When my outfit was deploying to Iraq we fell in on the parade ground and received the usual pep talk from the Commanding General and then we passed in review before loading onto trucks to take us to the airfield. As we marched by the band struck up a medely of traditional Cavalry tunes and ended up as we marched off the field with "The Girl I Left Behind Me". Not a dry eye to be found! We fell out by the trucks and had a few minuted to say farewells to families, wives, and girlfriends. The band played it once more as we loaded up and then we were on our way. On the long flight over I heard many of the troopers saying that our departure music was like a throwback to an old John Wayne movie, but it sure made them feel like something special had happened.

How could I forget this???? I first heard it back during Desert Storm. We had a big assembly with the whole school, and we had a huge screen on stage and all these other schools across the country were doing their own "peace" concert sing a long thingy. So everytime I hear it, it makes me think of then, and all those people who have died.

"You're Still You" by Josh Groban - it was my first dance with my husband and the lyrics are so powerful to me... I mean "And I believe in you although you never ask me to" gets me every time!
"Time after Time" - from Romy & Michelle's HS Reunion. It reminds me of my best friend in High School. She and I don't speak anymore for a lot of reasons and it always makes me think of her and wonder if she's ok. "I Will Be Here" by Stephen Curtis Chapman - it's a sorority pref thing as well as a song that reminds me of my hubby. Again, the lyrics are so powerful. "The Prayer" the Josh Groban/Charlotte Church version - to me, this version blows the Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion rendition away by far. Man, I'm getting misty here at work. Times like these it's really nice to have my own office!! Edited because I can't spell while I'm so teary eyed apparently! |
