But the audience wasn't totally feeling Tammy. I think she should be feeling very lucky, and very nervous right now....

Pleaseohpleaseohplease let Ant, and Jay be the next ones in line.

I wasn't impressed by her because it was the same thing we'd all heard before, but I guess it was new for the audience. I admit, I laughed the first time I heard it.

Side note: did the woman whose husband also auditioned make it through? The one with the twins? I was thinking she might be the other woman in the house but I'm not sure.

LeslieAGD 07-01-2004 02:18 PM

I was very surprised to see Todd go instead of Tammy. I honestly think Todd would have been one of the funniest comics to watch on a sitcom (if they really do one this time). Again, while Tammy's material was funny the first time we heard it, it isn't funny anymore. That's what's furstrating about the voting system!

Jess, Keri Marie (wife of comic Tom Cotter) didn't make it to the finals.

I wasn't that surprised to see Todd go. He really had a chaotic set. There were some jokes in there that were just SO funny, they were funnier than most of Tammy's stuff, but on the other hand, he didn't string them together-- he just kind of jumbled them together and tossed them out. I really noticed how disjointed the last half of his act was. I think Tammy's set was tighter and more consistent overall.

Plus Todd had some serious sweat stains at the end, which made me just go, ewww.

Jess, the other woman still in the house is Kathleen Madigan, who did some slightly political jokes in the top 40 and top 20 sets. She's got shorter and redder hair. The chick who left last week (who I thought should have been left out instead of [wasn't it Kerri Louise?] Tom's wife), had longer and relatively lighter hair.

LeslieAGD 07-06-2004 10:07 PM

Yay Gary! :D

DeeGeePrincess 07-07-2004 02:49 AM

ok i just started watching mid season but Im sad Ant got booted tonight.

Gary definitely made it cuz of his looks..i didnt think he was funnier tonight! oh well.

jess_pom 07-07-2004 09:02 AM

We were watching last night and KNEW Gary would be leaving... when he didn't we were all shocked! (but not upset) Ant's set was funnier but I think he lost because of the Bush comment--what do you think?

And, who do you think the mastermind is? Tammy???

My dad thinks it's Tammy...I think it's Alonzo Bodden.
He's always quietly watching everyone and doesn't get into the middle of the roommate fights.

I'm Glad Ant lost. His combination of Religion and Politics in his jokes was his downfall. that's my observation.

LeslieAGD 07-07-2004 10:50 AM

Ant was just being smug and obnoxious, that's why I'm glad that he's gone.

maggieaxid 07-07-2004 11:45 AM

So glad Ant is gone!
I think he is funny, but one can do only so many "I'm Gay" jokes and then it gets old. Your Gay, we get it. lets move on!
But I did enjoy his whole airline crash bit.
And I don't think Gary is bad to look at. Glad he is around for at least another round.

kateshort 07-07-2004 11:58 AM

I think the mastermind is Tammy and not Alonzo due to two things. First, she was able to convince Ant to vote for Gary, thus forcing the matchup. Second, didn't Alonzo vote for Ant this time around? I don't think he'd do that if he was in the alliance. Or I could just totally be misremembering.

I liked that Ant did stuff that we hadn't seen before as part of his head-to-head. However, I think there was too much not-quite-funny-enough buildup in the airplane crash without a funny-enough conclusion and too much language. Gary's set seemed a little funnier, but both seemed to have ssslllllooooowwww timing.

Remember also that we don't see the performers' entire sets-- stuff is always cut out of their routines.

Didja also see the note at the end that the Friar's membership was decided solely on the votes of the celebrity judges? I totally thought Alonzo deserved to win that one-- totally classy and low-key roasting, well done.

I'm glad that Jay got the photo session from Ant, and that he got immunity, because they're really picking on him lately. Subtly, but not in the nicest way.

ztabchbum 07-07-2004 12:18 PM

I liked Ant. I thought his airplane crash bit was hysterical! Gary was ok last night, from what I saw. I wish they would have showed everyone's reactions after Gary came back to the house.

Totally agree w/you. On the other hand-how do you like Tammy telling Ant he had to vote for Gary & then not doing it herself? Hmmm.

My prediction for final five, I can only think of the top 3:

John Heffron (my favorite to win)
Alonzo Bodden
Corey (although he gets on my nerves)

Then, it's a toss up b/t Tammy, Kathleen & Gary to round it out (probably Gary & Tammy)... Jay London should not make it, but then, I don't think he should be in the house in the first place.

Final note--Gary definitely won the other night b/c he's cute...after his set, DH & I just knew he was going home, but then Ant truly sucked it up (yes, I know the audience seemed to laugh more at him...but I can't stand his brand of humor). I, for one, am glad he's gone.

Alonzo is in the alliance. He's always there during their group meeting.

I don't think Tammy "convinced" Ant as much as she said, "look, you're going to look like a scared wuss if you don't vote for Gary."

dzandiloo 07-14-2004 10:36 AM

Well, even though I did not find Jay London particularly funny, it was very sad to see him go--and without the majority of the house wanting him gone.

BTW-has anyone else seen/read Jay Mohr's book "Gasping for Airtime," about his 2 years on SNL? It's really a good read for anyone who is a fan of SNL or Jay (I hardly remembered he was on the show...). His standup this week was pretty good.

madmax 07-14-2004 12:15 PM

I hope Tammy is the next to go. I think she sucks as a comic anyway. I have heard her use the same Italian/mob sterotype jokes about 3 times. She doesn't have any original material. I think Alonzo is the best comic followed by John, Cory, and then Gary.

I saw Jay Mohr on "Good Day Live" promoting his book. Sounds interesting.

I agree with you about her. I may have thought she was funny the first time, but the same jokes the third time around just aren't funny.

That's why she'll never win even if she makes it to the final five. Someone like John or Gary, who has done a head-to-head with fresh material, has a better chance.

Maybe, but she did win the elimination vs Todd Glass. If there is a new audience for each elimination then the audience doesn't know the comic is using stale material. I think the comics should be required to use fresh material for every set.

LeslieAGD 07-15-2004 06:53 PM

Max, I meant she'll never win in the finals (if she gets there) because America votes, and people get sick of seeing the same material. You are right about the head-to-head audiences. I also wish the comics were required to perform new, or at least updated, material.

Gary uses the tall joke just as much as Tammy uses the mob joke.

LeslieAGD 07-15-2004 07:58 PM

Gary has used the tall joke twice and he changed it up the second time.
Tammy has used the mob joke at least three time (four if you count the comic clips).

kateshort 07-16-2004 04:41 PM

I was under the impression that they could not reuse material during the head-to-head portion of the contest, but could use material from the general call / top 40 / top 20 bits *once* in the head-to-heads.

So Corey could use his "two 6-year-olds that ain't twins" joke all he wants in the Aspen "prize" session, and in the laundromat, etc., until the first time he uses it in a head-to-head, and then he can't use it again in a head-to-head.

LeslieAGD 07-20-2004 10:22 PM

I was really disappointed and a little ticked off at tonight's episode. Not only did I hate that the eliminated comics came back and controlled the vote, but the whole show felt totally rigged.

At the end, I was happy that Kathleen, John, and Gary made it to the finals, though.

maggieaxid 07-21-2004 08:46 AM

I really didn't think it was cool to have all the cast offs in the house again. they brought back a lot of animosity.
I was surprised that the comics didn't have better pitches for the tv shows.

the people who watched the videos of the comics making their T.V. Pitches were a little tougher than expected.

kateshort 07-22-2004 09:28 AM

The only thing that surprised me was *how bad* Corey was. Only one minute into his set, I told my husband "Unless the other two totally screw up, Corey's going tonight." Laughing at his own jokes, long pauses before switching topics, just bad.

And I *like* Corey.

Very glad to see Alonzo wrap it up, though.

Corey gave it a good run. Alonzo did well. now the real fun starts.

I know, I felt like I was watching a train wreck. He certainly crazhed and burned.

LeslieAGD 07-30-2004 10:25 AM

Wow, the wild card round was REALLY bad.
I though the majority of the material from ALL five comics was pretty bad.
Congrats to Jay London, though.

I'm looking forward to next week.

heard about Jay winning last night. big surprise there. now, it's the finale. should be interesting.

ztabchbum 07-30-2004 12:56 PM

I only saw little bits a pieces of the wild card show and from what I saw Jay should NOT have won - AT ALL!

I thought both Ant and Todd Glass had great sets and am very dissapointed that Todd did not win.

I really don't like even looking at Jay London and don't truly enjoy his sets - there are better comics out there than Jay by far.

godfrey n. glad 07-30-2004 01:12 PM

It's so bizarre that Jay London won! Apparently, people really like him personally, and he does seem to have low self-esteem, this is nothing personal against the guy, but his set is always the same and never funny. I get sick of the, "TTHHHANK YOU, TTHHHANK YOU." then a one-liner, then "It's almost over ma'am, don't worry" then a one-liner, then "0-for-1" then a one liner...so boring.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels this way!

I also felt that Ant and Todd's sets were much more entertaining than Jay's....I was surprised to see Ant be reeliminated third, and then when it was down to Jay and Todd, I was thinking to myself "I'm going to be SO MAD if Jay wins the wild card".

ztabchbum 07-30-2004 04:14 PM

I agree with the two of you 100000000%. Jay's set SUCKS! The one liners are so boring and not even slightly funny. I think he just gets the pity vote - that's the only thing I can think of.

LeslieAGD 08-03-2004 10:07 PM

First round of the finals were on tonight. I thought Alonzo had the one of the best sets, followed by John and Kathleen.

kateshort 08-04-2004 01:46 PM

OMG, Alonzo had my husband and I almost in tears of laughter during the first thirty seconds. He thought the first two minutes were Alonzo's best ever, but that the second half was merely good. John should also move through. I laughed pretty consistently on that.

I didn't see all of Gary's routine, but it didn't blow me away. And Tammy's was kind of mean. I didn't think Kathleen did that well. I have this thing against people who laugh at their own jokes.

The crowd was loving Jay London tonight. I thought he did pretty well, too. Based on that, and his showing in the wild card round, I'm thinking it'd be Alonzo, John, and maybe Jay as the final three.

I miss it. :( I hoping either Alonzo or Tammy win.

LeslieAGD 08-05-2004 10:07 PM

I am pretty happy with the top 3. I am bummed that Kathleen didn't make it, though. Go John!
