I did. And nothing was done. I walked out several classes because I was there to learn not listening to NDP propaganda.

But I could think for myself. I didn't need my parents to tell me that I didn't have to vote NDP or take this crap. I thought for myself.

You did what? And by the way this isn't free therapy for you so I don't really care too much to discuss your personal experience.

If you grow up in a major metro area, you're bound to see it. You see news footage of it on TV. You do have TVs where you're from, right?

Ad hominem attacks are fun!

After 39 years of living and working in the Detroit area (the murder capital of the US for many of those years), I have to say, I've never seen someone stabbed, raped, or murdered, either in person or on the news. The worst thing I ever saw was when they showed pictures of people jumping from the WTC on 9/11. After I saw a couple those pics on TV, I made a point to avoid all 9/11 coverage because I couldn't handle that. I never had the TV on during that period while my children were home because I didn't want them seeing it. We discussed the atrocities of the situation and a little girl on my daughter's soccer team lost her Uncle on Flight 93 so there was some direct connection, but I didn't think it wise that they see this on TV.

To witness a beheading in video form is just too much for some kids and a parent should be able to determine what is or is not appropriate for their kids to see.

We had to have permission slips for sex ed classes the whole time I was growing up.

The pictures of the Holocaust we were shown in grade school were still, black and white pictures of the emaciated people who were rescued. A bit different than a live video with sound and color of someone being brutally murdered. I think you can convey the horrific nature of these acts without actually showing them.

I don't therapy from you. If you were a therapist you'd lose a lot of patients.

I'm just saying that everyone has an agenda of some kind, even you. So don't tell people to stop because they won't.

Even people on this board have a political agenda.

Vot Bush, Vote Kerry. You'll see it in people signatures. But since we're all supposed to be capable of making our own decisions, then it shouldn't really matter. Or are you one of those mindless robots I was speaking about?

Considering I have lived in Atlanta, Memphis, Houston, and now Nashville, I do believe I've lived around metropolitan areas. No, it's not New York City or Detroit, but it's not some small country town either. Sure, there are stabbings in the ghetto areas, but you're not going to walk downa major street of these cities and see stabbings and you're sure as hell not going to see an actual stabbing on the news. You'll hear about it all day long, but they are not going to tape a stabbing a show it.
Maybe I should go stand around and wait for a stabbing or rape to occur on a streetcorner so I won't be so sheltered.

Maybe some of you grew up in way too sheltered areas, but I've seen people get stabbed in the streets, and I watched the attempted rape of one of my friends on a UW campus.
Maybe more areas would seem sheltered if people didnt stand and watch stabbings and rapes?

We're not talking about a stabbing, or a rape, or even a drive-by shooting. We're not discussing a birth, or a sex ed class.

The only thing the video of Nick Berg is the least bit similiar to is a Holocaust film - which are usually (if not always) in black and white.

When I was in college, I saw a beheading and its aftermath (on video). I can only hope that I never see such a thing again. This is not the clean fall of a guillitine blade, this is a person - a fellow human - whose head is sawed off while he screams.

I agree with this part!

This wasn't something the French did when King Louis or whatever wanted someone killed. This was a guy taking a knife and cutting his throat side to side until it came off. My friend said you can hear him gargle(sp?) and gasp for air.

That in my opinion is nothing like watching a birth, or anything sex ed could show you.

And while yes, getting stabbed and shot has to suck. I honestly believe this is MUCH MUCH WORSE!
