Wow, after reading the threads here I'm extremely thankful for my position, my building, and my district. I teach in Fairfax County, VA, and I absolutely LOVE teaching. I've been teaching since 99. I've taught high school business for 7 years (in the middle of my 7th now), and I did 3 years in a 4th grade classroom.....had a brief moment of insanity (lol). I love education. I'm preparing to start work on a Ph.D in Education.

It's a job that you HAVE to have a love for. There is no middle ground. Looking at the growth in my kids from year to year excites me. Knowing that I'm making a difference, even on the hard days, encourages me.

All things considered, who wouldn't love teaching in Fairfax County?

I'll be teaching again this semester. I taught intro to trans last semester, but I'll be teaching a mini trans class this semester. It's only part time though. I work full time at my regular job.

The three years that I did in a 4th grade classroom I did in NE. Trust, I know the joys of teaching in DCPS.

And teaching an elective.

Gotta love it!!! I've taught core, but with a BS in Computer Information Systems BIT was a perfect fit, and required no extra classes after my Masters. I simply love what I do.

I'm currently looking at Ph.D programs for Education and I'm considering Teacher Leadership as my concentration. It's amazing the number of teachers that I come in contact with who don't enjoy the material that they're presenting. If you don't enjoy it....why would your students?
