1991 Buick Regal - A hand-me-down from my father. He bought himself a Beamer and my mother a Lexus; I got stuck with the Regal. :( It definitely was not a sexy car but it got me from Point A to Point B. Plus, I always got stuck driving when my friends and me would hang out since the car fit 6 people and most of my friends had tiny sports cars. The car was fondly named "The Tank".
1999 Ford Escort ZX2 - My current car. I got this as a high school graduation present from the parents (I paid half and they paid the other half). It's been pretty good to me so far although the air conditioning and tape deck have gone out twice. My sister got stuck with "The Tank" after I got the ZX2. During my Sophomore year in college, my sister called me up one day to tell me she had the best news ever. "The Tank" died. The transmission went out and it would cost over $4,000 to fix it. The car was only worth $2,000. She was cheering in the driveway when AAA came to tow it away. She says it was one of the best days of her life. My parents got her a used 1999 Honda Civic. |
1983 Honda Prelude--This was my dad's car that he gave me my Sr. year in College in 1988. I loved that car! I had to give it back when I graduated though! My parents were big on that personal responsibility stuff
1988 Honda Civic--I bought this car on my one and was so proud of it. It drove me to Minnesota for my first job and drove me back to Georgia when I came to my senses. I had this car for over 10 years. Right before I got married the engine went out (I think it had about 150,000 miles at the time. We didn't want the expense of a car note, so we bought a used engine for about $1500, and drove it for 2 more year and about 40,000 more miles. 1996 Toyota Camry--Current car. We bought this car in February 1998, and although the dealer lied and said that it had not been a rental car, I haven't had any major problems with it. I currently have about 170,000 miles on it. It is in need of some major work right now, and I am seriously debating trading it in. Hubby and I vowed to buy next car with cash, and we are still a ways from doing that, though. |
1988 Chevy Beretta 5-speed. This car had been through my middle sister, then my older sister, then me. It was my car from ages 14-15.5 (I got my school permit when I started high school). I ran it out of oil the summer after my freshman year :o it was then followed by . . .
1982 Buick Century This used to be my grandma's car but I got it after she couldn't drive anymore. It was cool in its own weird granny way. We once piled 9 people in it (including one in the trunk) and went gravel jamming. No, there is nothing better than that to do in my hometown. That was replaced by . . . 1996 Pontiac Grand Am Got it my junior year of high school and it lasted me until the begining of my senior year of college. I loved this car. We had some good times together. And now I drive . . . 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix which I've had for almost 4 years. She's done me pretty good save a few things here and there. I'll probably have her for another year or so before we decide to get something bigger for the future kidlets. |
I've always had old cars for the most part. I had a brand new Mitsubishi Mirage in undergrad for a few weeks but totaled it. I recently inherited my grandfather's mini-van after he passed away this fall. I am embarassed to admit it to people, but honestly, living in NYC, who wants a brand new car? And it's big so people move out of my way, I can transport all my "stuff" easily and if any lovely Deephers are up for the beach or a road trip I can fit them all in there. I am thinking of getting a new car in the next year or so but then I think of the insurance and car payments and it doesn't seem worth it. So for now I will continue to be a "soccer mom".
|
I had a 1992 Mazda Protege DX handed down from my dad when I got my permit. I got it with well over 100,000 miles on it and learned to drive (and drive stick!) on it. We replaced the clutch at around 150,000 and I drove it for two years. She was most often referred to as Mufsy or little red car.
When I graduated high school, I bought myself a 1999 Mazda Protege LX, still red, still a 5-speed. I'm going to have this car forever! I call him McMada but most of my friends call him little red car number 2. |
My first car was a 1995 Geo Prizm- GREEN! We called it Gumby. I got it in 2000, when I was 20. Mom and pops didn't believe in buying their kids cars so I had to get my own.
http://cars0.ipixmedia.com/abc/cars/...4830ca/i-1.JPG I drive a 2002 Mazda Miata MX5 now. I love this car... it is me.... Not too mention I got it for $5,000 under book! http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/imag...erior03_lg.jpg |
1984 Ford Tempo - known as LRT - Little Red Tempo. It was grandma's, she gave it to me when I turned 16 (it was Michigan, everyone has a car not just the spoiled kids) Worked great for years. When I got my next car I gave it to my cousin(1996). He continued to drive it for about 6 more years.
1992 Ford Escort GT - bought this used myself before my senior year in college. Loved it. Only got rid of it because dad called me up one morning asking if I wanted a brand new Cougar - I did! 2000/1? Mercury Cougar - They made a bunch of these 4 cylinder automatics. Then they realized with the new sporty look, no one would buy them - too slow. So they offered them to all the executives at Ford as an additional "company lease" car. I loved it and took it with me to NYC when I moved here. I turned it in at the end of the lease and was carless for a while. 2004 Volvo S40 - My current car - though it's really my finace's, I just drive it The lease is up soon and we are looking into the new hybrid Ford Escapes. Something like 40 mpg!!! |
Ok, I turned 16 in 1995...that should help everyone with the dates.
1992 VW Cabriolete Convertable - it was my first car. I got it in the summer of 1995 right before my 16th birthday and drove it until 2000. It was a great first car, but I ended up having problems with it and it was in the garage more than I was driving it so I had to say Good-by to Charlie. 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4WD - got this after my VW. Thanks Dad! :) I kept it from 2000-2002 when I got a new job and wanted a car with a warrenty since JJ had almost 70K miles - which is the point that Jeeps need to be overhauled. 1998 Acura 3.0 CL - I LOVE THIS CAR! I don't have it any more because I lost my job and couldn't afford to make the payments. So, I sold it to my mom (she paid it off and got a hell of a deal!). 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD- I got this car in the spring of 2003. I love it! Bertha is my baby and I plan to keep her for a VERY long time.   We'll see just how long I keep the Jeep. I do love it, but as you can tell I like to change things up pretty often. :) |
My first car:
1989 Ford Tempo...that piece of sh!t car caught on fire out of the blue. My next car: 1985 Plymouth Reliant "K" car. The "K" stands for killer because this grandpa-mobile's underside began to rust out. The engine almost fell out after I drove over a large bump in the road! After that: 1999 Honda Civic...its a perfect car and I LOVE it! I hate to sound unpatriotic, but I may NEVER buy an American car again. This car is now 5 years old and it runs like it just came out of the factory. It's parked at home an hour away in my parent's garage because now... ...currently: Chicago Transit Authority HEY! Have you seen the price of gas in Chicago!? :D |
My first car was a 1982 Mazda GLC. This was a total junker but it got me to and from school for years. When I was about to graduate from college my parents decided it was time to buy me a car that was reliable.
I then got a 1992 Honda Accord. I loved this car but it had some issues with repairs. It came from Mississippi and I am sure it was involved in some flood. About 3 years ago the oil pan gasket went out and cost me about $1300 to replace everything in the engine that it damaged. Two weeks later the A/C died. I decided I was done with it. My husband then bought me a 1992 Subaru Legacy. Nice car in the snow but not my favorite everday so we finally broke down and bought a 1995 Toyota Camry. I hate car payments so I refused to buy something that I couldn't pay for out of pocket. |
1984 Fiero
1994 Cavalier 1999 Silverado 2000 Monte Carlo 2001 Trans Am 2001 Sunfire 2002 Z06 Corvette 2003 Z06 Corvette 2003 Tracker 2004 Denali |
1986 Dodge Caravan - first car I ever drove. It was the family van so it wasn't really mine...but once I got my license I was the one who drove it the most. Of course, I ended up driving half the neighborhood to school every day. *heh*
1988 Acura Integra - hand-me-down from my mom. Drove it for several years. 1997 Saturn SC1 - First car I ever bought. Still driving it. |
I've only had 2 cars...
'88(?) Nissan Pulsar - my Barbie car. It was gray with a pink stripe just like the barbie car I had when I was little. My parents bought it for me when I got my license (so, 1995). It lasted through high school up to about a week after I got to college. '95 Olds Achieva - my first car I bought on my own in 1997 (so 2 years old) with 100,000 miles on it :) It's still going strong, but I'm not sure for how much longer! Mr. Ginger has a 2003 Toyota Corolla that he bought new, and will probably become my car when the Achieva dies. After that, depending on when that happens, we'll either buy a new Corolla (we really like his car), or, a BMW Z4. Slightly different, hey? :) |
1986 Chevy Blazer Tahoe Edition.. my first car.
1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cierra S - got this when my Blazer died 2001 BMW 325i - I had this for a summer from my dad. He eventually took it back because he decided he did like it after-all :( now.. I have a 1998 Buick Skylark (*gag* I dislike it, but it is a car.) I need to get our of the Grammy Car lines.. :p |
Started off with a 1992 Ford Taurus, which was 5 years old when I got it
The air conditioning died on the Taurus so I drove a 1989 Buick LeSabre for a few months last summer And then I got my 2003 Honda Civic and I love it! :) |
learned how to drive on a 1994 olds bravada (my moms truck)... the greatest automobile ive ever driven... until its untimely death in 2001 when my cousin totalled it, sliding it 40 ft down a road... and i wasnt even there for it :(
then cont. to drive my moms new car, a 2000 olds intrigue, which is the biggest hugest boat car EVER for a fresh driver.. drove that til i moved here to vegas in 2003, ultimately buying the spawn of satan - a 2002 Saturn SC1. no options but a CD player.. worst was no automatic windows - you NEED auto windows in the desert people... and no power locks - always forgot to lock my car, or spent several minutes trying to find the non existant clicker on my keychain...... drove the "satty" until nov of 2003, when i drove it up a 7ft median... (so i didnt see the road shift, in pure daylight WHOOPS!) i had to be the most excited person when that happend.... and finally, the new love of my life - my 2001 VW Jetta. its navy blue with a nice sparkley shine to it, and it has the greatest soundsystem, a moonroof, power EVERYTHING and of course the lights inside are just too cool :) and i just bought her in April, and she only had 26,000 miles on it .... AWESOME :) i love her :D |
I was blessed with an excellent memory (which I destroyed in HS and college) and my Dad once promised me a car when I got my DL. So, when I was 16 I got:
1980 Honda Accord - drove it everywhere - and on the off-chance that I went to class, I'd lend it to friends. It had this inexplicable tendancy to DIE while making turns. Yet, I think its official demise was "Death by Crash"... 1980 Renault Alliance - a real P.O.S. I totalled this one in an alcoholic blackout. (No lectures please! I no longer drink.) 1978 Mercury Zephyr - inherited this one from grandpa. don't think it went over 70MPH. Eventually it stopped going in Reverse. 1992 Jetta GL - friend of mom's wanted out of his lease early so I assumed it. And, my love affair with Jetta's began! When the lease expired, i leased a... 1996 Jetta GL - the love affair continued, the lease expired and I leased a... 2000 Jetta GLS - my FIRST stick shift!! (I was 30 years old - figgured it was 'bout time!) Still wish I had bought the car at lease-end. My now-ex wanted a Jeep so I inherited a 1998 BMW 528i - what's not to like about it? a) the speeding tickets that I collect b/c I can do 90 in 3rd and it just purrrrrrs along! b) the maintenance costs an arm and a leg! and now that we're divorced, I'll be going back to my JETTAS!! |
For my quinceanera, sweet 16, and high school grad, I got my first ever (and only car) on my 16th birthday - a 2000 Chevy Blazer ZR2. It's got the tighter suspensions, the skid plate, the wider stance, and it's 4WD so it's great fun for offroad. It also has a 6-disc changer and a Bose system. It's my baby ( :) )and it will be 5yrs old this October. That car has seen me through good, bad, and indifferent. I may have to throw it its own little party in October when I turn 21.

Heyyyy, me too!!! 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE |
1988 VW Jetta - Got it in July 1994 - Only had it 6-7 months. Had lots of mechanical/electrical problems. Found out it had been flooded and it was a totaled out title sold illegaly to us. Got the money back plus what my parents spent in repairs.
1995 Chevrolet Cavalier - Got it in February 1995 - Still driving it with 143,000 miles on it. I need a new car!!!!!!!! |
i'll admit it...back in the day i drove my grandmother's studebaker.
|
1975 Dodge Dart: smallest 8-cylinder car ever made... Detroit's joke of the mid 70s (when gas was CHEAP). Got about 10 mpg took me to Daytona for spring break and to clinical sites while I was in college.
1982 Chevy Chevette: all I could afford as a new college grad but working nights at an inner-city hospital needed something that was not stylish and would start. No A/C. AM radio -- really, really basic transportation 1985 Chevy Cavalier: Moved up a little... now I had A/C and an FM radio (WOO HOO!!) but by the time I got to grad school 1990, the heater died (ever tried driving in Michigan in January with no heat??? I had to scrape the inside of the windshield!) 1993 Saturn SL-2: Working heater/ AC and am/fm/ cassette. Loved it! That is until I knocked the mirror off for the 3rd time so it wouldn't pass inspection in NC 2000 Saturn LS-1: little bigger, now I have a cd player too-- made the 12 hour drives home easier. 2003 Saturn L200: OK, so I like Saturns... Lots more bells and whistles (6 cd changer, automatic climate control, automatic lights) how I could get this for less than my payments on the 2000 car I don't understand but hey, I'm a nurse, not a car salesman. |
I also turned 16 in 1995. I drove a powder blue 1987 Mustang LX that used to be my brother's. It had over 200,000 miles on it! I think when I graduated it had 213,000 something. It was a stick shift - which I loved! I miss having a stick. It had a sunroof, but no a/c. Which was definitely hot in FL! But I suffered through it.
Went to college in NC, but the 'rents didn't think the car would make it. So I sold it to a friend and had no car freshman year. Complained so much to my parents after that first year that they let me take the 1991 Mercury Sable station wagon. Ugh! I hated driving that thing. We called it the shaggin wagon and the puddle jumper. Everyone knew me by my car. Well, the shaggin' wagon died, so my last year I shared my fiance's 1998 Eagle Talon. It was much better than the wagon! I loved driving that thing. Graduated from college w/ no car. Parents felt bad, so they sold me their 1999 Ford Contour, which is what I currently drive. Hubby now drives my parents' old 1998 Explorer so they could get a brand new one. I've never owned a new car, but I think that when I do, my first car will be a convertible, and I'd like to go back to the straight drive. |
I've owned more cars than I can remember. Let me hit my favorites:
First Car -- 1958 Austin Healey Sprite (bug eye) High school wheels. Floor boards were rotting away, but the young women loved it. HS school "steady" said it would be impossible to have sex in. She was wrong -- but it took creativity. College Car -- 1958 Triumph TR-3A Roadster with wire wheels. Damned car was bulletproof. Drove it until I couldn't afford to put new brakes on it. Future Mrs. DA loved it. So did some other young women. Only car to break down to the point I couldn't get it home on the way home from a sports car race -- 1960 Chevy Corvair Monza (OK, my dad found it for me because he hated sports cars) What a piece of junk. First Car after marriage -- 1970 Capri -- one of the first imported by Lincoln Mercuty Then -- 1973 Capri V-6 -- great little Anglo/German screamer. Along the way -- Two MGB Roadsters. Loved those cars. Until Recently -- 1991 Miata Roadster -- High Tech MG type. Great car. |
1999- 97 Ford F150 XL.
2003- 1992 Cadillac Seville. |
