I agree. But I think it's an even bigger deal to have the first Black gay man for MTV. From what it seemed in the previews, he's going to have to deal with racial profiling as well. MTV is going to play this up alllllll season.

from the previews it looks like Landon and Shavonda are gonna hook up.

Kamaro seems really chill, so does Shavonda. they didnt show much of that melanie chick.

It said in her intro that she has been accepted to a Florida law school. I don't know if they mean the U of FL law school or another in FL. Either way I am sure the members of the Bar are going to have real "character" issues with this girl's behavior.

Ok so now that I've seen most of the first episode.....i agree with everyone else. Sarah is annoying. Plus its like they pulled the only girl out of how ever many that applied that looks and acts exactly like Trishelle. UGH!

I also have to add that not only does Landon have an AWESOME name (sorry...I've been in love with that name ever since A Walk to Remember) but he's damn FINE too!!!!

MJ just doesn't do it for me. The more I looked at him....the more I didn't like the shape of his lips....ha ha! They're just weird lookin.

Good call. Didn't even think about that one. Maybe shes banking that no established lawyers will watch the show? If anyone is greek, I'm putting money on her. She went to Emory. A friend who goes there for grad school said there is something like 1000 women in the greek system. And they have some NICE fraternity houses.

Co-sign! Willie was hilarious! But the thing that bothers me is that he wants to get back into acting, so saying all the funny lines will probably always seem shady to me. Ever since Kyle B. was haming it up for the cameras and finally did win a role on Days, I don't trust anyone who says they are into acting or have been an actor.

I thought Kyle had wanted to get into politics when he was on the show? I remember Kerri making a big deal about it toward the end, saying that everything he did on the show was to make himself look good for his future political career and he got really pissed at her for saying that.

Anyway.

I LOLed when Sarah was like "I respect myself, I have pride...I won't hook up with a guy one night and ignore him the next" (or something to that effect) but she wasn't too proud to take sloppy seconds later in the night after MJ had already made out with the blonde chick.

OH THE IRONING.

I didn't have any intention of watching this season of the Real World as, in my opinion, each season kepts getting trashier and more obnoxious. But, I caught the opener being replayed on Monday late at night with nothing else on the tv...so I tuned in, and I have to say that this cast came off pretty interesting in the first episode. Besides Sarah, the house seems very chill and I will be interested in how their stories evolve.

Um, I don't think any of the men, with the exception of other "certain" men, will be watching the next episode next week! :eek: lol

I'm talking about afterwards. He was interviewed as saying that acting was his first love...blah blah blah. You know how most aspiring actors say the same thing. So that makes me think he was trying to get an acting job for at least part of his season. :)

Even though I am a faithful Real World viewer, I honestly haven't been excited to watch the show since Real World Hawaii. But this session has regained my attention. I can't wait to see future episodes. The only bad part is that Sarah is getting on my nerves already.

Honestly...everytime I watch this Real World, all I'm thinking is:


When is willie gonna bust out a felt tip pen on a rope and ask Ghostwriter some deep questions about his roomates?

THE EMERGING NEW FACE OF BLACK GAY AMERICA: MTV's Real World Philadelphia

This year Noah's Arc broke ground as the first black gay series. Showtime introduced three black gay men on the political reality show American Candidate . ABC's The Benefactor , features a black gay man as well. MTV is following suit with a black gay man on this season's Real World .

Last Tuesday night, over one million jaws dropped across America in unison as MTV's Real Word Philadelphia cast found out which of their new roommates were gay. No one probably ever suspected that the clean cut and handsome Black boy from Los Angeles by way of Houston would be dropping the bombshell that he wasn't one of the assumed "straight" members of the household. Ah, but the plot thickens! Not only is he gay, but he's not the finger-snapping overly effeminate gay man that America has grown comfortable with. No, Karamo , at first glance, appears to be your average urban, hip-hop loving, straight brotha, and for the most part that's accurate if you replace straight with gay.

The youngest of four, the 23 year old, Florida A&M Business Administration graduate is perfectly comfortable with his sexuality and hopes his "coming out" experience will put a new face on Black gay men.

In a recent interview he explained, "My sexuality doesn't define who I am. I am a Black man first and foremost."

That may be so, but how has Black America reacted to this new face on gay America?

"While I was in College Park, Atlanta, I had these real hardcore looking brothas come up to me on the street and give me props for coming out," explained to Karamo. "I've received support from people age 18 to 70 since coming out on the show. It's amazing because I thought people were going to attack me or something like that, but no, it's been all positive."

Since wrapping the show, Karamo is back in Los Angeles and has hit the ground running.

An avid activist, Karamo is now focusing his energies and time on issues that affect the Black gay community.

"I plan on volunteering with Black gay advocacy organizations like the National Black Justice Coalition ," said Karamo. "The fight against AIDS is also important to me and I want to assist with getting the message out that we [Black gay men] are still dying from this disease."

The son of Jamaican parents, Karamo is disgusted with homophobic reggae artists like Beenie Man.

"Artists like Beenie Man promote hatred and murder," explained Karamo. "Reggae is beautiful music but not when it's being used promote the murder of gays."

Karamo recently attended a special screening of Noah's Arc in Hollywood, the first all Black gay series.

"I hope that with all of these fresh new and positive images of Black gays emerging that America especially Black America will realize that we're [gays] an important part of the community," commented Karamo. "We have lives, jobs and families like everyone else. Anything that I can do to help get that message out there I will."
