Fleur-de-lis: My application for the language summer program I'm applying to has finally gotten all the pieces together and is all ready to be mailed out!

Broken Key: I don't have postage and it's 2am so I have to wait until tomorrow to go and get postage on the big packed envelope...

ISUKappa 12-10-2004 06:43 PM

Because it's Friday, I have two fleur-de-lis and no broken keys!

Fleur-de-lis: I am finished with my advising duties for the semester! (love the chapter, but it's soooo nice to get a break!)

Fleur-de-lis: To show me their appreciation, the girls in the chapter sent me a beautiful flower arrangement yesterday! I was so touched!

KappaLadyK 12-19-2004 11:53 PM

Fleur-de-lis: I'm engaged!

Fleur-de-lis: My sister is engaged!

Fleur-de-lis: It's winter break!

Broken Key: I have a wicked cold to deal with.

but all in all things are good

uwkappa 01-23-2005 05:14 PM

congradulations kappaladyk! and your sister too! *snaps*

fleur-de-lis: threw an amazing dinner party for some friends last night...tried a couple new dishes and they turned out so well!

boken key: i have a knee injury and it might cut down on my running....

Shima-Mizu 01-25-2005 12:51 AM

fleur-de-lis: That application I mentioned in my last post--- I received the reply back from them, and I'm accepted! Which means this summer from June 10th-August 12th, I will be attending the Japanese Language School at Middlebury College in Vermont.

broken key: I'll only be allowed to speak, read, write, listen to, etc ONLY Japanese and no other language, it will be really hard going 9 weeks with no contact w/ my non-japanese speaking friends.... and fiance! though we're probably going to have my room mate translate letters I write to him so we can still stay in touch :)

MSKKG 01-25-2005 06:51 PM

Shima-Mizu, what a fantastic honor! Congratulations!

KappaLadyK 01-26-2005 09:02 PM

9 weeks? That's miserable. BUT you will have such an AMAZING experience! And think how much growing you two will do as a couple. Oh you're just going to have a great time. That's so cool. I'm so stoked for you!

L&L,
KTK

Shima-Mizu 02-05-2005 02:42 PM

Yeah it's like a big honor a big "EEP! I'm going to die from lack of English / missing my daily Joel conversations"

it will all be worth it in the end and I'll be much more fluent when all is said and done though!

ISUKappa 02-07-2005 12:58 AM

Broken Key I will be losing half my Advisory Board after this semester and we're not having any luck at all recruiting new people in.

Fleur-de-lis We just found out we're getting a CC, which will be GREAT for the chapter!

EEKappa 02-07-2005 03:08 PM

Fleur-de-lis We had a fabulous Rho Province Meeting, in Newport, with help from Rhode Island Alumnae Assocation. (They rock!) Our attendance was record-breaking, and everyone had a fantastic weekend with excellent workshops and amazing Fraternity VIP visitors.

Broken Key The work project from hell that I didn't finish before I left for Newport was still there when I got back to the office.

uwkappa 02-18-2005 03:18 AM

Fleur-de-lis: i cleaned out my closet in preparation to move out of this apartment soon and goodwill shall receive lots of things from me shortly.

broken key:my car is making odd odd noises

uwkappa 02-18-2005 03:21 AM

broken key: this is very sadly and seriously broken...i can't attend province this year in toronto b/c i have finals at that time

Shima-Mizu 02-22-2005 03:31 PM

fleur-de-lis: I'm starting to get over my sickness a bit...
broken key: i'm still sick x.x

bigger broken key: my grandma passed away last night :( and I can't get home to see the family....

please keep my family in your prayers as we all cope...

EDIT:
Fleur-de-lis: Today is my one year anniversary of being an active initiated member of KKG :)

MSKKG 03-04-2005 12:03 PM

Broken Keys: (1) One of my cousins passed away last week from cancer. (2) I sprained the MCL in my left knee.

Fleur-de-lis: I won't have to have surgery!

ISUKappa 03-04-2005 12:20 PM

Shima-Mizu and MSKKG I'm so sorry for your losses.
-----
broken key I still haven't found anyone to step up and volunteer for the chapter's HB and without a full HB, we can't start fundraising for a sprinkler system.

fleur-de-lis BUT I did have four fabulous women step up and volunteer to be on the AB!! :D
fleur-de-lis part deux AND I had a wonderful time at the Zeta province last weekend. :)

Shima-Mizu 03-05-2005 12:56 PM

Fleur-de-lis: I'm in Japan!!! What a great way to spend Spring Break :) Even if I do have to do research and not just pure tourism....

Broken Key: It's 15 hours ahead here from my Valpo time zone... so it's really hard to talk to people back home, heh.

Fleur-de-lis: My fiance rocks so much that on Thursday, his day off (aka his day to sleep in) he actually got up and stayed online from 5am on just to catch me online when I got back from my days excursions (I came online around 6amish his time). Now that's love.

MSKKG 03-16-2005 01:01 PM

This is a combined Fleur-de-lis and Broken Key--you decide which is good or bad:

My niece was getting married on the 12th, so I flew to Mississippi on the 10th for the wedding festivities. I took my 90-yr.-old aunt (I was named for her) to her hair and nail appt. soon after I arrived.

My aunt was one of the hostesses for the bridesmaid luncheon at one of the antebellum homes in Vicksburg on the 11th. She wore a new pantsuit, and the food was wonderful. My aunt broke her hip a couple of years ago and uses a walker, but she took her time and made it. I took a picture of her and the bride, and someone else took a picture of my family.

When we got home, my aunt was wheezing and out of breath and wound up dying in my arms. She had told my sister (mom of the bride) that if anything happened to her to go on with the wedding and bury her in the dress she was going to wear to the wedding. We honored her wishes--how bittersweet. They put a single white rose on her seat at the wedding.

The wedding was wonderful--she would have loved it. We had the visitation on Mon. and the funeral on Tues. She looked beautiful (she was always dressed to the nines). The picture used for her obituary was the one of her and my niece that I took (my niece was cropped out, of course).

My knee is hurting more than it was, but I will be leaving for PT in a little bit.

It was an emotional up-and-down weekend, but I do feel blessed to be the one with her at the end.

LuvUTrulyKKG 03-16-2005 11:40 PM

MSKKG,
I am so sorry for your loss, but I am happy that you were able to spend time with her. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

ISUKappa 03-17-2005 12:46 AM

MSKKG

I am also very sorry for your loss. This has been a tough winter for you.

How nice you were able to be with her at the end. My thoughts are with you and your family.

MSKKG 03-19-2005 04:36 PM

Steph & Kari,

Thanks for the kind words. I still can't believe she is gone, but I am at peace about it. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

Loyally,
Lillian

MSKKG 03-24-2005 06:43 PM

I've had enough Broken Keys recently, so I'm just going to post a Fleur-de-lis:

My son (a junior in HS) made the All-State Math Team! The details are unclear, but it sounds like he will get to go to Penn State in June for the competition regardless of how he is ranked. However, in one section of the letter, it sounds like only 35 of the 60 team members will get to go. I think they expect a lot of conflicts with graduations, work, family vacations, etc.

LuvUTrulyKKG 03-28-2005 02:25 PM

Congrats to your son!

hootiekkg 04-01-2005 01:17 AM

Fleur- De-Lis: My wonderful Kappa sisters
Broken Key: our chapter is being closed down.

ISUKappa 05-01-2005 10:38 PM

A few goods and bads:

Broken Key It's the end of the semester and I won't have to go to another CC or chapter meeting until August.
Fleur-de-lis It's the end of the semester and I don't have to go to another CC or chapter meeting until August! :)

Broken Key It's very difficult to see so many women make the tough decision to leave the chapter and watch their best friends who are still active deal with it.
Golden Key By sticking to our guns and firmly upholding Kappa and chapter rules, the chapter will so much stronger in the coming years, and I'm excited to watch them grow into their strengths.

weekappa 05-02-2005 03:59 PM

Fleur-de-lis: Zeta Lambda performed an awesome dance/ cheer routine in last night's Greek Talent Show to DJ $crilla's "Kappa Kappa Gamma" rap (amazing song!!)

Broken Key: We somehow didn't win. Everyone, including other Greeks, still can't figure that one out.

Fleur-de-lis: Kappa still took 3rd place in Greek Week here at W&J

STL Kappa 05-03-2005 12:43 AM

Fleur-de-lis: I got to check out my room in the house for next year... SO EXCITED! They also changed our Key Sis thing around a bit so I get to be a pledge mom (err, Key Sis  ) next year as a sophomore instead of as a junior!

Broken key: My pledge twin is transferring to Iowa State's chapter and I'm gonna miss her! And it was the last chapter of the year!!

I'm sorry about losing your pledge twin, but the Iowa State chapter is a wonderful chapter!

I should know, it was my chapter. :D

MSKKG 05-09-2005 02:01 PM

Fleur-de-lis: My older son made a 35 on his ACT. He scored 36 in mathematics, reading, and science and a 33 in English, which gives him a composite score of 35.

Broken Key: My younger son has a bad case of poison ivy. It doesn't itch and he hadn't been outside in a way to get it, so we thought it might be a food allergy. He is on a steroid, so I'm sure it will clear up soon.

STL Kappa 06-22-2005 12:52 PM

I was just inspired with the GPA ones... haha.

Fleur-de-lis: to Theta chapter for achieving a house GPA for winter semester 2005 of 3.316!! (That's the highest our GPA has been in five semesters!) And congrats to our 16 members who had a 4.0! :D

Oh, Kerri, that is *SO* wonderful. What great news!!! I am so proud of them (vicariously through you). It must feel so good to see them acheive such an outstanding grade improvement!! :)

imsohappythatiama 06-23-2005 02:24 PM

Fleur De Lis: EEKappa and I are together in Columbus, OH this weekend for ACS (Associate Council Seminar) for the next few days...with all of the other Province Directors, Regional Directors, and Council Members. It's a blue-and-blue Kappa good time! :)

Thanks, Kristin. They really are trying so hard to get the chapter back in the right direction. :)

And I realized that I mistyped -- it should be .05, not .5, but that's still a great accomplishment!

Have fun in Columbus!

ISUKappa 07-12-2005 11:25 AM

broken key - It's taking much longer than I anticipated to paint the girls' bedrooms in the chapter house.

fleur de lis - But I know they're going to absolutely LOVE what we're doing!

yalenole 07-15-2005 09:50 PM

fleur de lis: The EZ house is getting a much needed make over

broken key: every time I turn a corner there is something else that has to be fixed!

Broken key: It is so expensive and is taking way longer than we anticipated

fleur de lis: the ladies will absolutely love their newly redecorated house and be totally blown away when they see it!!!;)

OOOH! That's so exciting! That house does really need a makeover, there's a lot of floral print going on... I always really liked the formal living room, it's pretty and we hardly ever used it, but the informal needed help, and the scary wallpaper in the dining room... yikes!

Haha... not my chapter, yet it kind of describes our house. It's very very pretty but has some funky patterns. And our dining room is infamous: there's a floral print wallpaper and the same print was used on the curtains, so when the curtains are drawn, the entire room looks like one giant box with no way out... :D

uwkappa 07-22-2005 12:44 PM

Fleur de lis: I got my first real job! yay!

MSKKG 08-08-2005 09:20 PM

Lots of fleur-de-lis things:

I've lost 9.8 lbs.!

My older son was awarded one of 14 $1,000 scholarships from the Columbia Swim League.

My younger son made All-Stars for Colt League baseball. They won the district without having to play any games (everyone else dropped out of the tourney)! They lost in the state tourney . . . BUT to the team that won it all.
