Good Luck during FR.

I can't wait to read more. Another thread to become addicted too. LOL

pinkyphimu 08-12-2004 10:42 AM

good luck next week! we certainly can't wait to hear your story!

reverie 08-12-2004 02:29 PM

Good luck, have fun and don't forget to be yourself!!!

Only three more days! YAY!

HappyGoLucky 08-12-2004 04:56 PM

Ahhh! Recruitment starts in 3 days! I am really excited, but also really nervous. I know I have all my clothe and stuff together. Manicure. pedicure, eyebrows and hair are all being taken care of in the next 2 days. And I'm trying to come up with intelligent things to say. But I have a hard time talking about my self. I always feel like I'm bragging. Oh well, I can't wait. I moved into my apartment last week (I'm not in G-ville, b/c of work) and it is so cute.

Thanks everyone for all your support. Orientation is Sunday, so everybody get ready!

erniegurl00 08-12-2004 04:59 PM

Just remember that the girls will help lead the conversation. They will ask you questions about you. Don't feel like you're bragging, especially if you're simply describing yourself, what you like, and what you're involved in. You'll be surprised by how easily conversation will flow. :)

smiley21 08-14-2004 08:28 AM

tomorrow is it!!!!!!!! wahoo!!!

navane 08-14-2004 11:25 AM

Hooray! Even though Gamma Phi doesn't have a chapter there, I am excited about the UF threads! It sounds like a long haul to bid day....but I hope you enjoy every minute of the experience!

Hope all is going very well!!! Have fun!

HappyGoLucky 08-21-2004 10:22 AM

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but the houses where I felt comfortable did not invite me back after 2nd round. By then I was crying more than laughing and decided I was not going to put myself through another round. I met some amazing girls, and I want to wish everyone else going through recruitment the best of luck. I guess greek life just wasn't for me!

-Jessica

pinkyphimu 08-21-2004 11:37 AM

jessica,
don't worry about dissappointing us. you have to do what is best for you! i'm sorry you were crying more than laughing.

have fun when school starts!

MOLadybug 08-21-2004 12:21 PM

Give it one more day

I know you have favorites during rush; but favorites can drastically change during formal recuritment. Don't let your feelings blind you from your goals. Feelings can change by walking though a door of a house you didn't like yesterday. You have felt the hurt of disappointment and now know the beast. Don't let any one house keep you from having a greek experience! I have been where you are! Thought I knew where I wanted to be but Alpha Phi showed me literally where I should be! I have been a happy member over 25 years. Formal rush is all about numbers and most of the time has nothing to do with personal feelings on the chapter's part. If it's too late for formal recruitment then I hope you will sign up for COB. Keep smiling you will find a home or what really happens a home finds you!:p

EEKappa 08-21-2004 01:06 PM

Jessica, none of us can know exactly how you are feeling right now, or how you found the groups that you were invited back to. If you can in any way see yourself in one of them, I'd like to encourage you to continue.

Being part of a sorority transcends your college life, and the chapter that you join can be only a small part of your overall experience.

I had a conversation once with one of Kappa's Fraternity Council members, and we were talking about what we did as collegiate members. She almost didn't pledge, was never an officer, and at one point she almost resigned until her mother talked her out of it, saying that "this could be important to you some day." She said "I can't imagine what would have happened if I hadn't listened to my mom!"

Please don't feel that you've disappointed us! Do what you feel in your heart is best for you.

Speechpath 08-21-2004 01:28 PM

I'm so sorry for what happened, but again like the others said, I encourage you to go forward if you can and you might just find a house you can be a part of. I remember how my impressions changed every time I went back so maybe one more round could do that for you too. In the end though, you must do what is best for you!

gogoaphi 08-21-2004 04:11 PM

cosign with all of the above

texas*princess 08-21-2004 04:22 PM

First and foremost, you need to do what you believe is right for you... but please don't dismiss greek life so easily :( The chapters that invited you back saw something special in you, and they want to show you what their sisterhood is all about :)

ASUADPi 08-21-2004 04:22 PM

Jessica, I cosign with what everyone else has said. Also, remember during FR "rules" are very different than during COR/COB. For example, during FR a house might have to drop girls who don't have a 3.0 but during COR/COB they might be willing to accept girls who have a 2.5 (if that makes sense).

I say, if you really felt like those houses were meant for you, keep your eyes and ears open for events. Informal recruitment is much more laid back. :)

Buttonz 08-21-2004 04:41 PM

I'm sorry to hear that you dropped out. I agree with the rest of the above, try COR, it's more laid back and relaxed.

ADPiAkron 08-21-2004 08:43 PM

Not trying to be a thread bummer-- but with UF being such a big school do they even have COR?

I'd imagine that they do - look at UGA, and other schools which traditionally have mass quota by the end of FR.

Jessica, right now, the pain is new and probably a little confusing. But in the coming year, with any luck at all, you'll meet a LOT of sorority women, and you never know what will happen as you get to know them. The posters above have given you some stellar advice, but I suppose I want to add my own "Never Say Never."

mmcat 08-21-2004 11:44 PM

cosign with all above...
remember how beautiful and talented you are and never say never. you don't know what ultimately will happen.

COR/COB at UF

I am almost done with recruitment at UF (We just did our final ranking a few hours ago and will get our bids tomorrow afternoon) and through the entire process, none of the Pi Chi's (or anyone else for that matter) have ever mentioned any COR/COB opportunities for the PNM's. Anyone know if this opportunity is available at UF? From what I know it isnt....

-Sunshine

DeltaBetaBaby 08-22-2004 01:59 AM

Like any school, it is available to chapters that are under quota or total. It is not likely that your PiChis would atlk about it during FR, because it gives girls mixed messages. If, for example, Suzie PNM gets dropped from her favorite, she may think that she should just drop out of FR and COB that house later, even if it is a very large chapter that never does COB.

smiley21 08-22-2004 07:38 AM

there is a girl that used to come on GC that got went through UF's rush. didn't get a bid then but got picked up by Phi Mu right after. i am not trying to get your hopes up, but just saying that anything is possible if you want it to happen. i wish you well.

ADPiAkron 08-22-2004 10:40 AM

Oh good! I am so happy to hear all of this about COR! Best wishes Happy Go Lucky-- you WILL find your home!

OUDGalumn 08-22-2004 11:31 AM

I'm sorry you had a sad rush experience. I emailed you, Jessica. Best wishes!

aephi alum 08-22-2004 11:40 AM

I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out. :(

COB/ COR @ UF

I graduated from UF 4 years ago and still try to keep up on stuff that goes on up there. From what I know and have experienced Chapters at UF who are not at total can and usually do COB/COR. When I was there that usually meant around 4 Chapters. Each Chapter usually does COB/COR in their own way. Once Chapters find out if they got quota and whether they are at total they will usually start calling women they liked during Recruitment who withdrew. You may also want to contact the PHC office in the Union tomorrow and see if they know who will be doing COB/COR.
Hope this helps!
***Disclaimer- I graduated from UF 4 years ago and my information may not be 100% up to date or 100% accurate.***
Good Luck with everything!!
