Couldn't agree more. Different kids are going to react and behave differently to different dicipline methods. You have to know your kid.

Which is why a lot of parents use things like belts, brushes etc. It gives you a physical reminder (a whelt or bruise) of why you got spanked in the first place[b]

That was the last time my parents ever hit me.

When I was bad, I used to get a beating. I was hit several times in the head and I mean hard. Sometimes it was closed fist sometimes it was open hand. But I was get the head, the face, the back, the bottom, the chest. Whatever was closer to my father would get hit and that was usually the head. I was threatened to be thrown through walls, doors, windows, etc.

Do I consider myself abused. No. I was only ever hit when I was bad and that wasn't very often, but it was a beating.
But you can be damned sure that if I'm old enough and big enough if my parents ever hit me now I would defend myself.

If kids start hitting back, it's time to find another method of punishment because spanking doesn't work.

there's a difference between spanking a child and beating them. then there's the difference between spanking them for doing something minor and spanking them for throwing an ungodly fit in a store. i don't have kids, but i want a couple later on. i'll try taking away privaleges but if they continue to act bratty, then it's a hand to the back side. and it's also on the child and how they take the discipline. i hate being somewhere and seeing a kid throw a fit and screaming like a banchee and the parent doesn't do anything. i'm just like "shut the kid up already!" i don't know if it's thier parenting and how they do the " just ignore them because they're trying to get attention" ideal. the children that don't get disciplined early on lead to the disrespectful brats that are running around the streets in their teens. and as far as the child hitting back, OH HELL NO!!!! they got that spanking for a reason, and i'd be damned if that happened to me.

i know, right? i wanna kick the kid's ass my damn self.

The basic difference between spanking and child abuse is the parents' state of mind and motivation for hitting their child. If the parent is doing it out of anger or intimidation, technically that's child abuse, even if it's not particularly painful for the child. I've seen many parents out of anger, frustration and immaturity haul off and slap their kids. What does that teach the kids? If they've been slapped enough, absolutely nothing.
