Next trip! But only if the temperature is above 0!

Actually, I was supposed to go to Hamburg for the second week of June for another project but plans changed.

CarolinaDG 06-25-2005 07:27 AM

We found out two days ago that my boss is leaving. He and I were REALLY close, and with my parents leaving this year that means I have noone to count on up here. Luckily, I know two of the candidates for his job and one of them I could easily become just as close to.

JohnsDGsweethrt 06-25-2005 12:35 PM

oh la la, close w/ the boss ;)

CarolinaDG 07-30-2005 11:17 AM

It's been a rough week for me, so I wanted to post...

There are no buds this week, however the biggest rose and thorn was the same event. On Wednesday, I got a call from my dad saying that they had decided to put my male dog down (he's 11 years old and has heartworms). He said that if he put him down, he was going to put his sister up for adoption, and if she didn't get adopted he's sure the pound would put him down as well (it's a long story why). However, he made an offer to pay for $87.50 of my parent loan, so that it goes from $387.50 to $300.00 a month if I take on this dog. I already have a puppy, so he felt that it would be good for the older dog to have a playmate. So, I now have a big border collie/lab mix residing with a jack russell/chihuahua mix (and yes, it is a funny sight). So my rose is that I got a new dog, and my thorn is pretty much everything else that went along with it.

rose rose rose:

I LEAVE FOR ROME ON SUNDAY!

I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO ROME AND NOW I AM GOING! YEAH YEAH YEAH!

ajuhdg 08-11-2005 09:28 PM

Mel, I'm so happy for you! We loved Rome! Gracie-poo should have a super time!

Well, I've had one heck of a week! I don't think I've mentioned it, but I'll be having a little legacy in November! YIPPEE!!

On to the thorns...which there just seem to be so damn many this week. I put my two weeks in on Monday. I've just had so much going on between me and the baby. It just seemed easier to take a breather. Tuesday, my husband called to tell me that he'd had an 'accident' during his Water Survival Training class. He was pulling himself out of the pool...in full battle-rattle...and ruptured the tendons in his left bicep. It is completely detached from his left pectoral muscle. He'll have surgery on Monday...good thing I quit my job, huh? ;) There is good news though, he will most likely NOT get deployed again. We're looking at at least 4 months of recovery. Bad news, we don't know how his future looks for other employment. He's a K9 handler, and he won't be able to handle dogs anymore. Ahhh...I'm rambling. Thanks for listening guys!

JohnsDGsweethrt 08-12-2005 03:05 AM

Oh i also forgot to mention....

WE ARE GOING TO VENICE TOO! AND OUR HOTEL HAS A BEACH!!!

CarolinaDG 09-04-2005 07:16 PM

Well, mine sounds like nothing compared to Venice, but I'm going to Vegas in two weeks. Pretty exciting for me, since Ohio is the furthest west I've ever been (and that's more north than west, anyway). I'm flying through Houston, too, which I've heard is an awesome airport. I think I'm more excited about the flying than the actualy Vegas!

lagirl33 09-06-2005 01:16 AM

Rose - I had an awesome time with my sister and brother in San Francisco for my sis's birthday. My sister LOVED her present - a necklace from tiffany's. We took her to the store, had her try it on because "I thought it was cute", and then said happy birthday!

Bud - I'm really looking forward to getting back to school.

Thorns - My boyfriend didn't get to come up this weekend (he goes to USC and they started back in August) because gas was so expensive and his professors piled work on him. I don't get to see him till October now because I'll be so busy with rush prep/rush itself. :(

Rose and Thorn - I'm taking care of my brother and sister while my parents are in Europe and man is it hard! Getting healthy dinner on the table, making sure the house is clean, waking up at 5 am to take my brother to water polo practice, rides to and from school, etc. All this while still working my full time job. I don't know how my parents do it!

notyouraverage 07-28-2006 03:10 PM

Rose: I finished five pages in my scrapbook this week!

Bud: The progress on the Delta Iota house is amazing! I wish I knew how to post pictures so I could share. We're all so excited about recruitment and Move-In is next Wednesday!

Thorn: Lots of work to do for summer school finals before move-in. :(

AnchorAlumna 07-28-2006 10:16 PM

What's going on at Delta Ioa??

notyouraverage 07-30-2006 04:05 PM

The facade is getting a whole new look! I drive by it every chance I get; it looks amazing so far!

Rose -- I got to see Andrea (HannahGirl) this weekend!! She was down on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a family vacation so my boyfriend and I snuck down this weekend to see them before they left! Here are some cute pictures we took of myself and Andrea hanging out at the pool!

AnchorAlumna 07-30-2006 11:53 PM

WOW!:D I am so excited for Delta Iota! Please post photos as the changes take place. Is it supposed to be finished in time for recruitment? Are there any interior changes (I know the living room was redecorated a few years ago)? Keep us informed!

hannahgirl 08-29-2006 08:53 AM

I just recieved another long term teaching assignment. I'll be teaching 4th grade for a girl going on maternity leave so that means I'll be in the classroom till at least Halloween. I don't have to deal with 6am phone calls...which is VERY EXCITING! I will be starting very soon (like next tuesday) considering school started TODAY!
This is my 3rd long term assignment....I had 3rd grade last fall at the same school I'll be at this time (which means I'll have my kids from last year!) and I finished out the 05-06 year in Kindergarten at a different school within the district.
Kent recruitment starts next weeked also! The girls are ready and I'm hoping that we walk away with quota again!

ImaDeeGee 08-31-2006 08:24 AM

Rose - I needed to purchase $265.00 worth of books for one of my classes and I did not have the money. Two of my sisters really helped me out. One had the book ($140) and the other had the calculator ($125), and they let me borrow them for the semester! :) They are my life savers!

Bud - I am off tomorrow and I only have one afternoon class! Yippie! :D

Thorns - I work 40 hours a week while going to school full time. It's only the first week of classes and I am already exhausted. :( And pay day is tomorrow, only the majority of my check has already been spent on bills and rent. It's going to be a tough next two weeks!

Yay!! Andrea! I'm excited for you!!! If you need any ideas for "older" kids...let me know!

hannahgirl 09-04-2006 12:28 AM

Oh I know where to find you!!!! Not to worry!

and you know how I said I would be starting on Tuesday?? Yeah....so I started on the 2nd day of school  How's that for throwing it at ya!

BTW CJ.....I forwarded your email to Akron's former ATC who just moved to Raleigh and is looking to be involved with the alumnae group. I told her that you could point her in the right direction or let her know about events going on. Her name is Becki Hogue and she's really sweet! I hope that she gets a hold of you!

notyouraverage 09-05-2006 10:32 AM

ROSE! Anchor Trader is now selling these: https://www.anchortrader.com/Images/gf24.jpg I don't think you can possibly tell how freaking excited I am about this!

thorn I have no money :(

AUDeltaGam 09-05-2006 03:31 PM

LOVE it!!

notyouraverage 11-28-2006 10:18 PM

rose: i've already got half my christmas shopping done!
bud: officer installation is next week and I was elected to Honor Board and asked to be Dir. of Rituals! (yay!yay!yay!yay!yay!yay!yay!)
thorn: mountains of papers to write before this semester is over and I can let my obsession with DG ritual run free.

ImaDeeGee 11-29-2006 10:23 AM

Rose: I got to spend a lot of quality time at home with my family for the holiday...it's amazing how much I miss them now that I am gone at school!

Bud: Officer Installation for us is also next week and I was elected to VP Social Standards...super pumped about that!

Thorn: I sent my sister, who just moved to Florida a month ago, a long ten page letter (college ruled notebook paper, written on BOTH sides!) in the mail and it got lost...me sad!!

JohnsDGsweethrt 11-29-2006 12:27 PM

notyouraverage 12-11-2006 01:51 PM

minDyG 02-10-2007 01:05 PM

Rose = I took my daughter (Meredith) to Athens to meet several of my sisters and see the Delta Iota house (which looks amazing by the way!).
Bud = Looking forward to getting my tax return back and being able to register for classes for the spring quarter.
Thorn = My big sis's apartment caught on fire and I haven't gotten the chance to talk to her to make sure that everything is okay. (I know that SHE's okay, physically, but I need to know how she is DOING, y'know?)

hannahgirl 02-12-2007 12:38 AM

hey ladies....i have a request that i hope you all can help out with. i chose to put this in here because, well, it is very much like a thorn.

on Tuesday Jan 30th, the Kent State DGs lost a wonderful sister named Alicia to cancer. Alicia battled with this disease for the last few years and the DGs were there to support her in so many ways. They held pancake breakfasts, participated in Relay for Life, etc. Alicia was very close to many of the seniors of the chapter and they are in the process of coordinating a memorial service for her on Friday night. Alicia was only 23 years old.

Well....it doesn't stop there. Last Wednesday (a week after we heard the news about Alicia), a current member of the chapter and one i am very close to was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. it was quite a shock for many of us because she is a very happy, healthy 21 year old woman. she served the chapter last year as VP Membership and was currently holding the position of VP Recruitment on Panhellenic. she has since had to drop out of school and resign from her campus offices.

the Delta Gamma's at Kent are really hoping to bring a strong presence at Relay for Life this year and want to raise as much money as possible in Alicia and Kelly's names. If anyone is interested in helping them in anyway possible or even taking this back to your alum groups, please PM me and let me know. I think it would mean a lot to these women to see that other sisters around the nation are there to support them also.

It's been a long road for these DGs and unfortunately Alicia's journey has ended, but Kelly's has just begun.....Thanks a bunch ladies....this really means a lot! LITB!

Ok so Founder's Day was awesome! CJ and I had a blast talking to girls from Duke and NC State and other Alums. Beth Searcy was our keynote speaker.

So far we've spent 3 days hanging out....she picked me up from the airport on Friday and we went to dinner and looked at all the awesome wedding stuff she's done. Yesterday was Founder's Day and we were able to hang out with her little Alison and her biological twin sister Laura. Then we went wedding shoe shopping!

Today is CJs bridal shower! She has NO idea about anything going on and its driving her CRAZY! :p She'll love it!!!

We'll get some pics posted later!

hannahgirl 05-30-2007 11:09 PM
