPO.

I don't think it's that strange that they wouldn't know that number off the top of their heads. When I first saw it, I thought that maybe it was a zipcode and they were returning to the States. Then I remembered the commercial and realized what the number was.

33girl 05-12-2005 01:13 PM

I had no idea that was Nelson Mandela's number.

Does anyone else think Janice was mighty pissed off at this decision and won't be back next season?

She might have been ticked, but I still think she'll be back next season.

I totally agree that Keenyah should be gone. I was very surprised that Britt and Niama were in the bottom two. I really expected it to be Keenyah and Kahlen. I am hoping Kahlen ends up winning but I think that the final two are going to be Niama and Keenyah.

Anyone else feel that this season just isn't as exciting as previous ones?

I know I'm gona get flamed but I don't care cuz I'm sure there are others out there that agree.

Let's face the facts. As a model, she sucks. She doesn't really look like model material, like her face and whatever. Brittany kicked so much more ass than she did. Keenyah has gained weight and hasn't been following suggestions and whatever on what to do. They have to airbrush her pictures and she is forced to suck it in when taking her pics. Her personality sucks a big fat one, too.

Honestly. I think she's still there because she is African American. I have no basis for that, but when you look at how much she sucks all over, why else would she still be there?

No - although it sounds bad - you're not the only one who thinks that. It's such a shame that many African Americans have been portrayed themselves negatively (read: b*tchy/superior) on the show (Ebony, Robin, Camille, Yaya, Brandy, Tiffany, and obviously Keenyah) but seem to stick around anyway. I wish ANTM had more positive Black contestants, like Mercedes, Toccara, and Naima.

Note: yes, there are b*tchy/superior white, hispanic, asian, etc. girls featured on the show too...but they seem to get cut a lot sooner

Unregistered- 05-15-2005 05:07 AM

I have to disagree with the whole "Keenyah's only there still because she's black" theory. This Affirmative Action idea is just plain BS, I'm sorry. I think she's shown more progress and consistency than both Kahlen and Naima. Should she win, I think she may even show more promise than last year's winner, Eva.

I'd be happy if either Keenyah or Kahlen won. Naima's just plain boring and too painful to look at.

OTW, I think everyone sees the contestants differently. Can you explain how you think Keenyah has progressed over the course of the show? I guess I just don't see it.

To me, Naima is consistent. She takes strong pictures every week and she knows how to pose her body.

I also think Kahlen has progressed the most. She is a chameleon, able to evoke exactly the right emotion for each of the recent photo shoots.

From my perspective, I don't see Keenyah improving at all. Yes, there's the weight thing, but that's not her only weakness. She doesn't know how to pose her body...one example: the animal challenge, she and Michelle where the only two who didn't "embody" their animal but rather just posed like it was any other shoot. Also there's her look; the judges say she has a "pretty face," but there's no emotion, no fire in her photos. And she's not very professional...examples: pushing girls out of the way at go-sees, flirting with male model then saying he's being inappropriate, staring Brittany down all night at an industry party because she's "hogging" the spotlight. When I add all these things up, I can't believe she wasn't eliminated weeks ago.

epchick 05-16-2005 11:44 AM

I can correlate the last season with these final 3. For example... I think Amanda and Naima are so much alike. They take gorgeous pictures, but in person, they are lacking something. I like Naima, but I do feel she is bland.

Keenyah and Yaya are alike also. They have that arrogance about them. Yaya had that whole "afrocentric" idea, and Keenyah feels that she deserves everything because she's "black." She refuses to even recognize that Naima is black also. She said it in the show, she said she can't think that Naima is black because she doesn't look it.

Kahlen is the harder one to place. She is like Amanda because when she's up in panel, she does have a blandness to her, but Kahlen is improving.

I honestly hope Kahlen wins, she is more like me, real quirky and such.

I don't think that Keenyah is there because she is black, because like I said, so is Naima. I don't know how Robin was "negative." Wasn't she the one that refused to take off her clothes in a shoot because she wasn't comfortable with it? She was the real religious one also, that would say "Oooh Jesus, Jesus" when they put the snake on her right? How is that negative? Maybe because I dont remember it all, but I thought she showed will-power and showed that she can still hold firm ot what she believed.

Also, EVERYONE'S photos get airbrushed....Tyra said it. When she told Keenyah that they really had to airbrush that animal photo, she said something to the effect of "We had to airbrush it so much more than all the other girls" or something like that. So Keenyah's pictures aren't the only ones getting airbrushed. Airbrushing is a reality of the business...everyone gets airbrushed.

I also don't think Keenyah was really "flirting" with the guy. She was talking to the guy, trying to be nice...but the guy was really the one trying to flirt with her, by asking for her number and such.

ASUADPi 05-16-2005 02:07 PM

Is it me or has this season been really lacking? Last season I loved Amanda. Maybe it was because she is going blind or maybe it is because she took gorgeous photos I'm not sure.

I bought season 1 and OMG I loved Adrienne from the beginning (even though I knew she was the winner).

I can honestly say that with season 1, even if I hadn't known that Adrienne was the winner I would have been rooting for her because her photos were amazing.

It seems to me that no one really stands out this season as in past seasons.

Although out of all of them I hope Kahlen wins but she really needs to get a backbone. She needs to get her self-confidence, realize that she is beautiful and stand up for herself.

Keenyah just needs to go away.

As for airbrushing, why the heck are they doing it? Isn't it supposed to be a competition? Why are they airbrushing Keenyah's mistake? (i.e. not watching her weight). Maybe it's just me but since it is a competition it seems like they should't be doing the airbrushing. IMPO.

Exactly! I don't know why they are airbrushing the pictures, they should let the girls know exactly what their photo looked like, but I guess they think they gotta make it look professional. And professional=airbrushed. Who knows, that whole idea that Keenyah's pictures were airbrushed just kinda blew my mind. I mean I knew they were touching up the airbrushing...but they should have just left the stomach like it was, so that Keenyah could see how she really looked. To me, she didn't look like she had gained weight...it didn't look bad to me, and that leaves a false impression to her. But yeah.

I really liked season 2. I had been rooting for Mercedes the whole way and was really dissapointed that Yoana got it...even though I see Mercedes on several commercials now.

I think they airbrush the photos so the girls can have them for their portfolios.
I do think that during judging, they should show the original untouched version.

tri-d 05-17-2005 06:26 PM

I was sad that my girl Brittany got the boot--she did have a lot of personality, but I thought she had some of the best photos--as does Kahlen--at least I still have one favorite to root for!

LeslieAGD 05-18-2005 09:40 PM

Yay! :D

ASUADPi 05-18-2005 11:01 PM

I think they just made the absolute WORST choice!!!! Let's pick the person who sucked with her photos but managed to pull it out during the runway over the person whose photos were amazing but who "didn't command the runway". WTF!!!!!! These women will probably spend more time doing shoots than runway they should have chosen the person who gives goregeous pictures.

I think they just made the worst decision.

I have never been a Niama fan (um yeah the Mohawk is so 80's).

I am throughly disappointed in the judges right now. I think they just made the worst decision.

I hope that Kahlen manages to get a contract with some other agency who realizes what a beautiful person she is and what beautiful pictures she takes.

kddani 05-18-2005 11:05 PM

I really thought they'd pick Kahlen. Her photos were SO much better, and it's not like she did poorly on the catwalk.

Keenyah's photos were HIDEOUS when they were going through them, but I LOVED her Cover Girl shot and her in the commercial. I thought she looked SO much better than she had before. She really looks pretty.

Namia or however you spell it... she creeps me out. I thought she was too much at the show. The show's about the clothes, not about the models. Also scares me in her pics

LeslieAGD 05-19-2005 06:21 AM

I guess I'm the only one who's happy about the choice. Until last night's episode, I did think Kahlen would win. She takes beautiful photos...but in the competitions where she had to work with male models or talk, she wasn't so great. Naima had half great pictures and half okay pictures, but she really stole the show last night. She's more confident and well spoken in person and her CoverGirl shot and runway were wonderful!

It really just depends on what they're "groomed" to do. For example, Season 1 and 2 winners Adrienne and Yohanna seem to do mostly runway work; I've never seen them in any print work. Eva, Season 3's winner, is sponsored by CoverGirl, so she does a lot of TV spots (like the "my life as a CoverGirl") and guest appearances. Naima, as Season 4's winner, will probably be a more of a spokesmodel like Eva.

33girl 05-19-2005 11:02 AM

I am SO not happy about this decision. I'm also wondering how far ahead of time this is filmed and if it's all over by the time people are voting for the "cover girl of the week."

They should change the name of this show to "Cover Girl's Next Spokesmodel, sponsored and controlled by Cover Girl" and be done with it.

Kahlen will be in print mags for years - Naima will be a flash in the pan.

tri-d 05-19-2005 01:38 PM

I really thought Kahlen was going to win--so disappointing. I do think that Kahlen could go on though--I actually was shopping the other day and saw some picture of a model in a sunglass store and thought it was Kahlen! I think the whole covergirl of the week thing is what made Naima the winner. I just really wasn't that impressed with her after like week 2.

This is what I was thinking. I think the judges knew that Kahlen actually has more model potential than Naima. Kahlen's pictures were better and, as kddani points out, she was pegged as one of the best catwalkers from the start. She takes better pictures, has the walk, and Janice even insisted that Kahlen has a better proportioned body for the swimsuit modeling.

I have a feeling the whole CoverGirl sponsorship played a major part in deciding who won. If being a spokesmodel wasn't a part of the prize package, then Kahlen probably would have won. As it is, Naima did better on that account and thus they picked her so as to not upset the sponsor (by giving them a girl who has a hard time delivering her lines).

I'm not sure I agree with you on the "more confident and well spoken" statement. I recall a few times where the judges commented that Naima's presentation was flat, boring and that "they didn't know who she was". I kind of got the impression that Naima was forcing herself to "open up" for the sake of winning during that last episode. She knew she had to "fix" her introspectiveness or else lose. I have a hard time believing that someone who was just sooo mysterious and closed off for weeks and weeks was all of a sudden peppy and outgoing. Kudos to her though for knowing how to meet their expectations.

With all of that said, I'm not completely disappointed that Naima won. I wanted Kahlen to win, but I think that Naima is very interesting and I hope she does great. I am certain that Kahlen will kick butt in the modeling world - *someone* is going to offer her a big, fat contract I'm sure! (and she won't have to jump around in CoverGirl commercials!)

I disagree that Kahlen has a better walk than Naima. IMO, Naima stole the whole runway show. As Tyra would say, she "owned" it, she was "fierce."

While I was watching the recap show, I remembered how much more spunky and outgoing Naima was at the beginning. I know she closed up for a lot of the competition, but I don't think she was "faking it" for the CoverGirl shoot. It was very natural...I just think she was opening up a part of herself.

epchick 05-23-2005 12:35 AM

I have to agree and say that Kahlen was jipped. I mean all the judges said that Kahlen had either one of the best, or THE best portfolio of all the America's Next Top Model seasons...and what happened?

I like Naima, but I dont think that she should have won. I thought to myself, If I saw those Covergirl pictures in a magazine, which girl would make me want to go out and by the product more. Well my answer was Keenyah, with Kahlen a close second. I think that picture was great...it wasn't a "posed" shot like Naima, it was one of those pictures you would take when you are just having fun. I thought Kahlen performed awesome during the runway show, and I really didn't like Naima's performance.

To me, Kahlen has more longevity in this business and although she didn't win the contest, I think she's gonna go far. I mean, I dont see any of the other winners doing anything (except for Eva), i'm always seeing the runner's up on commercials and stuff (except for Yaya).
