Does anyone know who sings the song:

"You're the Reason" ???

I heard it at wedding and it is SO PRETTY.

Nubian 05-14-2001 06:26 PM

I have fallen in love with Napster, some of my recent downloads (love songs) are

At your best-Aaliyah

Once, twice, three times a lady- Lionel Ritchie

Hello-Lionel Ritchie

Get there-Oleta Adams

I belong to you-Rome

Ive downloaded a bilion other songs, but most of them have already been mentioned.

jali0004 05-16-2001 02:01 AM

What a great topic!!

When I was younger, the wedding party at my aunt's wedding walked down to the Jeffery Osborne song..."On the Wings of Love", but or maybe it was "Ribbon in the sky" by Stevie Wonder. hmmmm..I remember both of them, oh well, they could both be used in weddings.

My mom remarried in 1993. We walked down to "Here and Now", by Luther Vandross.

Another good one is, "Always and Forever" by...I think Heatwave????

Now that my wedding day is approaching (in years not months!), I want it to be very classic. "The Very Thought of You" the remake version with Natalie Cole is my song of choice. It's long too, so I think I'll walk down to that instead of the Wedding March.

okay,
first of all, understand that stevie and donny are 2 of my very favorite artists. that being said, how about:

* overjoyed - stevie wonder
* you and i - stevie wonder
* je vous aime (i love you) - donny hathaway
* you were meant for me - donny hathaway & roberta flack
* when love has grown - donny & roberta

i'll try to think of some more.

Hello Sorors and Sisterfriends,

I need a little brainstorming help. A friend of mine is getting married in July. She and her fiance' would like some ideas for songs to be played at the wedding. They've both agreed not to have popular songs played such as Jagged Edge's "Let's get married" or the song "Happily ever after". They want more of soft, love ballad types. The only thing I thought of off the top of my head was Luther Vandross. I guess they want some songs from the 70's or 80's (by the way, the bride is 34 to give you an idea). I know they want "Flesh of my flesh" sung, so any Gospel suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

RRMDQT 05-19-2001 01:59 AM

"Here and Now" by Luther Vandross is definitely the best wedding song of all time, in my opinion. Also that 80's song "The Closer I Get To You.", I can't think of the man and woman who sing it though.

Those two songs are my absolute favorites. I am 20 and "If This World Were Mine" is just so off the hook. Anything by Tony Terry has got me singing.

Oh Yes!!!!!!! "Make Me Whole" is one of the most beautiful songs out there. I sing, so I've even said that when I get married (one of deez dayz), I will sing it to my husband. Yeah Right!!!!! Like I wouldn't be crying and sniffling all the way through it!!!!!!

Three_Love 05-01-2002 09:44 PM

My brother serenaded my sister-in-law at their reception by singing "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra (Some day...when I'm awfully low, when the world is cold, I will feel a glow just thinking of you, and the way you look tonight - I could continue, but I won't, LOL). There wasn't a dry eye in the house. I LOVES ME SOME FRANK SINATRA - the man was a true mack. Their first dance was to "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. Very nice.

One friend of mine had her first dance as "A Whole New World" by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle, from the Aladdin soundtrack. I thought, wow, what a great song...you know, starting off in the new life together as husband and wife...a whole new world.

"So Amazing" by Luther Vandross is a good one. "Love has truly been good to me, not even one sad day or minute have I had since you've come my way." DAMN, I wanna feel like that, LOL.

You've got to make sure to listen to the entire lyrics of the whole song, because there are nice songs out there that unfortunately get a little NASTY. Like "Adore" by Prince..."Love is to weak to define just what you mean to me" is nice, but he gets a little freaky deaky in there too "Was I the first, was I your every fantasy"...uh, that's too much info for a wedding. Another one that gets you is "You've Got a Friend" by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack - "You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am..." but then there's that part where they're talkin' about "they'll take your soul if you let them" and stuff like that that ain't all that cute.

"You're All I Need (to get by)" by Ashford and Simpson is a good one too. "We got the right foundation..."

That's enough for now (smile).

But Babyface sang it on that episode of MARTIN when Martin and Gina got married. Thanks. I read alot of wonderful and creative ideas.
Babyface? I thought that was Brian McKnight in that Martin episode.

Kisha 05-02-2002 11:13 AM

I have a couple of suggestions.

Not sure of the artist, but I like an oldie but goodie, "Latest Greatest Inspiration."

Also, a song I plan on using "one day" CeCe Winans, "Your Strength is Perfect." I absolutely love that song.

"Messiah" is another good one. It's off one of Kelly Price's CDs.

Deltagyrl13 05-03-2002 09:42 PM

Well, I just got married two weeks ago (April 20th) and some of my songs were:

Inseparable - Will Downing
My Love, Sweet Love - Patti Labelle
Unconditional Love - Taralynn Ramsey
and I came down the aisle to You and I by Stevie Wonder.

aspiration 05-06-2002 02:26 AM

Hello GC'ers!!!
I absolutely LOVE weddings so much that I started a coordinating business. I got married last year and my wedding party came down to "Love" by Musiq and I came down the aisle to "You Are So Beautiful".
Also, I'm in a wedding in August, and some of the ideas we came up with are:
For the groom and his two Best Men to come down to "Black Brotha" (I think that's the name of it) by Angie Stone. (he has to enter via the aisleway too because of the layout of the park area). Also she wants the rest of the wedding party to come down to, let's see, I don't know the name of the song or the artist, but the beginning is similar to this......(don't laugh)....... "la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, do-do-do-do-do-oo" Then there's a high pitched "Ahhhh-hhhh" Don't laugh at me yal, that's the best way I can describe the song. If anyone can translate my rendition :D, please let me know who the artist is. There's a few more that she's considering for the Old/New School mix.
Oh another one that a lot of people suggested to me is "The Wedding Song" (or something similar) by John P. Kee. Has anyone heard that song?

Kisha 05-06-2002 02:56 PM

Minnie Ripperton

Minnie Ripperton is the artist you are referring to. I believe the name of the song is “Loving You”

Soror Brian McKnight sang the night Martin proposed in the park and Gina was crying, boo hooing and Oh Martin-ing. :p

Babyface did sing at the wedding.

Has anyone seen the commercial for the Time Life "Wedding Songs" CD? I want that CD!!!

lostnfound117 07-17-2003 12:49 PM

try 'looking for luv' my this guy named multi. my best friend got married in april, and when they played that song, there was not a dry eye in the house.

Mz Destiny 07-17-2003 01:29 PM

I had my best friend sing "In You" by Glenn Jones when I walked down the aisle. Here are the lyrics to the chorus....

In you I've found perfect love
That 1 of a kind most dream of
I never thought it would be
That in you I found
Everything I'll ever need

I'm divorced now, but it's still a gorgeous song! :D

I was also going to suggest "My Love Sweet Love" by Patti Labelle on the Waiting To Exhale Soundtrack, but someone beat me to it.

Another nice song for your wedding party to walk down the aisle to on that same soundtrack is "Wey You" by Chante Moore. My girlfriend's party walked down the aisle to that. It was really nice.

Another twist is "Order My Steps" by GMWA Women of Worship. My best friend (the same one that sang at my wedding) had his wedding party come down the aisle to that with choreography and all! You wanna talk about people being on their face before the wedding really started??? The Holy Ghost was so off the chain that the wedding ceremony itself could barely begin because once my best friend started worshipping God, it was like fire up in there! Very different yet very beautiful....

"When We Get Married," by Larry Graham? HELLLOOOOOOO??
I love that song.

BTW kudos to your friend for NOT wanting the unromantic New Jack crud that's out there.

I have that CD.

The name of the group is Pure Soul. The album came out in 1995. They are: Pure Soul: Shawn Allen, Kirsten Hall, Keitha L. Shepherd, Heather Perkins. (I copied their names, I don't know them like that ;) )

When that song came out a lot of women where proposing to their men. I saw that on a Jenny Jones show back then.

I think the song is great as well as the rest of the album. They also did Stairway to Heaven.

zetafg 07-21-2003 09:37 AM

Boyz II Men - I Do

Boyz II Men - Thank You in Advance

Luther Vandross - If This World Were Mine

Lady2000 07-21-2003 09:58 AM

I had the DJ play "For You I Will" by Monica at my sister's wedding and she really liked it. Me, I want "When I fall in love" I think that's on the first page of this post. I thought it'd be cool to sing that to my husband at our reception...when I get over my stage fright...and when I find a man...:)

Here are the songs I had for my wedding last year:

Order My Steps - seating of grandparents
Give Us This Day - entrance of parents/candle lighting
Still In Love (Brian McKnight) - entrance of wedding party
So Amazing (Luther)-entrance of the bride (didn't want the traditional march)
Overjoyed (Stevie)
You (Jesse Powell) - 1st dance
Wildflower (Newbirth) - dance with my dad (it's his favorite song)

If the CD had been out at the time, I would have used John Legend's songs (Stay with You and Cloud Nine) somewhere!
