I agree. However, in theory, we will hear them when they arrive in Hollywood.

hottytoddy 01-25-2005 09:11 PM

What a weird goth dude.

MiamiADPi 01-25-2005 11:22 PM

I missed Idol tonight..... anyone great or anyone absolutey horrible?

chideltjen 01-26-2005 02:46 AM

I agree with hottytoddy: that goth guy WAS weird... as were others.

I don't think anyone was that memorable. However the first dude that everyone loved, and then the cameras followed him to church later... I think the judges found their golden boy. I mean, they already named him "Randy's favorite." Who knows. I'll keep my tinfoil hat ready though.

They had another girl on there that wasn't too bad either. She was a nice metzo/alto. And she didn't scream her notes, which was refreshing. Her name was Lindsey and her outfit was cute.

There was a minister guy that auditioned. He had really pretty eyes... but nothing special in the voice department.

And there was a guy that was Crunk... I won't go any further than that because that's all you need to know. (But he didn't need 10 minutes of the show that's for sure.)

Seriously though... AI needs to stop sending Twins through. And if twins want to be seperated from each other, they need to not AUDITION together. I had no simpathy for the twins that didn't make it and were all pissed about it. If you get all high and mighty about how you are different and want to be individuals and you don't dress alike blah blah whiney cakes, then you need to break the umbilical cord and audition as INDIVIDUALS.

And the twins they let through weren't that fab either.

Viva Las Vegas tomorrow...

tinydancer 01-26-2005 10:04 AM

I can't say as I thought Gene Simmons added a whole lot to the group. However, I'm not especially a fan of his.

Senusret I 01-26-2005 10:10 AM

CRUNK dude was off the hook....

What did he say about his teeth? "These are for television, and these are for mom and dad?" (When removing his gold teeth...)

He was too funny! I think his exact quote was "These are for TV, and these are for your Momma and Daddy."

shadokat 01-26-2005 12:06 PM

I haven't posted yet because normally I wait until they get to Hollywood to start watching. Some of these folks are PAINFUL! But I had to post and say OH MY GOD!! Crunk dude was so funny....I was in tears laughing at that guy. And did anyone else notice that all the ministers can sing??? :) Hopefully we get some eye candy this year...last year was BAD for that. And let's all hope nobody like that football player guy makes it this time...I couldn't deal :)

P.S. WTF is Gene Simmons doing on American Idol?? I mean really...

I got the impression that twins were sort of forced to audition together. It definitely seemed to me that those twins that got cut and were all pissed off actually hadn't wanted to audition together. But if they both want to audition, I don't think it's fair to say that they shouldn't just because they are twins. So I think that if I'm right, and AI is making them go together, then AI needs to stop doing that. It's a stupid practice.

Also, I don't really understand why, when there were 2 yes's and 2 no's, the no's prevailed. Those twins would have gotten through had they auditioned in St. Louis, where there was no guest judge. That just doesn't seem fair to me at all.

That was something that bothered me also... I mean... you are taking the word of Gene Simmons. While entertaining, the guy was a prick half the time. Of course I thought it was dumb to have a rock star judge a POP STAR competition.

The Orlando Sentinel had a bit of a spoiler of sorts about tonight's episode:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/enter...l-home-entlife

Keep your eye on 2 Orlando singers on tonight's 'Idol'
The City Beautiful and Cleveland share billing on the popular series. Judges say competition is tough.

By Hal Boedeker | Sentinel Television Critic
Posted February 1, 2005

Orlando's big moment on television's most popular series will be abbreviated tonight. The City Beautiful shares the American Idol spotlight with Cleveland, and the hurricanes could be partly to blame.

The Fox reality series' visit to Orlando in August, between Charley and Frances, stunned producers.

"Turnout wasn't as much as in other cities," says executive producer Ken Warwick. "But we got some good kiddies there. The talent is there."

Keep your eye on two singers when the Orlando portion airs in the hour episode's second half. The program starts at 8 on WOFL-Channel 35.

"You've got one very good boy from Orlando and one very good girl," Warwick says. "There are two that are in the show that stay in the competition and do very well in it."

Because of the hurricanes, American Idol flew the top Orlando contenders to Las Vegas to sing for judges Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.

"We couldn't get the judges in because of the weather," Warwick says. "We've never had problems because of the weather."

The show was supposedly going to have ratings problems with its fourth edition. Reality series usually decline as they age. But 33.6 million tuned in to the Jan. 18 season premiere, the biggest audience this season for an entertainment program.

The next three episodes have averaged more than 26 million. The Tuesday and Wednesday editions of Idol have become the No. 1 and 2 series this season, overtaking CSI and Desperate Housewives.

Abdul says this competition will be tighter than last season, when eventual victor Fantasia Barrino was an obvious contender.

"This time around, you're going to have a tough time saying goodbye to these kids," Abdul says. "They are that good. . . . And I think because of Fantasia winning, she kind of woke up the ones who would be skeptical about auditioning."

Cowell likes the contest's unpredictability and says he never would have given Clay Aiken a contract at first sight. (Aiken was the runner-up to winner Ruben Studdard in the second edition.)

"I would have been wrong, because the competition has turned him into a star," Cowell says. "I don't want 24 people who all look like what our perception of pop stars is. It should be the American musical dream, this show, where someone who wouldn't have been given a chance, like Clay, gets to do well."

Jackson predicts that a boy will win this year. Warwick hopes for a more balanced competition between the sexes than last year, when Barrino and other women dominated.

The show visited seven cities for auditions, and six of the stops were new. American Idol devoted full episodes to Washington, St. Louis, New Orleans and Las Vegas. It will do the same Wednesday with San Francisco, the only repeat stop from last year.

Abdul and Jackson agree that New Orleans and St. Louis were the standouts. The show has seen about 103,000 hopefuls this year.

In Orlando, the show heard many theme-park employees and a good deal of Broadway and movie music.

"Disney-esque themes are very popular," Warwick says.

"It was better than I thought it was going to be," Jackson says.

In Central Florida, American Idol also drew some strange performers, and those singers tend to boost the ratings in the early rounds because of their shock value.

"Wherever we go, we get off-the-wall characters," Warwick says. "They're delusional. You can't say, 'You're no good.' They're not having it."

So how did Orlando stack up to the other stops?

"Pretty well," Warwick says, "considering the turnout was mitigated."

ASUADPi 02-01-2005 11:05 PM

Okay I actually wrote "notes" about some of the people who sung tonight.

Cleveland

Sara: Loved her. He he. Loved her voice. I don't think the song she sung (I could have danced all night) was appropriate for the competition though. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED her comment "I don't think you have to be a barbie". LOL. GO HER!!!!!!!! I wanted her to make it just for that comment.

Scott: Wow he was actually pretty good. He made me realize that I love LL as a guest judge. Although I have to be honest, he didn't have "the look" but he had a great voice.

Jennifer: OMG what was that about!!!!?????!!!!! ADPiShannan, girl I'm sooooooo sorry that she came from Brecksville.

The Jackson Sisters: Not good at all.

Briana: Well loved her automatically because of the name (although mine is spelled with two "n's"). Plus, I have NEVER heard anyone sing that high and actually sound amazing and I've been singing since I was in fifth grade. I've heard people screech to those notes but never obviously sound decent. Plus, I loved her hair and clothes. TOTAL INDIVIDUAL. I definately will be rooting her on in Hollywood.

Orlando

Eschine: OMG she was butchering a Whitney Houston song. Now that is pretty sad when I personally believe Whitney butchers her own songs.

Ryan: OMG and not in a good way

Vonzell: Loved her voice, loved her clothes. She was awesome. Another person I will be rooting on in Hollywood.

chideltjen 02-02-2005 02:07 AM

Ok... so he was cute... but he ain't no Clay. (So I'm biased... sue me!)

But I think Anthony is the dork I will be rooting for this year. His voice is ok... better than most and he's a cutie. Knowing 19E, they'll make him invest in contacts... even though I thought the glasses were good.

ETA: Ooook, after reading TWoP about last night, people have been dubbing him Clay Potter... which is the funniest thing I've ever heard. (i.e. Clay Aiken 3.0 + Harry Potter gone blond = Antoley (Anthony) Federov.)

Moving on...

Briana was kick ass. I don't know where she would fit in on country night, but I could see her becoming an Amy Lee. I hope that's a good thing.

Sara Sue... the funny thing is that spoilers were showing her going through to Hollywood. There was a picture of her with a yellow "on to Hollywood" paper. Conspiracy? But I loved her attitude about the whole thing. I think if she had chosen a different song, she would have gotten through. But they pegged her as being Broadway (looks aside.)

Didn't dig Farmer boy... I dunno... maybe it was the orange skin and overalls. And he sounded nervous.

In Orlando... WTF was up with the "White Boys" girl? She was definitely a theater girl. Same goes for dancer boi... I didn't think he was that fab either. Good performers... bad singers.

LL was a nice judge too. Honest and the hugs were cool too. But the Jackson sister group hug was set up... that was just over the top cheesy.

SF tomorrow! WOO HOO. Apparently the Other "I'm an individual" twin comes to SF. His brother went back to Vegas and made it.
And two guys that were on last year apparently are back in SF. Watch for Rodrigo and Donnie.

ZTAngel 02-02-2005 09:16 AM

I'm a huge fan of Scott and Anthony. I guess I like the dorky boys. :) I was AMAZED when Scott started singing because I thought he was going to be one of the contestants that has an embarrassing performance. He had one of the best voices I've heard so far on AI4. I'm rooting for him. Anthony was good, too, but he definitely was no Clay Aiken!

ETA: I'm sad that they only showed 15 minutes of Orlando but I think the auditions were right before Hurricane Charley hit so they might not have a lot of footage.

After reading TWoP, they DID cut the auditions in Orlando because of the hurricanes. Instead, people sang in front of producers and the best ones got shipped out to Vegas to sing in front of the judges. I didn't see the Vegas episode, but I heard a lot of good singers came out of there. This is why they cancelled the supposed Alaska auditions... because Vegas was so big.

shadokat 02-02-2005 03:47 PM

OK, stupid question, but when the hell is this part over and we move on to Hollywood???

DeltaSigStan 02-02-2005 05:43 PM

I'm in the minority of people who only enjoy the bad ones, so does anyone have any stats on if the ratings drop, rise, or stay after the auditions?

AXO Alum 02-02-2005 10:16 PM

Okay - so this sounds really insensitive, but I don't know how else to ask it...

The really big girls from last night (the ones that were "arguing" back and forth about which was the next idol) -- they both got cut. Well tonight, when they were showing the "best moms" clip, the one girl (the first one that sang last night) was there with the yellow paper. I know that was her from last night - anyone else see it?

I saw that too, and was very confused. But, when they first showed the girls before they sang I was already thinking she looked extremely familiar.

So the auditions are finally over. Next week we get to see "Hollywood boot camp." Oh, the drama.

shadokat 02-03-2005 12:16 PM

I don't think she's going...she was the WORST of those two. Could've been anyone's paper. Was anyone else laughing hysterically at the other twin showing up in San Fran and getting totally blown out of the water? Man, that was classic...

I was hoping to catch it but i was too late to see the Cleveland Tryouts on American Idol 4. It's nice to see someone from our area going to hollywood.

So, the Freddy Mercury sounding guy last night? I thought he was horrible! And I thought he sounded like a bad impersonator? Why on earth did everyone like him so much?!?!?

ZTAngel 02-03-2005 01:12 PM

I'm cracking up at the nicknames that TWoP has for the judges:

Cowell By Name, Foul By Nature
Paula Abdul: Better Living Through Chemistry (apparently TWoP thinks she's on all kinds of crazy drugs)
Randy Jackson: Life's a Journey. Bring a Thesaurus.

chideltjen 02-03-2005 01:14 PM

Anyone from Indiana?

Because I found this article interesting...

BTW, this was the picture I was talking about in my previous post. I just want to know if this paper is reliable.

I only caught half of last night and I'm RELIEVED that the auditions are over.

JP Molfetta is freaky... Simon's right, he's desperate. And the whole "I'm in the recording studio with my brother" segment was skeevy. Gave me the creeps for some reason.

Justin and his crazy stage mom: that CRACKED me up. I mean I'm sure his mom was real excited but it also seemed staged by 19E. But Justin's facial expressions were hilarious.

I liked the one girl with the cool shirt and the big hair... I think her name started with an M. But the song choice was good so hopefully she'll make it far.

And the bad: The dude with the shades that said he would bet Simon he'd get a deal within 6 months and have a #1 album. For $50k? Wow... talk about delusional. Same goes for the 16 year old who heard something completely different than what was said and then couldn't figure out why she didn't get picked. She had this look of utter confusion. Classic!

Yeah was that   or what??!! Weird!!

The girl with the black net outfit was on the clip for next week crying her eyes out. I hope that means she is going home because she was just gross. And that mouth - ugh!! I'm like, please quit smacking your lips together. UGH!

I was so hysterical over the girl that said "Simon said I had more talent than anyone here" knowing that is NOT what he said -- okay, WTH was that?! I hope that all her friends are LTAO at her over that whole drama. I'll bet she pulled out the "they edited him saying that out so I would look bad" excuse. Kinda like the lame GC excuse of "my roomie logged on as me....really - I swear!"

The girl with the big hair (kinda a'la Sophia from BOS2) was absolutely, positively gorgeous! And she really could sing. I am in love with her, and the girl from the first week that was a single mom. Beautiful girls with great voices. I also love the guy from Tuesday(?) that said he was there to prove his dad wrong. Love him!

I also thought LL did a good job as a judge - he gave a lot of good feedback, and made them feel special for what they were doing. I liked that - not because I think that everyone needs to be touch-feely, but because he looked like he really meant it. He was my fav guest judge.

He auditioned, wasn't really that good, and Simon basically told him that there was "a hint of desperation about him." All the judges said no, and he was sent on his way very disappointed. He didn't curse this time, but I think he said something like, "I said if they cut me I would jump out the window, but that's not gonna happen."

I'm about as confused as you are. Because I know she got cut... I was just wondering if this newspaper is a gossip page or something. *shrugs*

Until next week...

kddani 02-08-2005 09:13 PM

that one boy twin that made it through (him and his brother were both really cocky... his brother auditioned again too and didn't make it, I forget their names)- if singing doesn't work out for him he can go get a spot on Growing Up Gotti....

shadokat 02-09-2005 11:57 AM

The Indiana chick was actually in the previews for tonight's show (Wednesday). I was like WTF, she was cut. But they may have invited her now that the single mom from Syracuse decided to go home to be with her son, even though she made it through. I know there are a lot of Fantasia fans out there, but I thought what this girl said was really classy for a single mom.

Also, nice to see the other malfetta is gone now too! HA!

chideltjen 02-09-2005 12:44 PM

I saw part of last night. I taped it and I need to finish the rest.

People I'm glad are gone: Farmer boi, "I pawned my wedding ring" girl, and Rich "Molesta." I thought the boys' voices were very weak and they probably wouldn't have made it anywhere. And Regina just kinda irked me. And there was some news article out there about her having a record. (Not a musical one though...)

The article is http://www.mariettatimes.com/news/st..._new04strt.asp

The good? Well I still think Idol is looking for a male. I don't understand how there are 3 "rocker" types there, because I don't think they will make it very far, at least 2 out of the 3 won't. Idol isn't a rock contest, I don't know what they would do with them.

That said, Mario Vasquez has a BIG chance. So does Travis Tucker, and we'll throw in Anthony "Harry Potter" for kicks. They are all nice looking guys with tolerable voices.

And tonight was the first time I heard Carrie Underwood (?). There has been a lot of buzz about her. She's okay. I still like the Lindsey girl from Louisiana.

Tonight... MORE DRAMA!!! *GASP* [/sarcasm]

AXO Alum 02-09-2005 01:32 PM

So last night S-U-C-K-E-D!! That should have been a 2 hour episode so they could have at least shown us the people that got through or got cut that we saw in auditions.

I could not care less about watching the other group travel around Hollywood all day - and I think its BS that the ones that got cut day 1 had to go home without getting the tour on the 2nd day.

Anyway - I never saw "Freddy Mercury" or the she/he rapper thing person or the big girl... anyone know about any of these?

I already can't stand Ross -- too much like red from last year - ugh, no more crooners, please.

I really like the youth minister's voice - he sounded fantastic I thought, and he has a great voice.

Glad the psycho opera clown is gone - she deserved it for trying to sing that song...horrible - absolutely horrible (in the words of Simon of course).

Now she can go back to her regular job of scaring young children, and seeing how brown her teeth can really get.

(Yes, I am being a bitch today and I know it - chalk it up to hubby's complete disregard of the upcoming 2/14)

kddani 02-09-2005 02:06 PM

if we're thinking of the same big girl, she made it through. They didn't show her sing, but they did show her making it through.

Glad opera girl was gone, and farmer boy, and hawk my wedding ring woman.

The girl who said she'd make Simon take her to the prom is SO F'IN ANNOYING! They were making fun of her SO bad on the radio this morning

I was talking about the big girl that was the sister -- the one I had a question about earlier. She & her sister were shown on a whole clip "arguing" about which was the next Idol. Then they both sang and suck-ed. The first sister got rejected, so when the 2nd went in, she was all in pieces and got rejected also.

But then when they showed the "best moms" clip, the first one was there with a yellow paper. I didn't see her last night.

On my radio, they were making fun of Regina (the wedding ring woman) -- they would play the news and then one of the TJ's (?)(talk radio - not music) would break in and say "Hey John - I would rather you be crappy and not have anyone expect anything of you" -- it was pretty funny 'cuz they kept doing it to people.

Yeah, that girl...isn't she Mikahla?...anyway, they were talking isht about her on TWOP too.

I am still with my girl Nadia, and the youth minister. Also really liked Mario, because I can see him having a career from this.

(edited for the PS):

What about Angel, the DST, and what about Ozzie Smith's son?

Sister Havana 02-10-2005 12:35 AM

I always get a kick out of the group performances, for some reason.

chideltjen 02-10-2005 02:59 AM

I only saw half of it so someone's gotta fill me in on the first half.

The last half... the "drama" was staged. Rediculous. And NONE of the boys from that group should have made it through. I don't know why Tim did. I thought he was equally as bad as the 2nd half of the twin set there.

And then they send the last group through!!! WTF they forgot their flippin words.

I did miss the drama between fishnet girl and her group. Also missed Anthony and Lindsey and Carrie and David... but I saw them in next week's clip so I'm assuming they are good to go.

Anyone know who Jennifer Todd is? Picture? Anything? I missed her audition and they aren't really focusing much on her in this round. I've been hearing a lot of stuff about her... good stuff.

shadokat 02-10-2005 10:53 AM

The whole staged incident was too stupid. And the last group who they let all of them through even though they forgot the words...WHATEVER!!

Watching fishnet girl get cut was the highlight of the evening...you didn't miss much more than that chideltjen!
