New York City for the most part is full of insenative people for one reason only, or is it many!
High cost of living, trying to PAK A CAR, owning one and getting parking spaces, shity Taxi Drivers whom cannot speak English and want to give you a tour of the town before they get you from JFK to your Hotel, Uninformed Police Officers who cannot get out of their own shadows, and Poloticians who hold them selfs above the rest of The World and State. Now, blame this on the GOD DAMN Tourists who pump $$$$$$$ into that City! If it is so great, they why do people ride the tain 1-3 hours to get there for work and so do the same thing getting home! It aint all friends at the coffe house. Last time I was there, not a soul could tell me how to get to 7 th and 7 Ave. COPS, Citizens, or Cab Drivers! Land of the lost, Zombies one and all!:( Enjoy Kansas City!:) If and when you come! Let me know, We Hicks Have a LOT To See!:D |

Yankee's fans, NYC better then thou attitudes, Long Island accents (though this is far more prevalent in Long Island), preschools that cost more then my college education, people who are actually from NJ and try to pretend like they are from the city, Yankee's fans, $50 cover charges for clubs and $15 well drinks, Paris Hilton, the city is dirty...oh yeah....and Yankee's fans.

I hate things about NYC when I'm here but as soon as I go anywhere else I can't wait to come back!
I hate the "Battery Ladies" selling in the subway. And the kids selling candy for $1 "I ain't selling for no basketball team or school trip. I'm just trying to make a lil money and stay off the streats" Well stay off my subway freakshows! I know they're trying to make a living but the subways are already crowded. And plus the candy is stale and the batteries die after a week! I hate subway changes on the weekend..... |
Amen! That used to piss me off when I lived in DC!
But about NYC...too friggin expensive! And they say the Bay Area in Cali is crazy with rent prices! Quote:

Let's see:
There's the traffic, the crazy cab drivers and the bike messengers and the double-parked cars - hence why I refuse to drive in Manhattan. Everything is so expensive. There's the crime. This seems to be getting handled a bit, though. There are the crowds, especially the people who don't know how to walk down the sidewalk (there are rules!). Ah, how I miss the city... :( |

I didn't like how abrupt everyone was with their time. When you get in a line, it's because there's a wait. It's not like I singled you out. "You'll rue the day you got behind me in line! mwa ha." Impatience is ubiquitous, but not everywhere does someone berate me, with cuss words, over the time it takes to retrieve change from my pocket. You don't have the spare 10 seconds? If your schedule is THAT tight, you need to make an adjustment. and that skank from Fire Island. no, i don't wanna buy you a drink, but thanks for asking if i did. for the price of your well drinks, i could support a 3rd world child...maybe send him to college, where he'll start a FarmHouse chapter at the University of Somalia-Mogadishu. Go Cubbies! |

1. Bad traffic
2. The subway system 3. Everything's so $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 4. The Chinese food isn't as good as Toronto's Chinese food (we have 5 Chinatowns including the ones in the suburbs) 5. Everythings so fast-paced |

Incidentally, you'd be wrong about your last statement. |

I'm not crazy about Chinese food anyways (have to really be in the mood for it) so it is one of those things that would be hard for me to rate. However, New York definately has the best Italian food, Pizza and Bagels hands down. I was dying in California last summer with those hockey pucks they call bagels. Lenders are even better then them.

In how many chinese restaurants in NYC have you dined? Be honest. And how can "authentic" ethnic cuisine get dated in 20 years? That makes absolutely no sense at all. |

But this thread is about New York, not Hong Kong. If you want world-class Chinese in NYC, try Shun Lee. Excellent food, and convenient to Lincoln Center to boot. Can Toronto top that? ;) Oh... this thread was supposed to be about what you hate about NYC... oops, wrong thread :) |
Quote:
ETA: Toronto's Chinese population is approximately 350,000 or about 1/10 of the total population. Also LA and San Francisco Chinese food is probably closer to what we get here. Don't forget that there is a larger population out there, percentage-wise, anyway. |
There's Chinese food between chow mein, chop suey, sesame chicken, and pepper steak? :p
|
Quote:
Chop suey, like the ubiquitous fortune cookies and egg foo young, are actually an American invention and not native to China. Ditto with the California roll - strictly an American adaptation of roll sushi. |

And don't judge non-Cantonese by a Cantonese standard. There is a lot more to China than Hong Kong. Which brings me to another thing that I hate about New York. People who know nothing about the city, but think that they can write their own Zagat's. |

You know, Russ, my dad DOES live there, and no, he doesn't like the Chinese restaurants there as much as he does here. Of course, he enjoys the REAL REAL thing much, much more :)

I see you're digging yourself into a hole here. Quit while you're ahead, okay? This has nothing to do with my love or hatred for NYC. This has to do with your inconsistency. |

Like Kenny says, "...know when fold 'em...know when to walk away." Just fold...and walk away. |
He does because the head office is there and that's where he spends most of his work time. But because he travels, he could also be seen as being there "very, very frequently".
ETA: Anyway, it is just my opinion and my dad's opinion that NYC Chinese food (or rather, Shanghainese and Cantonese food) isn't as great. Maybe the Taiwanese stuff's better, since there is a larger population there than in Tdot. |
What do I hate about NYC? That it's so far away!
|
The Yankees, P. Diddy, the way New Yorkers talk, TRL, Those damn cliche I Love NY shirts...
